Theo Angelopoulos' masterpiece "Forever and a Day" is a film about a poet's last day and a refugee boy's encounter, a story about "a day in the journey of life." Now, there is an art project in Kroningen, Germany, with the exact same name. "The Forever and a Day BĂŒro that we started is an activity to discover current talent, centered in Kroningen, where many new artists live, even from Berlin. Wouldn't it be amazing if you were given 'one more day' in the time called 'eternity'? Because it means there is time beyond infinity!" says Ben Cottrell, a painter and head of the Forever and a Day BĂŒro. His paintings are incredibly intense and filled with a flood of color. "My father was a sailor. After graduating from an art school in the English countryside, I started my art career in Glasgow, England, but it didn't work out. The scene I had imagined wasn't there. So in 2001 I moved to Berlin, and after doing a few exhibitions in people's apartments and things like that, a lot of things started to happen." Still in Berlin 76
In this city where the walls of the former shogunate remain vividly intact, artists from all over the world now flock to. Rents are relatively cheap, and the tolerant environment towards art has likely created the vibrant scene it is today. "The animalistic energy hidden within humans"
"I want to express Ghee. A feeling like the energy of an outer 'planet' and the human 'brain' are mixed together, and it's floating... Do you understand?" Ben says. His boundless curiosity and passion for art were directly conveyed through his work.
