The first time Hazel Levesque purposefully summons the jewels after Nico returns her to life, they burn bright and hot against her skin. it is hard, to be the son of the big three. i think percy, jason, and nico all have this sort of longing for each other--this wish for no disconnect, this wish for understanding. their lives are too different, they tell themselves. percy doesn't think nico would want him around, and nico feels the same. jason is too busy, they say. but the longing never truly goes away--the search for love, the search for understanding. they all wonder, quietly, if maybe they all could've been friends in another life. good friends. the ones that live and die for each other.

Annabeth learning how to survive over and over and over again. Annabeth going from a scared little kid having to defend herself from monsters out on the street to a scared teenager watching everyone she loves go through unavoidable tragedy to a seventeen-year-old stuck in the pits of hell. Annabeth reinventing her narrative over and over and over again in the hopes that maybe, somehow, someday, it will all have been worth something. That maybe, eventually, it will all have made sense.

Nico finds himself beginning to fall asleep in Will's bed. It's not really a conscious decision. Will works odd hours, and Nico is often fatigued. His body finds it hard to physically exist, due to all of the physical trauma he endured. It doesn't help that shadows constantly pull at him due to all the shadow travel. But Nico is strong, and he is good at excusing himself and passing out in the Hades cabin.

But once, in the early evening, Nico falls asleep while waiting for Will to come back from a shift. He really doesn't mean to. He's never trusted anyone enough to fall asleep in their space. But the blankets smell like Will, and the Apollo cabin is otherwise empty. Nico just sort of... drifts off.

He wakes to Will gently shaking him, holding a plate of food. Nico quickly shoots up, excuses already streaming out of his mouth about how he didn't mean to, and how he's going to his cabin right now.

Will stops him with a look. "You missed dinner. Eat."

Nico spends the night in one of Will's shirts, his heart full of more warmth and love than he can remember ever having. Will Solace is a walking miracle.

The first time Percy tells Annabeth that he loves her, neither of them really expect it. They're sitting by the lake at Camp Half-Blood, and Annabeth is going on about her plans for remodeling Mount Olympus―something about architectural diagrams and building plans and statue designs. Percy really wants to listen, but something about the way the sunlight is tangling like a halo in her hair and illuminating every single freckle on her face is stealing his breath.

Finally, Annabeth asks, "What? Do I have something on my face?"

Percy means to say something like, You're beautiful. Or, maybe, I like you a whole lot.

Instead, he says, "I love you."

It's like his body knew what he was going to do before his mind, but he means it. He means it with every single fiber of his being.

My pitch for why Hazel Levesque is the most underrated child of the Big Three: - She can sense spirits and likely can communicate with them. Although she can't control them, this is very relevant to many different scenarios wherein the seven have to interact with and engage with the dead. - She lived in the Underworld for decades, which absolutely gave her a different perspective on the dead. She came back from the Underworld with the knowledge that everyone she had known and loved was dead. It takes a certain level of strength to go through all of that and not lose your mind. - Her powers with jewels are so underrated. Precious metal is everywhere. It would be so easy for her to summon gold the way Percy summons water. She could kill an enemy with a thought. - Not only is she a long-range sword fighter, she's also aided by the fastest horse in the world. When she rides aAion, she's practically unkillable. - She trained with Hecate, meaning she has more powers than what Pluto gave her. She can manipulate the mist and warp reality for anyone, whether that be a person, a demigod, or a monster.

If Hazel really wants to kill someone, they have absolutely no chance to fight back. Unlike the other Big Three kids, her weaknesses are slim to none. She's insanely powerful, and the only reason it's not super showcased is because Hazel is portrayed as a sweetheart. People often forget that she already killed Gaea once, all alone.
