Life has changed a lot - I live in the PNW now, I have a little farm with goats, rabbits, and poultry, I’m an equine vet assistant, and lactose is now my #1 enemy. I want to post food and animal pics, as well as pics I just like. And of course, I’ll be sharing whatever else that comes across my feed that I enjoy 💜

The Mustangs Who Went to War — and Never Came Home

By the late 1800s, horses had become abundant across the West — descendants of those brought by settlers, shaped by Indigenous stockmanship, and surviving generations on open rangeland.

When foreign militaries needed strong, durable mounts, traders turned to America’s western horses. Tens of thousands were rounded up and shipped overseas — bound for the Boer War in South Africa, campaigns in India, and later European wars.

They were packed onto ships from ports like Galveston and New Orleans, with little food or water. Many died before reaching shore — some voyages lost nearly half the horses on board.

Those who survived endured brutal service in desert heat and famine. When the wars ended, most were not brought home. Quarantine laws, disease, and cost led the British War Office to order mass culling. Thousands of American horses — likely many of Mustang descent — were shot, skinned, or rendered for animal feed and tallow.

It’s a heartbreaking chapter of history rarely told: wild-born horses from the American West sent across the ocean, only to die in foreign wars.

Not only should it be law that anything AI generated on the internet should be labelled as such but every website, app, and digital service should have a button I can click that removes any AI from my interactions with that site/service. I don't want your AI assistant I don't want your AI-generated ad copy I don't want this insidious little thing that has crept into so much of the internet that I can be using it without even realising or knowing. If you couldn't be bothered to have a human make it I can't be bothered to look at it sorry bye

while i hope the AI boom dies out i also hope we start acknowledging data center water overconsumption as it's own unique issue because like. it's not AI itself that harms the environment it's the hardware hosting it, right? same reason nfts and cryptocurrency were also bad for the environment. the root problem isn't going away so long as we allow big companies to continue hitching their wagon to the next big tech trend. i worry if they don't get stronger regulation we'll just be repeating the same issue whenever the next toy comes along.
