Hello everyone! Welcome or welcome back to another episode of my podcast if you are watching or blog if you are reading!
I hope that the information that is provided down below allows you to feel informed about why over-stimulation might occur and how to take care of yourself and others when you see them over-stimulated!
Now we are going to dive deep into what over-stimulation really is and some symptoms!
What is over-stimulation?
According to Cambridge English dictionary, over-stimulation is the fact of being made too excited or interested in something.
Merriam-Webster dictionary, states that over-stimulated means that one is excessively stimulated. The brain, responding to higher than normal dopamine levels.
My idea of over-stimulation is when you have a large amount of things happening all at once and you become overwhelmed.
Signs of Over-Stimulation:
extreme irritability
difficulty focusing due to competing sensory input
urge to cover your ears or shield your eyes from sensory input

An example of over-stimulation could be, you have been doing homework for 6 hours straight, you are ready to be done, but you think you have to get in all done in one setting, and as you are finishing up...you pinch your finger in the drawer where your computer charger goes and your roommate is listening to music loudly in the bathroom and all you want to do is cry.
I tend to find myself in this state when I lack taking breaks throughout the day. I find that taking breaks is very helpful for your mind to feel at ease. Some ideas for taking breaks are meditation, working out or something else that brings you joy. Taking a "breather" allows you to remember that it is okay to be feeling this way, but you are in charge of whether this occurs so take action now!
Try these if you are feeling over-stimulated:
1.) Remove yourself from the situation
2.) Find a quiet and safe space
3.) Practice mindfulness through journaling and meditation
4.) Getting a good nights sleep - this will help rejuvenate your body
5.) Daily health; body movement & sunshine will help you feel motivated and ready to conquer the day!
6.) Technology; when spending hours on social media we tend to really on it for dopamine purposes rather than exploring life around us and the things we see on social media platforms makes us what to be different from our original self. This creates over-stimulation within itself because we feel we have to eat healthier or buy certain items to be cool or skinny as everyone else and this puts stress on our mental and physical well being.
