      she's been awake long enough to get bored  of  being  quiet  about  it,  which  is  how  it  turns  into  this: padding  barefoot  around  her  own  kitchen,  hair  still  damp  at  the  ends  and  a  questionable  attempt  at  breakfast  halfway  across  the  counter.  admittedly, she’s  not  much  of  a  cook,  but  she’s  stubborn  enough  to  try  which  is  how  the  eggs  end  up  slightly  too  ambitious  for  the  pan  and  the  toast  a  half shade  darker  than  intended,  all  of  those  held  together  by  a  kind  of  hopeful  determination.  she’s  in  the  middle  of  debating  whether  it’s  salvageable  when  she  hears  movement  behind  her,  the  soft  tell  of  her  girlfriend  finally waking up and walking  into  the  kitchen.  it  pulls  a  grin  out  of  her  before  she  even  turns.  “  good  morning,  sleeping  hottie,  ”  she  calls,  glancing  over  her  shoulder  with  something  warm  and  a  little  smug.  she  gestures  vaguely  at  the  mess  in  front  of  her  with  the  spatula.  “  you’re  up  just  in  time  to  tell  me  if  this  looks  edible  or  if  we should pretend this never happened and order  something in instead.  ”

eyelids flickering open slowly, only to be greeted by the glare of beaming sun rays shining directly into her eyes, adeline woke up with a soft, content smile resting upon her weary features. she took a few moments to fully come to her senses before making her way out of bed and back to the world of the living.

as if she’d died and gone to heaven, the sight of meilin’s flawless face was the first thing her dark eyes laid focus on; so utterly divine even first thing in the morning… adeline was still trying to figure out how her girlfriend was even real. “good morning, baby.” she greeted, warmth emanating from her tone. “have you been up for long?”

unable to wipe the smile off her face, she peered down at the homemade breakfast crafted ever so lovingly by her sweetheart, she couldn’t help but feel chuffed at the gesture, knowing cooking wasn’t exactly her lover’s forte. even if it wasn’t edible, the writer was going to make damn sure it was.

“you know me… i’m game for anything.” she quipped, words followed by a cheeky wink before pulling the plate closer to her and grabbing the utensils that sat ever so neatly by its side. “it smells delicious, though.” at that, she briefly held up her fork to imitate a one-sided ‘cheers’ before digging in.

several generous mouthfuls later, she took a moment to finish chewing, grin beginning to form upon her features. “wow… actually—“ a pause. “—you nailed that. it’s really fucking good. is this a speciality of yours or is it more of an improvised creation? either way i might start requesting you make this for me more often.”

it is their first valentine’s season together, and although meilin was not usually sentimental about dates, she has taken extra care where adeline is concerned. the bathroom is warm and softly lit with scented candles along the counter and the rim of the tub, steam beginning to rise in gentle curls. she has already set out the thick towel adeline loves, and the expensive bath bomb sits ready on the porcelain edge, saved for the right moment. she adjusts the towels one last time before her girlfriend’s voice carries down the hall. the sound alone pulls a smile from meilin, and she dries her hands and steps out of the bathroom, already glowing with quiet anticipation. 

she means to greet her casually, but the sight of the gifts makes her stop short, eyes widening in a way that’s almost comical for someone who prides herself on being poised.  “ darling... no, you did not! ”  she exclaims as she moves closer, fingertips brushing the petals first and then she takes the bag by the handles. warmth floods her instantly as she sees the gleam of excitement on her girlfriend's face and she loops her arms around adeline's shoulders without hesitation, mouth meeting hers in a quick yet tender kiss. she peeks inside with a grin she can't hide, then looks back up at adeline, fond and a little breathless.  “ unbelievable. you really have no restraint, do you? ” she says incredulously, even though she should be used to this by now. she's been spoiled before, by adeline, especially. “ i was about to run you a bath so you could unwind, ”  she murmurs near her lips, cheeks faintly pink even as a smug little smile tugs at the corner of her mouth.  “ and now you've completely distracted me. ”

as soon as meilin came towards her, she couldn’t help the grin that tugged at her lips, taking great satisfaction in being the one to elicit such a response from the woman. she had always had a knack for romantic gestures, but with her girlfriend it seemed to triple. she was utterly bewitched by the other woman; body and soul.

“oh yes i did,” she replied playfully, unable to keep the lovesick grin off her face, her arms instinctively moving down and resting against her waist, gifts still clasped in each hand.

‘you really have no restraint, do you?’ the question, while rhetorical, provoked a mischievous hum as she bit down gently on her bottom lip. “no, i don’t, but that’s how i like it.” leaning in, she stole another kiss, completely unable to resist doing so while being in the embrace of such a goddess.

after adeline’s divorce from her husband, she’d dated frequently, the majority of the relationships weren’t anything serious, nothing more than a warm body to fill the empty side of her bed that had taunted her since the demise of her marriage.

it wasn’t until meilin that she found herself falling head over heels; something that she had only ever experienced once before, way back before marriage and babies were even a passing thought.

her eyes lit up at the mention of the bath, her smile morphing into a smirk. “you are so good at reading my mind…” she spoke softly, purposely grazing her lips against her lover’s. “care to join me?”
