so how does rubynite feel about being a fusion? how does white diamond react to them if she knows? since fusion wasnt A Thing back then do they call rubynite something else?

Rubynite was pretty confused when she emerged, cause i mean. she had two seperate “programmings” going on in her head at the same time. She usually acts as one person, a stable mix of both her parts, but there are occassions where the two are more split and they become unstable. But since their actual gems are stuck together, they can’t actually diffuse. In those moments where she’s less stable, her two parts will actually talk to each other and try to sort things out (though it’s mostly just her Ruby half getting angry and her Kyanite half trying to be logical). When she emerged she was slated to be shattered and harvested, but Black Star Sapphire foresaw her shattering, and knew Black Diamond would be interested in Rubynite, so she told Black Diamond about her, and Rubynite was brought to Black Diamond. Rubynite actually emerged in one of White’s kindergartens, but Black adopted Rubynite into the Black Court because she knew that if she didn’t White would’ve just shattered her. Black never told White about Rubynite; what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her. or Rubynite

Rubynite wasn’t... well liked on Homeworld. Usually seen as a freak of nature, though most of the other defective and off-colour gems that Black Diamond rescued from shattering accepted Rubynite as one of their own. Most gems would call her Ruby in Kyanite since that’s her official designated name. Almost all of her work is done on Black Diamond’s colony planets, so she’s made friends with some of the other gems she works alongside, and most of them just call her Rubynite. Most of her friends are Quartzes, but there are a couple of higher ranking gems that will talk to her.

Rubynite's fusion stability

Since Rubynite is a forced fusion, she can't just de-fuse when her component's have a disagreement or become out of sync, so in these cases her physical form will change and become less stable as it tries to seperate.

at 100% stability, Rubynite is in complete control, and her components are in sync. she has 2 eyes, and 2 arms that split at the forearm.

75%

at 75% stability, Rubynite still has more or less complete control, although one component's personality may become more dominant. She has 4 eyes, and 2 arms that split at the forearms.

50%

at 50% stability, Rubynite is becoming more drowned out by the personalities of her components, Ruby and Kyanite, as one or the other tries to take control. She has 4 eyes and 4 arms.

25%

at 25% stability, Rubynite is almost completely drowned out as Ruby and Kyanite fight for control. She has 4 eyes, 4 arms, and 2 mouths. Each component has control of one mouth.

0%

at 0% stability, Rubynite is on the verge of falling apart as her components try to split. The two halves of her form each become more distinctly like the appearances of her components, and the two sides try to pull apart. what little remains of Rubynite in this state is desperately trying to hold herself together, but in this state it won't be long before her form is too unstable to remain, and she poofs.

yeah! Umbrakinesis is basically Darkness Manipulation, and Black Diamond can do a lot of it (I’ll include links so you can read up if you’re interested)

she can create objects out of pure darkness (Umbrakinetic Constructs), she can create shadow clones which will do whatever the person casting the shadow wants them to do (Animated Shadow), she can create darkness (Shadow Generation) and snuff out all the light in a room (Absolute Darkness), she can disappear entirely into the shadows (Shadow Camouflage), she can create attacks of pure dark energy (Darkness Attacks), she can puppet others by taking control of their shadow (Shadow Marionette), she can surround herself in an aura of darkness (Darkness Aura), and she can turn herself into a sort of cloud of darkness, essentially making her own form a gas, and use that to slip into small places (as long as her gem can fit through (kinda like an octopus)) (Darkness Mimicry)

Black Diamond didn’t often use most of her powers unless she absolutely needed to. With her Absolute Darkness, she could drain all of light out of a room, forcing any gems within to dissipate their forms, since gems are made of hard-light Her Animated Shadows would probably have been the power she used most, creating them for gems who needed extra hands for a job (although she could only do 1 per gem). Her Darkness Mimicry would’ve been useful for getting around Homeworld quickly and quietly.

For black diamonds court, what about her Sapphires? What is her stance on fusion, if any different from the rest of the diamonds? And who was your favorite gem to design for her court??

she has a Black Star Sapphire (i haven't drawn her yet but I'm going to after i draw Midnight Pearl's guard)! her speciality is foreseeing tragedy (although she never could foreseen the tragedy of White Diamond's betrayal)

When Black Diamond was still on Homeworld, they hadn't even DISCOVERED fusion yet! not even same gem fusion! Once she goes to Earth and finds out about it, she's absolutely FASCINATED by it! She asks the local fusions SO many questions, and eventually Black Spinel asks if she wants to try fusion for herself, and they do! they fuse into a Black Star Diopside! and since the two of them spent so long together bonding and stuff, their fusion is *almost* perfect. the only imperfection is that BSD has 6 fingers on each hand, rather than 5.

so far my favourite gem in her court that I've designed had been Black Spinel. i love jester aesthetics and it was really fun working it all into one design. (the hardest design to make was Iris Agate, i drew like 3 different designs before i finally made one i like)

So a lot of gems seem to often be made by one diamond. Like how all Rose Quartz were made by pink. If this applies, what type of gem would Black Diamond create and what would they be for?

i feel like Black Diamond would make some sort of peacekeeper gem. One that can put an end to arguments and disagreements, and broker treaties between warring parties, or act as ambassadors to life on other planets (Black Diamond disliked completely wiping out life on colony planets, and would create protective biome domes on her colonies, so that the natural life on the planet could continue living on, and perhaps in a few million years the effects of the kindergartens would fade and life would return to the planet).

perhaps that's what natural (non-fusion) Obsidian's jobs were on homeworld. Strong enough to be able to put up a fight in an argument, but sensible and empathetic enough to understand both sides of the story and come to a solution.
