Friendly reminder that Ed ate an entire slideĀ becauseĀ there was a pebble in his shoe.
Well what else are you supposed to do
This is an issue?
little bit of Jewish history: for several centuries, Jews didnāt have fixed, hereditary surnames. they went byĀ āName son of Fatherā or similar. Ashkenazi Jews mostly didnāt start taking on surnames until the 18th and 19th century, when surnames were made a condition of being recognized as citizens of modern nations. and apparently there was one Jew in Germany who thought hey, if weāve got to take it a surname, letās make it a damn good one.
so this is the name he picked:
WolfeĀschlegelĀsteinĀhausenĀbergerĀdorffĀwelcheĀvorĀalternĀwarenĀgewissenĀhaftĀschafersĀwessenĀschafeĀwarenĀwohlĀgepflegeĀundĀsorgĀfaltigĀkeitĀbeĀschutzenĀvorĀanĀgreifenĀdurchĀihrĀraubĀgierigĀfeindeĀwelcheĀvorĀalternĀzwolfĀhundertĀtausendĀjahĀresĀvoranĀdieĀerĀscheinenĀvonĀderĀersteĀerdeĀmenschĀderĀraumĀschiffĀgenachtĀmitĀtungĀsteinĀundĀsiebenĀiridiumĀelekĀtrischĀmotorsĀgeĀbrauchĀlichtĀalsĀseinĀurĀsprungĀvonĀkraftĀgeĀstartĀseinĀlangeĀfahrtĀhinĀzwischenĀsternĀartigĀraumĀaufĀderĀsuchenĀnachĀbarĀschaftĀderĀsternĀwelcheĀgeĀhabtĀbeĀwohnĀbarĀplanetenĀkreiseĀdrehenĀsichĀundĀwoĀhinĀderĀneueĀrasseĀvonĀverĀstandĀigĀmenschĀlichĀkeitĀkonnteĀfortĀpflanzenĀundĀsicherĀfreuenĀanĀlebensĀlangĀlichĀfreudeĀundĀruĀheĀmitĀnichtĀeinĀfurchtĀvorĀanĀgreifenĀvorĀandererĀintelligentĀgeĀschopfsĀvonĀhinĀzwischenĀsternĀartĀigĀraum
and the fun doesnāt stop there. roughly translated, this name meansĀ āAges ago, there were conscientious shepherds whose sheep were well tended and carefully protected against attack by their rapacious enemies. Twelve hundred thousand years ago there appeared before these first earthmen, at night, a spaceship powered by seven stone and iridium electric motors. It had originally been launched on its long trip into stellar space in the search for neighboring stars that might have planets revolving about them that were inhabitable and on which planets a new race of intelligent humanity might propagate itself and rejoice for life, without fear of attack by other intelligent beings from interstellar space.ā
and then this gentlemanās great-great-grandson was given a 26-wordĀ āfirst nameā featuring names beginning with each successive letter of the alphabet:Ā Adolph Blaine Charles David Earl Frederick Gerald Hubert Irvin John Kenneth Lloyd Martin Nero Oliver Paul Quincy Randolph Sherman Thomas Uncas Victor William Xerxes Yancy Zeus.
but of course thatās impractical for everyday use, so he often went by the nameĀ Hubert B. Wolfe + 666, Sr.Ā he was born in Germany in 1904 or 1914, emigrated to Philadelphia, and died in 1997.
there is no part of this that is not incredible to me.
Wouldnāt Sr mean he game that name to his son too?
If youāve ever been a customer fuck you
honestly, thatās fair
so in horror movies where flat tires stop people from running awayā¦you can still drive with flat tires. it damages the tires and the wheels, and itās not safe at high speeds, but you can still drive away from a raving serial killer. pro tip next time a knife wielding lunatic comes at you get in the car, youāll be fine
well this would have been useful last night
See this is where people make the mistake. If the knife maniac is running straight at your car, SLAM it into reverse. You probably wonāt kill them but you might cause some damage. Then drive. Theyāll be stopped and you can get away, and maybe theyāll even be at the same spot to call the cops (and maybe the ambulance) on
what a top notch addition to an already excellent post
are we going to ignore the guy who apparently had an encounter with a serial killer last night
they lived to post about it, itās fine
Let trans men be as feminine or as masculine as they want
also let trans women be as masculine or feminine as they want
reblog this version too cowards.
