It was about time, SCOTUS

I donât think Iâll ever witness anything more amazing than this post. What level pun is this my god!
Jon Stewart on the Charleston shooting:
I didnât do my job today. Iâve got nothing for you in terms of jokes and sounds because of what happened in South Carolina. And maybe if I wasnât nearing the end of the run or this wasnât such a common occurrence, maybe I could have pulled out of the spiral. But I didnât.
I honestly have nothing other than just sadness once again that we have to peer into the abyss of the depraved violence that we do to each other and the nexus of a just gaping racial wound that will not heal yet we pretend doesnât exist. Iâm confident though, that by acknowledging it â by staring into that and seeing it for what it isâŚWe still wonât do jack shit. Yeah, thatâs us. And thatâs the part that blows my mind.
I donât want to get into the political argument of guns and things. What blows my mind is the disparity of response between when we think people that are foreign are going to kill us and us killing ourselvesâŚ
If this had been what we thought was Islamic terrorism, it would fit into our [narrative]. We invaded two countries and spent trillions of dollars and [lost] thousands of American lives and now fly unmanned death machines over like five or six different counties, all to keep Americans safe. Weâve got to do whatever we can â weâll torture people. Weâve got to do whatever we can to keep Americans safe. But nine people shot in a church, what about that? âHey, what are you going go to do? Crazy is as crazy is, right?â
Thatâs the part that I cannot, for the life of me, wrap my head around. And you know itâs gonna go down the same path. âThis is a terrible tragedy.â They are already using the nuanced language of lack of effort for this.
This is a terrorist attack. This is a violent attack on the Emanuel Church in South Carolina which is a symbol for the black community. It has stood in that part of Charleston for a hundred and some years and has been attacked viciously many times â as many black churches have. And to pretend that â I heard someone on the news say â âtragedy has visited this churchâ. This wasnât a tornado. This was a racist. This was a guy with a Rhodesia badge on his sweater. So the idea that â I hate to even use this pun â but this one is black and white. Thereâs no nuance here. And weâre gonna keep pretending like, âI donât get it, what happened. This one guy lost his mind.â
But we are steeped in that culture in this country and we refuse to recognize it. And I cannot believe how hard people are working to discount it. In South Carolina, the roads that people drive on are named for Confederate generals who fought to keep black people from being able to drive freely on that road. Thatâs insanity. Thatâs racial wallpaper. You canât allow that.
Nine people were shot in a black church by a white guy who hated them â who wanted to start some kind of civil war. The Confederate flag flies over South Carolina and the roads are named for Confederate generals. And the white guy is the one who feels his countryâs being taken away from him. Weâre bringing it on ourselves.
And thatâs the thing â Al Qaeda, all those guys, ISIS â theyâre not shit compared to the damage that we can apparently do to ourselves on a regular basis.
Make sure they are somebody who lets you cry, too. Despair will come. Find someone you want to be there through those times. Most importantly, marry the one that makes passion, love and madness combine and course through you. A love that will never dilute. Even when the waters get deep and dark.

I wasnât vaccinated and never got sick so
And I swam and didnât drown.
Anecdotes arenât evidence. The reason YOU specifically didnât get sick is because of something called Mass Immunity.
That means that since everyone ELSE is vaccinated (youâre welcome), thereâs nowhere for the virus to establish a hold. That mass immunity is the only thing that keeps people who CANNOT vaccinateâlike the immunocompromisedâfrom catching it.
The second that people stop vaccinating, that immunity disappears and the disease resurges, as is clear from the fact that the US is currently experiencing an epidemic of a disease that was projected to become extinct in our lifetimes.
Get immunized. Thereâs no reason not to.
or a adinfinitumxx:
Considering that thereâs a whole host of people in my age range who werenât vaccinated enough (even I was missing the second dose of MMR until recently) getting the measles and the mumps I think itâs ridiculous that weâre arguing over a life and death situation. Literally, do you want to live or die?
Also, even if you werenât vaccinated and never got sickâat least not visiblyâthat doesnât preclude the possibility that you picked up a virus and passed it on without knowing it.Â
Maybe you hadâŚoh, letâs say measles. But you had no symptoms. Or maybe you had a fever,  or sore eyes, or a harsh dry cough, but that was it. But nothing that said anything was seriously wrong. And in the meantime, you went about your business. Maybe you waited for a bus with an old man, or shared an aisle at the store with a pregnant woman and her wailing one-year-old, or attended a party with your friends. Â
And the disease you didnât know you had? That passed on to the people you met, or to people that they met. The disease you didnât know you had was passed to a friend at that party, and she passed it to her mother and father, they passed it to their workmates, and now two offices are sick with your measles. The old man you saw at the bus stop? He got pneumonia as a result of the measles you passed to him. The pregnant woman from the store? She miscarried. Her baby, who was too young to be vaccinated? She developed encephalitis and died.Â
Youâre not the only one whoâs being protected by your vaccination. Youâre protecting everyone else as well. Thatâs the fucking POINT of vaccination.

