“Either join me for a drink or fuck off.”
“i beg your pardon ?? ━━━ that’s a rather impertinent way of asking.”
“Sorry. You just seem like, you know, kind of an indoor girl.”
You jump, I jump, remember? I can’t turn away without knowing you’ll be all right. That’s all that I want.
dawson, jack.
hearing her sob, jack’s entire face was taken over by CONCERN. it was only when he determined that it was simply an overwhelming emotion– confirmed by rose’s words to him. he understood. he understood because he felt the same way– it was one thing to have been brought on this island with no clear reason as to how he was still alive but to have found rose here– that was beyond anything he could ever imagine. jack probably would have been thrilled to see cal, he had been that desperate for answers. but to have rose ?? that was truly all he needed. “i would have never let that happen.” he stated almost out of habit, he had done everything in his power to make sure rose would not die that night. jack had somehow known only one of them would make it, and he wanted to make sure that rose was the one who did. attempting to soothe her, jack gently kisses the apple of her cheek, smiling into the small gesture as he pulled away. even now, with her face swollen from the crying– she was absolutely beautiful. he could honestly live with staring at her forever and now, to be able to do that was something that could have only been granted to him by some holy being. he had remembered what it was like to have nothing– to have not a single person in this world – other than fabrizio. to go from that, to having a love worth more than any gold– any prize that could ever be bestowed on him, it was too good to be true. “i believe we do.” he confirmed, one of his hands delicately twirling a strand of her red hair. “how about we head back to my place ?? we’ll get you some tea, some warm blankets and you can tell me how in the WORLD you got out of that water.”
initially, she held no intentions of becoming a blubbering mess BUT once the realization of him truly standing before her, in the flesh, had sunk in – it was INEVITABLE. it was almost too good to be true, though, she wouldn’t dare question it. losing him had been one of the hardest things she’d ever had to endure. and now ?? nothing would come between them. after her father’s passing – her whole family seemed to crumble, and up until she’d met him – she’d forgotten what genuine happiness felt like. fortunately, those feelings were quickly returning, the exact ones she’d been so DEPRIVED of after his passing. seeing as, no one could possibly make her feel the way that he had. when she’d noticed the change in his expression, the corners of her lips were quick to curve upwards, wreathing themselves into a smile – even more so when his lips connected with the porcelain skin of her cheek. she truly didn’t intend to stir any worry within him & the smile gracing her lips was to prove just that. she’d eventually pulled back from the warm embrace, only slightly, her oceanic hues scanning over his face – taking in every detail. not that it was necessary, however, because even though an immense amount of time had passed, she was still able to recall EVERY feature. after listening to his proposition, she immediately nodded her head in agreement. everything he’d offered sounded like a DREAM, with the exception of reliving that night, of course – but if he wanted to hear it, she’d be more than willing to tell it. “right. well, c’mon then. lead the way.”
April 14th, 1912 - RMS Titanic strikes an iceberg on the starboard side at 11:40 p.m. and five of her watertight compartments are breached. The ship can only stay afloat with four of her compartments flooded.
dawson, jack.
having met his fair share of people, he had never met someone who came even close to rose. she was truly her OWN woman, she was the most fiery and bravest person he had ever known– there was something so GRAVITATING about her. “oh, exactly. there would never be another woman cast in a moving picture ever again, you’d play every role. they wouldn’t stand a chance. i still don’t know how you do that, it looks beyond painful.” with rose’s statement, the feelings of joy within jack where unmeasurable. it was the second chance worth dreaming about, to be able to experience every thing rose had promised him she’d do but this time, to be with her. to be at her side through it all, which is all jack had ever wanted in the first place. “grow tired of you ??” he chuckled, rose truly must have no clue the TRUE intensity of his feelings for her. “you know, i intend to go out of this world the same way as before. – i mean, less wet. but i took my last breath knowing that i was in love with you. and seventy years from now, i’ll take my last breath and i will still be in love with you.” although he felt some surprise with her thoughts about a small wedding, he then remembered who rose was, it made more sense. he had already been well aware that the company both her and her family had once had were far from supportive or loving. “just us. you know, i think you got a good point with that. that’s all i need, just myself and my beautiful wife.” unable to hide his smirk, jack nodded his head, pulling away only for a second to MOCKINGLY bow towards her, as if he was addressing royalty. “prove my worth now ?? how may i do that, your GREATNESS ??” pulling her back towards his body, jack rested his hands on her waist, knowing that from now on the act of keeping his hands OFF her would be near impossible. “there is never going to be a day i won’t want you. i mean it, my final breath, rose. i’ll be thinking of you.” with her question, jack didn’t really know how to answer as he wasn’t too sure. “i think a few days, probably. not much longer than you.”