I learned a definite lesson tonight. Give the ladies at the front desk of your hotel something small (like flowers) in appreciation of something they did (like help you with organising dry cleaning on short notice when their normal service was shut for the end of year) and they will do nice things (like waive a standard fee for late night sheet changes when you spill almost a whole bottle of water on your bed) In short, go out of your way to recognise something and people will help you if needed
"OCD", by Neil Hilborn.
The first time I saw herā¦
Everything in my head went quiet. All the tics, all the constantly refreshing images just disappeared.
When you have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, you donāt really get quiet moments. Even in bed, Iām thinking: Did I lock the doors? Yes. Did I wash my hands? Yes. Did I lock the doors? Yes. Did I wash my hands? Yes.
But when I saw her, the only thing I could think about was the hairpin curve of her lips. Or the eyelash on her cheekā the eyelash on her cheekā the eyelash on her cheek.
I knew I had to talk to her.
I asked her out six times in thirty seconds. She said yes after the third one, but none of them felt right, so I had to keep going.
On our first date, I spent more time organizing my meal by color than I did eating it, or fucking talking to her⦠But she loved it.
She loved that I had to kiss her goodbye sixteen times or twenty-four times if it was Wednesday. She loved that it took me forever to walk home because there are lots of cracks on our sidewalk.
When we moved in together, she said she felt safe, like no one would ever rob us because I definitely locked the door eighteen times.
Iād always watch her mouth when she talkedā when she talkedā when she talkedā when she talkedā when she talked; when she said she loved me, her mouth would curl up at the edges.
At night, sheād lay in bed and watch me turn all the lights off⦠And on, and off, and on, and off, and on, and off, and on, and off, and on, and off, and on, and off, and on, and off, and on, and off, and on, and off, and on, and off, and on, and off.
Sheād close her eyes and imagine that the days and nights were passing in front of her.
Some mornings Iād start kissing her goodbye but sheād just leave ācause I was just making her late for workā¦
When I stopped in front of a crack in the sidewalk, she just kept walkingā¦
When she said she loved me her mouth was a straight line. She told me that I was taking up too much of her time. Last week she started sleeping at her mothers place.
She told me that she shouldnāt have let me get so attached to her; that this whole thing was a mistake, but⦠How can it be a mistake that I donāt have to wash my hands after I touched her?
Love is not a mistake, and itās killing me that she can run away from this and I just canāt. I can'tā I canāt go out and find someone new because I always think of her.
Usually, when I obsess over things, I see germs sneaking into my skin. I see myself crushed by an endless succession of cars⦠And she was the first beautiful thing I ever got stuck on.
I want to wake up every morning thinking about the way she holds her steering wheelā¦
How she turns shower knobs like sheās opening a safe.
How she blows out candlesā blows out candlesā blows out candlesā blows out candlesā blows out candlesā blows out⦠Now, I just think about who else is kissing her.
I canāt breathe because he only kisses her once ā he doesnāt care if itās perfect.
I want her back so badā¦
I leave the door unlocked.
I leave the lights on.
Only as an adult do I finally understand this joke.
I got super confused by this because I actually live in Townsville... Power puff girls, again!
#submit this for best short at the oscars
this is that one post that iāll always reblog
Itās back
the teacher killin it
HOW IS THIS 6 SECONDS
This is literally one of my favorite vines, a masterpiece really and I will always reblog it and itās just - I love so many just wonderful LOVING TOUCHES about it and itās
The beautiful facial expressions and flawlessly communicative gestures the likes of which would be at home in my college-level dramatic arts classes
The universal relateability
The technical video and sound editing thatās DIRECTLY on the song beat, absolutely A+ timing and that shit is not easy to do
The amazing dramatic use of slow-motion that tells like - this is some Shakespearean drama story - conflict, BETRAYAL, this is Julias Caeser, this is The Iliad
The freaking teacher being in on it and being convinced to shake it down now
in case nobodyās seen the sequel:
