impulse bought a pilot parallel so i can start learning gothic lettering which is FINE because it was only seventeen dollars (kicking the additional 100$ in inks i added for free shipping under the bed) and it's a departure from my usual "guilt myself for 48 hours before making any superfluous purchase" (in my defense i haven't bought any stationery since september and i've been meaning to get some bottles of samples i loved and ran out of). i've been prioritizing speed over aesthetics when handwriting for more than half my life because i need to keep up with my brain so it will be interesting to try and slowwwww down and learn patience!
though it does get me thinking i need to get back to writing by hand - i spent most of fall and winter in a slump and i've been getting back into it and writing some stuff i actually really like but it's all been on the laptop. but i honestly think there's some huge added value to manuscript writing because it forces you to stay really close in my mind to where mya hand is so there's a lot of energy and Craft that goes into each sentence. the downside of this is i can sometimes be forced to commit to a certain direction in the construction without a backspace (i'll strike stuff out if i need to but only up to a point) so there's a certain linearity to it, i suppose? but it also lets me keep a "fix it in post" mindset where i know i'll edit as i transcribe so it's a very synergic kind of process. yeah i love that shit i need to whip out my notebook NEOW

“When he spooned an extra portion onto Jon's plate and gave him the crusty heel of the bread, he knew what it meant. He knows. He looked around the hall, saw heads turn quickly, eyes politely averted. They all know.”

the way Fitz repeatedly asserted that Buckkeep's atmosphere was a more pleasing and welcoming one once Kettricken was there because the keep had the "touch of a woman again" but never acknowledged the fact that it was first and foremost the touch of a Chyurdan that made it feel so. It was the tapestries woven in the mountain style. The simplicity of Kettricken's designs and their openness. The familiar gardening techniques she employed that he didn't realize were familiar, her natural focus on water and tranquility and light and all the things little Keppet would have absorbed like a plant when he was growing up. The idea that somewhere deep down he recognized and was drawn to all these little aspects of the culture that was denied to him. The way it made Buckkeep feel more like home, even if he was also constantly remarking on how changed the space was, too. Something I ponder and consider sometimes.
will sharpe is so good looking and charismatic it's not even funny. if he was a woman i'd be fully cunt struck to an embarrassing level