naturally, she’s still presently in a state of SHOCK. for the longest time ; she’d been left with visions of his body disappearing into the atlantic and now he’s h e r e. living, breathing, and holding onto her as she revels in his newfound warmth. by some force of nature, the two had been given a second chance at life – giving them an opportunity do the things they’d only DREAMED of . . and she wouldn’t DARE waste it. his statement of ‘ life being a gift ’ at dinner many, many years proving to be more true now than it ever has. she’d been listening to every word he’d said, thinking back to the many times she’d wished to be able to hear his voice just once more. her mouth fell slightly agape, with intentions of chuckling but instead, a choked sob escaped. it was as if so many different emotions had HIT her at once. even just the MERE sight of him had left her weak at the knees. though, it wasn’t out of sadness – but complete and utter elation and even with tears falling down her cheeks, the corners of her lips managed to pull themselves into a wide smile. “jack, i – i just can’t believe you’re truly here.” cue hands going to cup the sides of his face yet AGAIN. “i was meant to die – there, on that night – and oh, believe me. i truly wanted to. i just couldn’t bear the possibility of going on without you, jack.” she could remember THAT night quite vividly. the eventual ceasing of screams around them, their staggered breaths – it’d seemed like an ETERNITY before that s i n g l e boat showed up. “now you’re here . . and i’m never letting go.” through the tears, a laugh spilled from painted lips once he’d bowed. “you’ve done enough, actually.” even if she had only been teasing, what else could he do to prove his worth any more ?? he’d already given his LIFE to save hers. with her body pressed back into his, she rested her head against his shoulder. by now, the tears had come to a halt and she’s left with puffy eyes, accompanied by an awful sniffling. “and as will i but NOW, we’ve got all the time in the world, and we’ve got to make it count.” given their surroundings, it was quite clear how different the world had become since she could last recall, and she just KNEW how perplexed he must be. “i believe you’ve got quite the bit of catching up to do, wouldn’t you say ??”
dawson, jack.
he had remembered so fondly the first time he had laid eyes on ROSE, he had been left so speechless though meeting her had been even worse. to find a woman so STRONG-WILLED yet angelically beautiful was beyond anything jack could imagine. however– it was never an ‘ i need to have this woman ‘ as rose was NOT a possession. you could now OWN rose and nothing attracted jack more to her than the simple fact of that, she was FIERCE in a way he had never seen more and it was breath-taking. “clearly you were TOO good for the industry since they didn’t cast you as the big lead. they knew you’d outshine truly every other cast member and probably did not want them to be envious.” hearing her say it only brought a feeling of REALNESS to jack. that she wanted to and had taken his name. “any wedding– anything you wish, i will make it happen. as long as after that day, you will grow old with me as rose DAWSON. small wedding, large wedding– it is by your choice. i will be married to the love of my life and allowed to love her forever and that is more than enough for me.” chuckling at her statement, jack rolled his eyes, giving rose a crooked smile. “oh– of course. FORGIVE me, ma’am, no– YOUR HIGHNESS.” still unable to get enough of her, jack leaned into the kiss, his hands twisted in the curls of her red hair. remaining just within a few inches of her face as they pulled away, jack’s eyes stayed on her, taking in the beauty of this moment. “a delicate flower ?? please. you are the most magnificent woman i have ever met, your beauty, which is ENCHANTING, but it is just the surface. you hold more power in yourself than any other man or woman i have ever met. you are incredible.” feeling her arms wrap around him, jack held onto her tightly as she spoke. the words that stumbled out of him were effortless yet fill of the true meaning he wasted to capture. “i love you too, rose. i always will.”
