I’ve never been a religious person, but she makes me want to believe. To believe that our love will cross eternal plains into a paradise where I can worship her in prayer and penance. To believe we could spend not just our life, but every single afterlife with our souls entwined.
“Because when something happens, she’s the person I want to tell. The most basic indicator of love.”
— Every Day, David Levithan
I wonder if I could lick your scent off of the pages you wrote to me,
if I could pump it into my veins,
if I could my wrists would never bleed again,
And were you to leave,
I would never breathe again,
(I would never breathe you out)
May you find the one who will heal your inner child and soul
My ears ache for the song of your voice and my stomach years to be filled with your words.
I’m laying here and all I can think is that we’re just two scared kids playing adult
We hold each other, comforting each other as we try to quieten the shared fear that we aren’t good enough to hold the other in our arms.
Abdulla Pashew, from "Union" (trans. Hemn Bakr & Alana Marie Levinson-LaBrosse), pub. Words Without Borders [ID'd]
The ocean ran across my face a thousand times before I saw the sea.
Tasting its first wave mimicked a thousand nights of concrete walls.
“You taste familiar” I whispered as salty streams poured over me.
Yet these saltwaters lacked the usual sadness I feel when the ocean storms my eyes at night.
Under the soft suns warmth my eyes run dry, my heart beating to a conch shells song.
Breath matching the lull that rocks me gently through the waters.
The embrace of this ocean feeling gentle, compared to the salty suffocation that waits for me back on land.
Each time I have to say goodbye,
I leave a piece of my heart with you,
The rest aches and screams,
Twists and pants,
Only beating a steady flow when it feels your touch again
Only allowing me to breathe when I can feel your breath again
Only freeing me to live when I have you living alongside me again
Vladimir Mayakovsky, from a letter featured in "Love in the Heart of Everything; The Correspondence between Vladimir Mayakovsky & Lili Brik, 1915-1930,"
“I hate you”
“You hate who i will never be”
- conversations with a mirror
I lie here on my supposed day of joy and weep
For what you say is yellow, I see cast in blue
A shadow of grief blocking each angle of your described sun
As I hope the lights you paint for me will one day become true
“I’m caught between trying to live my life, and trying to run from it.”
— Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being A Wallflower
