#when people do fidelity criticism about the epics/greek myth/etc it seems silly to me also #would you say this to james joyce about ulysses #or ralph ellison about invisible man #etc #most epics are extremely mutable in modern adaptation #because they're conduits for other stories #carrie is kind of incomparable. it's not that kind of work #also. especially because the 'nobody' scene itself is quite minor in the scope of the odyssey #iconic in literature and art yes of course #i was just writing an article that had mentions of it last year #but the carrie complaint is the one you actually want to be making in the og post #because that's 'taking out fundamental thematic parts of the original work in straightforward adaptation'
