ok and this just occurred to me, but 002 does try to bait Ijin into losing his composure in their next fight. But unlike 002, Ijin's anger and protectiveness makes him a better fighter rather than hampering his abilities

Drew these cause Im mad at how misogynistic the writing is. Especially with yeona and 003, they couldve been a great love interest and villian💔💔 If only literally anyone else was writing

Ijin- Could very well see him as fire, water, and earth -- mainly earth and water, but I'm going to go with earth; it matches with his fighting style (not that the writer gave him much technique but whatever) and earth is know for endurance and persistence, so it fits well with his personality. He's for sure a bender
002- All of the numbers are so hard to pick for lmao. Earth but I can see water aswell -- His personality leans more towards earth kingdom, however when he was first introduced i could see him as a fire bender, he kinda got watered down though. He's a bender
005- Again, could see her as water, fire, or earth; I'm personally leaning towards water and earth for no particular reason, if I had had pick I'd say water matches her character better. She's a bender and I think she'd be pretty skilled in her respective elements sub bending too (healing, metal bending, etc).
004-- Fire😭 only obvious choice, 100% a bender.
003- Fire she's very driven and passionate; she's also basically a worse version of azula. She's definitely a bender and I feel like she'd have lighting bending down.
006- Earth? Can't really tell tbh, I could see air for him though, but that might just be his currently personality, if we're looking at his first apperance I'd say earth. I think he'd be an above average bender -- like really good -- but not to the levels of prodigy in the show. Im not a big fan of him so I don't have the best grasp of his character sorry😭
032- Hard to say but I think water (he seems like he'd also work as an airbender though), i think he'd be pretty skilled in healing. I actually think I could could him as a non bender but he's probably a bender just cause of the camp.

Alice- Earth or water, she has a deep sense of comradery with her allies and family, she's also very enduring and headstrong I guess? I think water just fits with her character overall. Unsure but she's for sure a super talented bender, can't see her being too good at sub bending though.

Water or air; currently leaning towards air cause I think its description fits better thematically with her character ( Her letting go of her share of the company to live a normal life of freedom ). Don't personally think she'd be a bender but I could definitely see it and ithink it'd make sense.

Anything but air sorta kinda fits, I'm going with fire or earth though, more towards earth cause of his enduring personality and also he just doesn't have the right personality for me to categorise him as a fire bender, all fire nation characters have such distinct personalities and drives. He's definitely a prodigy, could maybe see him doing some sub bending? Don't think he'd be amazing, but passable

Yeongchan just doesn't have that nor does he have a firey drive so I'm giving water? We only saw him act out when his mother was in harms way. I don't know, honestly he doesn't fit with any to me personally, he could also be air??😭 100% not a bender
Dayeon- water, pretty obvious choice she has a deep sense of community and love etc. I could she her being a non bender or a non combatant, not in the sense that she'd she'd a healer (though that would fit) but just that she'd use it in her daily life.
Jiye- fire. Pretty obvious once you look at how the element is described -- she has drive. Don't think she'd be a bender but I'm not against it.
Mad dog - I was gonna say fire but it was kinda dominating (while I was writing) so I'll go with earth. I don't really think he has the passion to fit with fire anyway, plus he's prideful. Definitely a bender don't think he'd have made it to his position if he wasn't.
Duhsik- Could be fire or earth but I think earth matches his personality, I could see him fighting better as a fire bender though -- Also could kinda see him as a waterbender ngl. Definitely a bender but self taught.
Iron- Fire, again he has the drive to get what he wants, he's pretty stereotypical actually for a fire bender. Probably a bender but i could see him as non bender
Oo that is so fun! Here are my two cents on what benders everyone would be:
Ijin: Nonbender. He was brought to Camp as a joke and none of the trainers thought he would survive. Definitely learned a lot of chi blocking and gained a lot of insight from the numbers and their bending styles.
002: Firebender. This is partially bc I 100% believe that One is a firebender, and I want the brothers to have the same element. It's also because of the destructive power 002 has while fighting. 002 does bend using techniques from other elements, but he primarily draws from earthbending. He'll often concentrate his fire into small conical blazes, rather than wide sweeping flames.
003: Airbender. Airbending tries to take the path of least resistance and to use an opponents energy against them, which corresponds well with the way 003 operates and manipulates others. She will steal the breath from others' lungs. She will steal the breath from people's lungs.
004: Waterbender. There's a lot of fluidity to the way 004 fights in canon, and I also considered fire and air, but I think an element that has more mass would suit him better. He uses ice a lot.
005: Earthbender. There is a lot of power to the way 005 fights, and she is unyielding in her ideals. I think she's be able to bend earth astonishingly fast, and that she would also draw a lot from other bending techniques, especially fire.
006: Airbender. 006 is quick to adapt to situations at hand, which suits the style of airbending. But, because of his attachments to 032, his bending is greatly hindered while at Camp when they are forced apart. When they're allowed to finally come back together and be a family again, his bending becomes much freer, and subsequently stronger, than before. He frequently uses his bending to enhance his agility and assist in his chi blocking (he uses it much more than the other numbers besides Ijin.)
008: Earthbender. The way 008 fights relies heavily on poweful force and you can hit the hardest with earth lol. He can move large amounts of earth pretty easily.
016: Earthbender. Particularly with a sensitivity to metal. He's a sniper, he's gotta have projectiles, and I feel like you get the most range with earthbending. I think he'd have trouble bending large amounts of earth at a time, but the accuracy and precision of his bending is unmatched.
018: Waterbender. Mostly because of its healing properties, and he's been shown to be a medic in canon.
032: Airbender. He's brothers with 006, who is also an airbender. His anxiety greatly hinders his bending abilities, though, especially offensively. Instead, he uses his bending to better anticipate and interrupt the flow of opponents.
Dayeon: Nonbender. I think the Yu family would be comprised of nonbenders. Not being a bender makes her an easier target for bullying as well.
Yeona: Firebender. I can see the Shin family being comprised of very powerful firebenders, and most of their arranged marriages were done with the keeping the bending powerful in mind. She's scared of the destructive power of fire and avoids bending. I'd like to think in an au like this, a big reason she develops a crush on Ijin is because he helps her find the strength and bravery to embrace that side of her again.
Seokju: Nonbender. Definitely very skilled in chi blocking. I'm not 100% about him being a nonbender, though, because I feel the Shin family wouldn't want to have a nonbender as a bodyguard. Plus, if Seokju was a bender, it could increase the insecurity he feels towards Ijin (who would still be able to defeat him as a nonbender) which is a fun concept. BUT him as a nonbender is also very fun, because he would be exceptionally skilled at combat, but he still has to deal with the disadvantage of not being a bender. He would have to fight tooth an nail to prove himself, and he could still have the insecurity of being compared to Ijin when Ijin gets instant recognition despite being a nonbender. It could also be fun if he was a nonbender born to bending parents.
Hyeokjin: Earthbender. Idk. Vibes.
Jaehyung: Waterbender. Neither he or Hyeokjin are particularly good, even though they think they are. They tend just to use their bending to prank other people and often forget the power it gives them over nonbenders.
Yeongchan: Nonbender. Similar reason as Dayeon: being a nonbender contributes to him being chosen as a victim of bullying.

I still think fire makes most sense for 003 but you've convinced me with 004, I can imagine him using ice spikes a lot lmao.
Ijin being a non bender is such a cool idea and i think it fits him well, the only reason i didn't pick it is cause i just don't think the camp would bother with a non bender. Love the idea of that contributing to seokjus inferiority with ijin though. I kinda have the same opinion with seokju though I just don't think SW would trust yeona with a non bender😭 you're so right on him being a chi blocker, wish I had included that

