The Crazy Horse Memorial is a mountain sculpture in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It was started in 1948 and is far from finished. Tomato Poem

Sciene is trying to build better tongues so the fruit can seem sweeter without having to improve. in the feilds we grow hope, which fruits commercially The insipid, mealy, refrigerated brand That shines a garish red. These plastic twists need us, Like a gene that turns love red, But drains the sap, It is not fecund, It is flat. But I still remember, That day I wandered away from the sugared aisles, And found you in the fields. I picked you and bit your sun-hot skin like an apple. This is how devotion should taste, Like an entire season outside. Your vines don’t need us. Your DNA tweaked through tradition to add desire. But without you we are doomed to blandness. To thrive commercially and simply produce, In place of savoring your perishable fruit, Which cannot be saved, and instead should be consumed.

Do you really want to touch her? You hesitated then took her hands and looked into the years that she had never encountered.  She said, “Hush.”  You watched her.  She restrained a wince.  You waited. She held her chest.  She opened her mouth and began to breathe.  She closed her eyes.  You waited.  At last her eyes opened and she said,  “Why can I see?” Do you know?

Oct. 28 : Childhood

In your childhood it all made a weird kind of sense. Gone now. Flat. As a child I was all right. Sugar solved a lot of problems. Later, I had an idea. I waited, then waited. Admit it. You're waiting too.
