Continued work on an animatic and added some sound to fit the tone of the atmosphere. The ending still needs to be worked out a bit and there may be some more timing issues to fix.

Revised Story & Story Beats
New summary:
Three absent-minded juvenile delinquents spend the day “terrorizing” their neighborhood. They start by helping an old woman cross the street. They run off spray painting bunnies and rainbows in dark alleyways. They come across a car parked incorrectly and scold the owner when he comes back. They help a kid playing baseball get his ball back from someone’s yard. Finally they help a girl get her Frisbee out of a tree. As they make a human totem-pole with their bodies a pink purse his one of them in the face as they are getting the Frisbee down. They all look at the purse and realize that they accidentally stole the old woman’s purse! They all immediately fall over and start to run back; not realizing they still have the Frisbee in their hand as well. They dash past the baseball kid, past the owner of the car who is now stopped in traffic, finally through the alleyway that they painted and find the little old woman sitting at a bus stop looking worried and wiping tears from her eyes. The three rush over and apologize profusely for accidentally stealing her purse. The old woman is delighted and relieved to see her purse again. She talks with the delinquent’s before the bus comes and she gets on and the bus leaves. The three wave her off but then realize that they are still holding on to the girl’s Frisbee! It ends with the three delinquents running back and turning down the alleyway.

Story Alterations:
Setting changed from sometime during summer to September. There are less people visiting New York City during that time of year so there can be less background characters. Plus the weather can still be nice and sunny. Not to mention that the Baseball season is from April to October so it will still make sense for the boy to be playing baseball.
The scene with the small team of baseball kids will be changed to a singular child playing baseball so we can again minimize the amount of characters to animate.
The girl will still be included but her kitten in a tree will be replaced by a Frisbee.
The ending of the story has also been altered so that the delinquents will now realize sooner that they stole the old woman’s purse and run back to the bus stop with the girl’s Frisbee still in their hands as well. In the end they will have to run back and (supposedly as we don’t see them do it) give the girl her Frisbee.

Research & Development
The main inspiration for my film is Disney’s Big Hero 6. The images included above give a feel for the style that I am looking for in my film. I love the stylized yet realistic look of all the characters. They all have soft, rounded features which makes them appear very friendly. I also love the fact that they look like they can stretch out and exaggerate their features given the right circumstance. I am also very interested in the world. Since Big Hero 6 is also set in a big city there are many features, and stylistic choices here that I feel I can implement into my own film. Lots of background characters walking around, cars zipping by, and even the shops on the corners of streets. Although Big Hero 6′s city of San Fransokyo is based off of San Francisco in California; and Tokyo in Japan all the elements of a big city like New York City are present.

Mini-map layout of the story
4/24/18
The story will start with the three helping an old lady cross a crowded crosswalk. We will be able to see NYC taxis and lots of people. There will be trash littering the streets in true NYC fashion. It will be a sunny and nice looking day. Some color but mostly grays and muted tones.
From there we will move into a more shaded area. This will be the alleyway that the three will be spray paining in. Again the colors will be very muted except for the spray paint that will be covering the walls. After they are done we will be back outside again in a parking area which is out of the shade. The colors will still stay very muted.
After the parking area we will move to a more open area. A small dirt lot with chain link fencing around it and some small green shrubs. This is where the baseball team practices. There is a little more green than there has been but it is still surrounded by gray buildings. Then after that we will be in central park with a lot of bright green and earthy tones. We will still be able to see the gray buildings in the background.
The three will be in central park until the sun starts to go down and the sky changes color to oranges and purples. This is when the three realize that they have accidentally stolen the purse and will run back through all the previous locations now with the darker lighting.
Finally the three will get back to the crosswalk and in the small bus stop next to it the old woman will be sitting there waiting for the bus.

World
The story takes place entirely in New York City. It’s the start of summer when kids usually get out for summer break and there are tons of tourists and people walking around. The story begins in the morning around 9am and occurs up until sunset around 7:30pm. It is a clear sunny day, no clouds in the sky at all. When the sun starts to go down the shadows of the buildings will get longer and darker but still not pitch black.

Some small character explorations
4/18/18
Ace: Character Summary
Ace:
Ace is the oldest of the three delinquents and the main leader of the troupe. He is the coolest of the cool. Ace’s favorite “delinquent” activity is trying on all the display sunglasses at the nearby gas station. He tends to worry about if he is doing the right thing. Ace used to be involved with the toughest gang in town but has since changed his ways. He often worries about his friends and if he is putting them at any risk. Ace despite his age can also be childish and will go along with some of Jet’s risky ideas. Ace’s dream is to become a police officer and to help as many people as he can. His biggest fear is losing his friends and potentially going to jail.
4/16/18
Lee: Character Summary
Lee:
Lee is between Jet and Ace in age. Lee is the shyest and quietest of the three. They have a resting mean-face which is usually why they get mistaken for being the hostile one of the group. Lee’s favorite “delinquent” activity is reorganizing clothing in a store if it has been misplaced. Lee is the most studious of the three delinquents. They study on their time off and help the other two with their homework. Lee likes playing games on their phone. This has become a bad habit and now Lee gets distracted more easily. They can be very absent minded and tend to overlook things. Lee’s deepest desire is to one day become a fashion designer. Lee has a fear of failure and getting caught up in something that may ruin their chances of ever achieving their dream.
4/16/18
Jet: Character Summary
Jet:
Jet is the youngest of the three delinquents. Jet is the most outgoing and loud of the three. He will often race off in search of things to do. His favorite “delinquent” activity is scraping gum off of the sides of railings. He is a bit of a daredevil and will often suggest activities that might be seen as dangerous; such as watching a new series but starting from season two. He is also the most active of the three and is always playing sports in his free time. Because of this he has become very competitive and is known to sometimes go overboard when it comes to gloating. He will also get extremely mad if he loses especially in soccer. Jet dreams to be a world class athlete. Although he would also be happy as a zoo keeper cause he absolutely loves pandas. Jet’s worst fear is getting himself or his bros into trouble.

They help a group of kids playing baseball get their ball back from someone’s yard. Then they help a little girl get her kitten out of a tree. They all look at the purse and realize that they accidentally stole the old woman’s purse! They all immediately turn around and run back. As they are looking for the old woman they come across the little girl and her kitten, the baseball team, the owner of the car that was parked incorrectly; all of whom point them in the same direction. They run through the alleyway that they painted and find the little old woman sitting at a bus stop looking worried and wiping tears from her eyes. The three rush over and apologize profusely for accidentally stealing her purse. The old woman is delighted and relieved to see her purse again. She talks with the delinquent’s before the bus comes and she gets on and the bus leaves. We then realize that the old lady has left her glasses at the bus stop. It ends with the three delinquents chasing after the bus waving as the sun sets.

Revised Theme & Logline:
LOGLINE:
A group of brotherly, benign delinquents find themselves rushing around the city when one of them accidentally steals an old woman’s purse.
THEME:
Some of the themes I would like to explore within my story are friendship, justice and the idea of not judging a book by its cover. Friendship is very important to me personally and I have many experiences with my friend groups that I can pull from to get inspiration out of. Justice would be an interesting theme for me to try and integrate into my story. My mother was a police officer and I can draw from her stories for inspiration. I feel like this would fit into this story as the three will believe what they are doing is the right thing to do. “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is another theme I would like to explore as it opens doors for the characters that I would like to use. Making an unlikely hero out of someone who wouldn’t normally fit that position, like a gangster or delinquent.