I'm still not sold on 003 being a firebender. I do love the idea of her bending lighting, but fire as an element feels too direct for me to place her that way. It seems like something we'll just have to agree to disagree on haha.
But yessss for 004, he so would make ice spikes a lot. It's practically limitless knives that he can control at will lol. Although I am debating whether 004 would be adept at utilizing the way he can change the state of matter of the water (ie: creating steam or using ice to immobilize an opponent) or if he would tend to unintentionally limit himself by sticking with ice so much.
I def agree that Camp usually wouldn't waste their time on a nonbender, which is why all the other numbers I interpreted as being benders. I viewed Camp bringing Ijin in as an act of cruelty. Because waterbenders can heal, it wouldn't have put them out too much to fix Ijin up, and they expected him to get killed early on. It was unexpected for Ijin to not just survive in Camp, but to succeed the way he did. That's at least how I justified Ijin being a nonbender to myself lol.
I do agree that SW wouldn't trust Yeona's safety to a nonbender, despite how much I want to make Seokju one. So as bender, I think he'd be an earthbender. I'd say it's the element that has the greatest potential for defense, and as a bodyguard that would be essential. He'd be able to create barriers to protect Yeona, or create restraints to immobilize any assailants, and I do think he'd still be a chi blocker. He struggles the most against other earthbenders when defending Yeona, and he would resort to chi blocking against them as much as possible. (Maybe even using his earthbending to hit their pressure points? 👀) And then Ijin comes along and is better than him despite being a nonbender and that sucks for Seokju soooo much.
A little more about 008, because I was thinking about it when writing for Seokju, is that I think he would also frequently immobilize his opponents with earthbending. But unlike Seokju, he can overpower the bending of other earthbenders so they can't break free of his restraints while he is focusing on them. Seokju has great control, 008 has overwhelming power, 005 has both.
Lol yeah there really isn't much to pull from for them in canon. I do like the idea of 018 practicing his healing during Camp training days, but because everything at Camp was combat oriented, he had to figure it out completely on his own.
Ok but forreal, making Yeona a firebender was one of my favorite placements too :3 I feel like it fits so well for her and her character and gives her room to grow into herself and her power. I can also see Yeongho being discouraging of her exploring her bending in non-superficial ways because he doesn't want her to feel strong or powerful or in control of her life or body. I think she should challenge him to an agni kai at some point :3
This really is so fun; I wouldn't even have considered an avatar au before and now I'm having the best time thinking about it.
I'm currently relistening to the magnus archives, and I got to thinking "what entity would the numbers would be an avatar of?" Do I think all of them could be an avatar of the slaughter? Yes. BUT besides that, this is what I think they would be:
Ijin: The End. As deadliest of all the numbers, if Ijin decides it's the end for you, you won't escape your fate. He is an emissary of death, and his reputation as Mercenary Jin precedes him and strikes fear into even the most accomplished mercenaries when they learn they're opposing him.
002: The Stranger. 002 wears masks upon masks upon masks, even his own team has trouble understanding him. Especially before defecting from Camp, his behavior was a performance meant to keep Mad Dog and others on edge.
003: The Web. Very straightforward; 003 is a manipulator. She lays traps for her opponents and is willing to lie to anyone to get what she wants, and she will leverage her looks and others' sexism and perceptions of her to manipulate them into doing her bidding.
I almost assigned her to the corruption because of her obsession with 002, her desire eating away at her like worms, as worms, until she becomes an avatar herself, but I wasn't sure if she would be a victim of it or become an avatar. Although, with the corruption, i think that line is the most blurred.
004: The Hunt. Being primarily a knife user, 004 has to pursue This was perfectly exemplified during the arc when the mercenary union was after them. It was explicitly acknowledged that 004 had become the predator in that situation and if they were all the prey. The fear inspired within the enemy at the thought of being 004's next victim crippled them.
005: The Dark. Specializing in assassination, she is what lurks in the dark. It is essential for her to operate unseen, and the fear that can be evoked of knowing someone is there, but not who/where she is works well with assassination.
006: The Spiral. He had to distance himself from 032, and despite caring about his brother, he wasn't allowed to show it, making 032 doubt that his brother cared for him at all and made him conflicted over the way he felt towards 006. He is a deceiver: faking his own death and he tried to create at least a distraction that would point away from Ijin being alive when he went after 002 and 004.
008: The Flesh. Yeah. It's because he's a mountain of a man.
016: The Eye. He's a sniper. He watches his target from a hidden vantage point, observing them until he takes his shot. He can pick off targets, making them paranoid and afraid of him and his presence without revealing his location.
018: The Flesh. A perversion of his abilities as a medic. He understands the human body and how it works.
032: The Eye. His tech savviness makes him a perfect fit here. He specialized in gathering information, and while the other numbers are much more active on the battlefield, he tends to observe and provide information via drones or security cameras, and he can hack into enemy systems, allowing the numbers to become privy to their intel.

Seokju: Nonbender. Definitely very skilled in chi blocking. I'm not 100% about him being a nonbender, though, because I feel the Shin family wouldn't want to have a nonbender as a bodyguard. Plus, if Seokju was a bender, it could increase the insecurity he feels towards Ijin (who would still be able to defeat him as a nonbender) which is a fun concept. BUT him as a nonbender is also very fun, because he would be exceptionally skilled at combat, but he still has to deal with the disadvantage of not being a bender. He would have to fight tooth an nail to prove himself, and he could still have the insecurity of being compared to Ijin when Ijin gets instant recognition despite being a nonbender. It could also be fun if he was a nonbender born to bending parents.
Hyeokjin: Earthbender. Idk. Vibes.
Jaehyung: Waterbender. Neither he or Hyeokjin are particularly good, even though they think they are. They tend just to use their bending to prank other people and often forget the power it gives them over nonbenders.
Yeongchan: Nonbender. Similar reason as Dayeon: being a nonbender contributes to him being chosen as a victim of bullying.

ok but thinking about how 002 was more relieved that everyone made it out of the One fight alive makes me think that the all out assault wasn't his idea. What I think happened, because all of the numbers were congregated already, was that it was put to a vote what they would do about One. And because all of the numbers are so gung ho about protecting Ijin's civilian life, it was voted by majority that they would do everything they could to eradicate One as quick as possible.
As always, 002 abstained from casting his vote.
But because it is what the group decided, 002 will enforce their decision. It's why he was so harsh to Ijin when Ijin intervened, but simultaneously relieved that Ijin showed up and prevented any deaths from occurring within the numbers.