Kingsman: The Secret Service 2014
I read that Colin Firth did 80% of his own stunts and as impressive as it is I think the most impressive thing he did in this movie is deliver this line with a straight face.

When I was a freshman, my sister was in eighth grade. There was a boy in two of her periods who would ask her out every single day. (Third and seventh period, if I remember correctly.) All day during third and seventh she would repeatedly tell him no. She didnât beat around the bush, she didnât lie and say she was takenâshe just said no. One day, in third period, after being rejected several times, he said; âI have a gun in my locker. If you donât say yes, I am going to shoot you in seventh.â [[MORE]] She refused again, but right after class she went to the principalâs office and told them what happened. They searched his locker and there was a gun in his backpack. When he was arrested, some of my sisterâs friends (some female, even) told her that she was selfish for saying no so many times. That because of her, the entire school was in jeopardy. That it wouldnât have killed her to say yes and give it a try, but because she was so mean to him, he lost his temper. Many of her male friends said it was âgirls like herâ that made all women seem like cockteases. Wouldnât have killed her to say yes? If a man is willing to shoot someone for saying no, what happens to the poor soul who says yes? What happens the first time they disagree? What happens the first time she says she doesnât want to have sex? That she isnât in the mood? When they break up? Years later, when I was a senior, I was the only girl in my Criminal Justice class. The teacher, who used to be a sergeant in the police force, told us a story of something that had happened to a girl he knew when she was in high school. There was a guy who obviously had a crush on her and he made her uncomfortable. One day he finally gathered up the courage to ask her out, and she said no. The next day, during an assembly, he pulled a gun on her in front of everyone and threatened to kill her if she didnât date him. He was tackled to the ground and the gun was taken from him. When my teacher asked the class who was at fault for the crime, I was the only person who said the boy was. All the other kids in the class (who were all boys) said that the girl was, that if she had said yes he wouldâve never lost it and brought a gun and tried to kill her. When my teacher said that they were wrong and that this is what is wrong with society, that whenever a white boy commits a crime itâs someone elseâs fault (music, television, video games, the victim) one boy raised his hand and literally said; âBut if someone were to punch me and I punched him back, who is at fault for the fight? He is, not me. Itâs self-defence. She started it, so anything that happens to her is in reaction to her actions .Itâs simple cause and effect.â Even though he spent the rest of the calss period ripping into the boys and saying that you are always responsible for your own actions, and that women are allowed to say no and do not have to date them, they left class laughing about how idiotic he was and that he clearly had no idea how much it hurt to be rejected. So now we have a new school shooting, based solely on the fact some guy couldnât get laid, and I see men, boys, applaudin him, or if theyâre not applauding him, theyâre laying blame on women as a whole. Just like my sisterâs friends did. Just like the boys in my Criminal Justice class did. This isnât something thatâs rare. This isnât something that never happens, or that a select group of men feel as if they are so entitled to women that saying no is not only the worst possible thing a woman can do, but is considered a form of âdefenceâ when they commit a crime upon them (whether it be rape or murder-as-a-reaction-towards-rejection). Girls are being killed for saying no to prom invites. Girls are being killed for saying no to men. They are creating an atmosphere where women are too scared to say no, and the worst part is? They are doing it intentionally. They want society to be that way, they want women to say yes entirely out of fear. Even the boys and men who arenât showing up to schools with guns are saying; âWell, you know, I wouldnât do that, but you have to admit that if she had just said yes âŚâ If you are a man and you defend this guysâ actions or try to find an excuse for it, or you denounce what really happened, or in any way lay blame on women, every girl you know, every woman you love, has just now thought to themselves that you might lose your shit and kill them someday for saying no. You have just lost their trust. And you know what? You deserve to lose it.
