The 1957 Zorro series except Diego is replaced by Puss in Boots. No one ever wonders how Don Alejandro could have fathered a cat or why he speaks.

so
fic where diego gets a package in the mail
and he unwraps it and they it turns out to be a lovely frilly dress, for him
and then hes all like ???
but hten he still tries it on it private
and it fits perfectly, like someone had taken his size
and the fabric is very nice and comfortable, and its good for pirouettes so when he takes it off again he puts it in a neat little box far underneath his bed
(noticed by someone watching attentively, perhaps with binoculars)
and then
he gets more mail
and letters with them
like
'that skirt looks so good on you'
and
'the color really matches your style'
and stuff
and diego blushes everytime
and sometimes its also suits, but a little tighter and frillier than his normal ones, designed to show him off
and then one letter goes like
'i love seeing you in these, please wear it tomorrow so i admire you better'
and then diego like, realizes this is weird and somebody has been watching him and they want more and what if they want somethign he doesnt wanna give?
so he puts all the letters in a big box and has it moved to the attic and tries never to think about it again
he keeps his curtains closed and everything
(enriques heartbroken)
and then, some weeks later, theres a new package
and he unwraps and its a black dress, with a foxy tail
and his heart sinks
and he tells his father he is going to leave for a while, to somewhere else
because now he knows, it must be enrique, but it cant be, because why didnt he lock diego up?
so in the end his curiosity takes control and he visits the comandante at night, but to his surprise the man is awake, sketching and stuff and theres needles everywhere and loose strips of fabric
and diegos so shocked he trips over the windowsill and falls into the room
and enrique is just like 0.0 um
they both just freeze
and then diego notices all the needles pricks in enriques fingers he couldnt place before, and he realizes how much work the man put into it
and then its like
well
he cant just leave
so enrique is like, death scared hes gonna get murdered or smt, cause diegos face is unreadable and its been some time since he came into enriques rooms like that
and diegos just like, what are you designing?
and then

every rewatch you notice something new. mostly how insane you are for thinking this is romantic.

love that for the first third or half of the season we have a commandante who is crooked, corrupt, lawless, uses loopholes to practice slavery, kills people and covers it up, and does all sorts of awful stuff, and then when he's demoted and all we finally breath in relief, but then shortly after the Eagle plotline starts and for the rest of the season we're like can't we get back the killer enslaver coveritupper we kinda miss the killer enslaver coveritupper he was kinda fun to be stabbed and backstabbed by
i mean sure Monastorio was bad, but he didn't 1) collude with foreign powers to sell them part of his own country for profit 2) kill his own innocent men 3) plot genocide.
Also Monastorio's actor was an olympic-level fencer and he fought Zorro himself instead of trying to shoot him or stuff. Sure he was bad but he was sportsmanlike about it. Also he was probably the villain who got closest to figuring out who Zorro was without ripping his mask out, figuring it out, and immediately dying of a fall.
And SURE everyone thought he was going crazy when he accused Diego of being Zorro, and he didn't go about it in the most elegant way, but he was right which is areshdffhsd<fqsghetg anyway i am so normal about the hottest first main villain in Zorro 1957
He was Zorro's best matched villain and the most dangerous one at that (perhaps because he's so unhinged haha). But his obsession with Zorro made for the most exciting storylines in the series (in my opinion), and i think hes one of the favorite villains fandom-wide, including many other adaptions hehe. Britt Lomond loved his character and it really shows, I miss him so much when he's not there
and hes also totally hot in that uniform of course XD
