Looking at the developer interviews where they try to act as if both sides of the salmon run conflict are in the wrong (when literally all the salmonids did was defend themselves) I don't have high hopes.

And do you really think NINTENDO of all companies is going to genuinely write a story that condemns the player's actions?

For one i'm not here to say that splatoon is the pinnacle of writing or anything, they do mess up and do sloppy plot points, i'm not saying the plot of raiders will be perfect or that the treatment of salmonid slaughter will be handled well, if anything, i was already quite disappointed by the lack of salmonids in return of mammalians because its a bit wonky to fight grizz while barely mentionning the people he wronged the most.

HOWEVER there is clearly a question of intent here and while we can absolutely criticize the execution on various point, the intent is very clearly not to say salmonids are bad guys that deserve to be killed.

I do think we can talk about the racism in making a game where you invade a group’s land, steal their property, and murder them en mass, especially when said group’s culture and art is directly inspired by real world indigenous tribes

I don't think the game would've put in the effort to show the salmonids are sentient people with a culture and politics and make the main antagonist of their third game the guy who started the 'let's kill salmonids and steal their eggs' thing if we were playing as the good guys here but sure

it really grinds my gears when people use "abortion isn't murder, yuno shouldn't even be in milgram!!" as an excuse to not engage with her character... it doesn't matter what we, the audience, think about her crime when /yuno herself/ feels like she's a murderer! her inno verdicts haven't helped her because she doesn't WANT to be inno, she wants somebody to tell her she was wrong! she's a suicidal teenage girl who wanted somebody in her life to scold her for repeatedly hurting herself !!!

like, no wonder she started acting cold in t2! if i was sick with guilt over something i did, and a bunch of disembodied voices started coddling me as the most pure innocent angel in this hellprison, i'd be pissed too!!

yuno shouldn't be in milgram, but like, she's not the only one that applies to! half of them haven't committed actual murder, but the fact that people ONLY apply that logic to yuno drives me nuts. milgram doesn't judge what the law considers murder, it judges what the individual prisoner sees as murder. imo NONE of them should be in milgram bc milgram and its black & white view of 'murder' hasn't helped any of them!

i know her case won't land for everyone, but i just wish more people engaged with her character in good faith instead of dismissing her outright :-(

(i still stand by the fact that her 'crime' should've been a suicide attempt instead of 'whoops she tripped and fell', because her 'true' victim, the person she's hurt the most, is /herself/, but i digress)