the rather YOUTHFUL smile gracing painted lips only grew wider. jack truly was unlike ANYONE she’d ever met. unconstrained by convention ; unbothered by his limited means, living however he PLEASED. there was absolutely no way she couldn’t have been drawn to him upon their first meeting. she would’ve done anything to be like HIM. the night he’d joined ‘ her crowd ’ for dinner, she’d listened to his spiel-- which had been FAR more impacting than any other conversation she’d ever heard-- the rest of them had simply lacked substance, more often than not. it was then ; that she’d realized her invisions of freedom were undoubtedly in reach. “i SUPPOSE you’re right. i wouldn’t want to UPSTAGE the others, truly. surely, if i’d have shown them how i can stand on the very tips of my toes, no other would’ve even been considered for the part.” she couldn’t help but chuckle after her last sentence, her tone SEVERELY laced with sarcasm. since that night, marrying jack had only ever occurred to her in a DREAM and now ?? she’d been presented with the possibility of it truly happening & she couldn’t be more THRILLED. “jack, there’s nothing i want MORE than to grow old with you. we’ll be drinking cheap beer and riding horses into our nineties. i do hope you’ll never grow tired of me because we’ve got many, many years to come.” it’d been a statement she’d thought of when they were aboard the ship-- though, THIS time, she’d do everything in her power to ensure it stays true. “i believe it should be JUST the two of us. i’d only need to spend the MOST significant day of my life with the one who matters most, really.” simply, tilting her chin towards the sky, she struggled to maintain a straight face. “forgiveness ?? why, you must first prove your worth, mr. big artiste.” jack’s lightheartedness, wit, and willingness to play along would certainly always bring a smile to her face-- regardless of the situation. truly, only a FEW of the many things she loved about him. “jack, you’ve truly saved me in EVERY way possible-- and i don’t believe i’ll ever be able to thank you enough. i don’t know what i’d ever done to deserve someone as REMARKABLE as you. as long as you’ll have me, i promise-- we’ll never be parted again.” just hearing those words for the FIRST time was almost enough to make goosebumps grow on her skin. in turn, her grip on him had tightened, too. “have you been here long, jack ??”
dawson, jack.
taking one of his hands, jack gently touched one of the red curls on rose’s head, a dreamy EXPRESSION clear on his face.this was the woman beyond any of his wildest dreams, though, her outer beauty was simply EXTRA compared to the golden inner. although he had known the truth, the confirmation that she had never loved cal was relieving, he was truly the opposite and was thankful for this. rose deserved far more than cal could ever give her, money was one thing but the SUPPORT and love was far more important. “you’ll always have that. i will always be here, i’m not going anywhere.” it was a promise more than a statement, unless– it ever came to him or rose again. he’d save her over his own life over and over again. but if that were not the case, he would be by her side until his final breath was taken, years and years from now. listening to her story, the smile on his face only GREW even larger. “you did ?? you went by my name– really ?? it does have quite the ring to it. rose dawson. mrs rose dawson. i love that way it sounds. i think we should make that happen soon– don’t you ??” he had already placed their names together the very last few days they had been with each other on the titanic, and he knew– as soon as he could– he would give her a proper proposal. watching her face drop, it was clear to jack that his inner questions had been answered. it was a damper– truly. as much as it had been women and children first, the difference in classes had still been PREVALENT. rose’s uncanny ability to roll with jack’s jokes had been only of many things he had completely fallen head over heels for. she was truly so witty that he couldn’t help but fall smitten for it. “i think we’ve established– you are far more tough than me. i only hope to one day be able to chug a beer with that much confidence.” with her confession, jack gently kissed her– feeling as though it was right to. “you know– if you’d done it. i would of been in that water, i really meant that. i’d of gone in after you. i really didn’t think you would though, i had some MISCONCEPTIONS about you but you sure did put me in my place, huh ?? winning that ticket was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
