A moment that made Mercer realize he was starting to develop genuine feelings for Zayra was after a festival in Riften. Community events like those the perfect opportunity for guild members to pick pockets and whatnot so many are attending. She’s a social butterfly, a trait of hers he’s rather fascinated by, and had been enjoying the festivities when it started early in the evening and continued to enjoy them late into the night.

The plan was always for her to go home with him that night and when the time comes she’s a bit of a drunken mess. He expected that and even enjoys it to an extent but while walking to his house she does end up getting sick near the barrels in front of the Black-Briar house. Honestly he would’ve been amused if he didn’t have to hold her hair back. He tries to focus on how soft her hair is to ignore the gross sounds she’s making

The rest of the short walk he has to have his hands on her or else she’ll stumble and possibly fall, something he doesn’t wanna deal with. If his knees weren’t absolute shit he would’ve attempted to carry her, but there was no way he could get her up the stairs to his bed like that so he does what he has to to get her to his front door in one piece

After they’re inside he’s surprised that getting her up the stairs isn’t as hard as he imagined and she pretty much flops into his bed. He finds an empty container he wouldn’t care to get rid of and places it near the bed and tells her that he’s going to step out on his balcony for a moment so if she’s going to puke it needs to be in there or else he won’t hesitate to kick her out

He goes outside and smokes a cigarillo and starts thinking about the night overall. It’s not long before he realizes she must’ve passed out since she didn’t make her way out here like she’s done in the past so he’s not surprised when he steps back inside his room and sees her asleep after only managing to get a single boot off

What does surprise him is that he smiles at the sight. He was so annoyed with her earlier, and that’s fine, but now? He thinks it’s cute. She’s cute. So he takes her other boot off and gets her out of her dress while trying to ignore all the little noises she makes as he’s manhandling her and tries to make her comfortable in his bed

After he changes he’ll join her and read a book for a bit before attempting to fall asleep, and it ends up being one of those rare nights where he manages to fall asleep and stay asleep for a few uninterrupted hours

The next day he will be a lil mean about how hungover she is tho, he can’t be too nice or else he’ll really need to admit his feelings
