I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.

the thing is that tv is a character-centric medium. how did shows like friends and frasier, for instance, each run for 11 seasons? people loved the characters, and invited them into their homes every week. this was true of sitcoms, procedurals, and even more serialized shows like buffy, etc.
i think what's frustrating about a lot of modern streaming tv is that it's lost the plot in this regard. you have these short seasons that don't really have the time to develop characters, in the character-centric medium, so a lot of things just start to fall flat because of this. what are we here for, if not that? people don't come to television for scale and spectacle; you go to the movies for that.
I don’t think people truly understand the scope of the damage Sony is about to do to physical media. They literally invented the compact disc. They are the reason why Blu-ray as a format won the HD wars over HD-DVD. They have gargantuan influence over manufacturing disc-based media. If Sony as a company stops making physical media for their next gen gaming consoles, this is going to affect movies and music as well. If you buy CDs, DVDs, or Blu-rays, those are next on the chopping block.