promptly, the fiery-haired girl reacted to his touch, her head tilting in the direction of his hand. STILL completely enticed by the warmth radiating from him. long since THAT disastrous night, she’d been left with an awful ache in her heart. a void in her chest that only HE could fill. truly, she NEVER held such feelings for cal. their engagement was MERELY to save her mother from a life of seamstress work . . and yet, rose was often called the selfish one. while cal’s love was POSSESSIVE, jack’s was real and true. cal desired to keep her hidden from the world, while jack did nothing BUT encourage her to seek out and follow her dreams. he was everything she’d ever needed. “oh, jack. i can’t even begin to tell you how often i’ve LONGED for this moment. the many, many times i’ve dreamed of it.” though, she still wasn’t FULLY convinced that this wasn’t one of her dreams and even if it were, she NEVER wanted to wake. her lips, too, curved into a wider smile, much like his. “yes, really. for a while, actually– even made quite the name for myself, too. starred in a few silent films– though, i never got the role of a BIG lead.” while speaking, she couldn’t help but feel the slightest pang of guilt. even though, she knew he’d be HAPPY to hear that she’d lived on, accomplished things, and stayed true to his promise– she still wasn’t able to EXPERIENCE it all with him. “mrs. rose dawson. i do like that. a lot. say we’ll get married, sometime soon, but it doesn’t have to be anything too extravagant. just something simple, yet rather beautiful.” the amount of people set to attend her and cal’s wedding had been quite OVERWHELMING, and it was definitely planned against her liking. her sudden SORROW had not been only held for cora but for TRUDY, mr. andrews, fabrizio, helga, and all of the others who’d perished that night, despite having such a FULL life ahead of them . . but of course, she held the DEEPEST sorrow after she’d lost HIM, which she’d faced every day since. “you ought to never underestimate the talent of a first class girl, mr. dawson.” she simply reminded him, a low chuckle escaping her lips. when she felt his lips pressed to hers again, she easily kissed him back– knowing she’d NEVER get enough of the feeling. upon him pulling away, rose kept her face just inches from his. “i don’t believe i would’ve, either. i was just searching for a way out. a way to get from my mother, from cal, from my whole crowd . . and then, you came along. you looked at me DIFFERENTLY than anyone ever had. you see people and you SAW something in me. you didn’t look at me as if i were this delicate little flower, you knew i was capable of so many things. to which, i finally realized it, too.” now, her arms were thrown around him, as she buried her face into the crook of his neck. “i love you, jack.”
dawson, jack.
he COULDN’T get enough of her, it felt as though it was a dream. this, replacing the darkness he had felt since that FATAL night. if this had been a vision, he truly wished he’d never wake. with the comment about her mother, jack chuckled, he had not been QUITE the fan of that woman and it had angered him over the power the woman continued to use to guilt rose. “i believe we’re on an island, my assumptions place us somewhere east. not heaven– though with you here, you’re making me question how confident i am saying that.” he stood, TRANSFIXED in the change in luck he had. “think about it, rose.” he said, his eyes remaining on her face, memorizing every detail once more. “i will give you everything you want. – i mean, i don’t have much money. i’ll do all i can to provide for you, i’m better than cal. i will always be better than cal.” another name that caused anger to run through his chest, how that complete BASTARD of a man could treat rose in such a way was beyond jack’s recollection. “i’ll give you the wedding of your dreams, i promise you, i will.” no matter how long it took, jack did not take his promises lightly especially when it came to rose. with a slight step, a smile spread over jack’s face. there had always been a special sort of smile reserve for rose, one fueled by the stirring feels that caved in his heart at the very MENTION of her name. “i suppose i can lead this one– in cora’s honor, of course.” the fate of his ‘ best girl ‘ was unknown to jack, though he knew those questions would be better left for another time. “we’ll start off slow,” he gently swayed by his words, his grip on rose’s waist tight– his inner self scared that if he let go, she’d vanish. “you know, that night while watching you dance, that’s when it really hit me. damn– this girl is a horrible dancer.” he laughed, shaking his head. “no–, i thought, holy, this is it. this is HER.”
the girl reveled in his warmth. it was quite honestly one of the most pleasant things she’d ever felt – for the LONGEST time, she’d been left with the memory of his hand frozen to hers, as she lay, their bodies numb in the below-freezing atlantic . . and NOW, she’d been greeted by his golden hue and cordiality. “well, heaven or not – as long as i’m with you, i believe i’ll be fine.” completely LOST in his eyes, she continued to listen to him speak, very intently. his voice like MUSIC to her ears. the sweetest sound she’s EVER known. “jack, you don’t have to convince me of that. you’re more of a man than that insufferable bastard would EVER be. i never loved, cal – truly . . and you know, i’ve never paid much mind to the mundane things in life. i’ve got you. we’re here. you’re here. it’s the one thing that truly matters. the ONE thing i could truly want.” she concluded that maybe now wouldn’t be the right time to discuss cal’s fate . . how he’d lost all of his fortunes and offed himself. it was rather ironic, to be frank. “jack – THAT night. only ONE ship responded to the distress calls. i’d boarded and a steward had asked me of my name. i told him dawson – rose dawson. has quite a nice ring to it, doesn’t it ??” when she’d finally saw the statue of liberty that night . . like for most, it’d become a symbol of freedom and only reminded her of the promise she’d made to him. that she WOULD continue on. do whatever her heart desired . . and she did just THAT. at the mention of cora, rose couldn’t hide the sudden sadness that washed over her face. she couldn’t remember seeing the little girl aboard the carpathia with the rest of the steerage nor could she recall reading her name among a list of survivor’s that’d been published in the following days but she just DIDN’T have the heart to tell him. though, her attention almost immediately returned to the man in front of her. lips wreathing themselves back into a WARM smile as she followed his lead. “horrible ?? i do beg your pardon, mr. dawson – i don’t quite recall YOU being the one to stand on the very tips of your toes that night.” she knew he was only teasing, of course – but still, she feigned shock. “the night we were at dinner. before i’d met you, i’d felt as if i’d watched my whole life right in front of me while surrounded by an endless cycle of mindless chatter . . and then, YOU. god, you were everything i’d needed. everything i’d ever dreamed of.”
dawson, jack.
the heart beating inside his chest felt heavy– this time it was not of sadness but of complete THANKFULNESS. he had spent the last moments of his life wishing for even a few MORE minutes with rose and had realized too late that their time together would be cut so TRAGICALLY short. no pain had been greater than the last few words he spoke, the promise he had wanted her to make to him. he wished for nothing but PURE happiness for rose, even if that meant he couldn’t be there to see it. there had been nothing in the world he wanted more than to be able to EXPERIENCE it with her, – to marry her, raise children with her, and to be there in the final moments with her. BUT LIFE WAS NOT FAIR. yet– a second chance ?? he was in disbelief of it. the kiss was UNEXPECTED but entirely desired, he met his lips with hers with a BURNING passion. slightly breathless, a slight groan escaped him as she pulled away from him– his mind still DISTRACTED as he pieced together his answer. “an island, i believe. though– if this is heaven, it would not surprise me in the slightest. i don’t really think i fit the credentials for heaven though. i did save one of HIS angels, maybe he decided i could join you.” he said, a sheepish smile. he had no true faith in such a situation, but with as ANGELIC as rose was, perhaps he was wrong. gently bringing his lips back to hers, he pressed his softly to hers, speaking as he continued the action repeatedly. “i do, don’t i ?? no where near the water– my luck isn’t exactly spotless with it. i’ll give you all the cheap beer you want, horse riding– we can dance every night– you and i. forever.”
BLISS. the fiery-haired girl is in PURE bliss . . and it were as if NOTHING had come between them. her passion never FADED -- much like an unyielding flame. burning brightly and luminously. to her, jack was more treasurable than ANY diamond she’d ever owned and losing him had been her greatest SORROW. this was the man she’d been set on spending the REST of her life with. from the v e r y beginning, she knew it . . and then he’d been so ABRUPTLY taken from her. yet, here they are. diamonds weighing her down, and a corset suffocating her -- she’s seventeen, AGAIN. now, with nothing to tear them apart. an almost identical noise left her own lips, mostly due to the a c h e she’d felt after having disconnected her lips from his. “where do you suppose we’re near ?? if this truly is heaven -- we WON’T have to worry much of my mother.” sure, while running through the ship’s halls with him to escape lovejoy was QUITE exhilarating, she’d much rather it be just the two of them. with nothing to be concerned of. his words were just enough to prompt her into pressing her body to his even tighter. he’d given up his LIFE to save hers & she’d do anything to make sure he’d never left her again. with his lips back on hers, she felt the corners of her lips pull into a smile -- not only from the action ( which she did find truly amusing -- ) but just the mere thought of being back with him. even in the toughest of situations, jack still had his humor. which was just another thing she’d LOVED about him. she even recalls quite clearly of his intentions to write a ‘strongly worded letter to the white star line.’ “why, i’m not quite sure i remember the steps.” she quipped, a hand traveling to rest atop his shoulder, while the other interlaced their fingers. “there’s no one i’d rather spend eternity with than you, jack.”
