@proudplatypus
I think the shoulder pads need to be bigger.
This sounds like the worst idea ever so I wouldn’t be surprised if more developers cater to these casual babies.
If a game can be wholly experienced with a full-on tourist mode, then it really has no reason to be made as a video game at all.
there’s too much gameplay in this video game. remove it.
why do the people that get paid to play video games hate video games so much
actually, i’d really appreciate a tourist mode in a lot of games, i have a hard time using a controller and i generally give up when i can’t get past a certain point, which usually winds up being early on in the game just because my hands don’t wanna fuckin cooperate for very long for a combination of reasons
i want to be able to see the plot and characters without having to take months for what would normally be like a two-hour mission
tourist mode would be great tbh
Yeah, as a disabled person I really don’t see what tourist mode would take away from other players. Does it really bother you that people without as much skill can also enjoy a game? Personally, I have a lot of difficulty with some sequences. I really don’t see a downside here.
Wow, look at all these whiny pissbabies who can’t handle the idea that someone enjoys a video game for different reasons than they do.
Kudos to this developer. Hopefully more game devs implement similar things for their games, and games become more accessible to all people!
Also, sometimes I’m just upset that I don’t have time to look at a cool piece of graphics or landscaping like I go “Wow this building is really beautiful what is OH SHIT ZOMBIES” and I would love the ability to turn the zombies off for a second so I can look at how well made the environment is.
Gamers are like “Videogames aren’t just all about shooting people! They’re immersive works of art with complex storylines and masterful worldbuilding.”
Then when people are like “Oh okay, that’s true. Can we have a mode of the game then that doesn’t revolve around shooting people so that we can focus on taking in the art and story and world?”
Then the gamers transform into full crybaby mode and show that they literally can’t imagine a game where the focus actually is on characters, scenery, story, etc. and that they consider a game worthless and pointless without constant violence.
This line of logic is built solely around gamers who’s need for validation comes only at the chance of lording their gaming skill over others versus people enjoying the game. If they can’t feel superior to others, then they won’t enjoy themselves as much, versus having multiple modes of play so everyone can enjoy a title and it doesn’t affect either group.
Fake Geeks acting as though godmode cheats haven’t been a thing for approximately forever. It’s essentially a variation on that theme. Besides, Tourist Mode+Photomode would be the greatest thing for second or third playthroughs if you’re like me and like poking through the visual design of a level. It’s really cool that designers can pack different types of engagement into one program. I mean even the name for the mode, “tourist mode”, is telling in a really interesting way. The game is a place as much as it is anything else, which is pretty unique for a form of media.
Or, you know. You could get a rage boner because some people might dare not beat a videogame the way you want them to.
I want to reiterate, just to drive the point home, the people getting upset here are not getting upset at the prospect of a game requiring this mode of play from them. They are getting upset about the idea of this being a potentially available, utterly optional mode of play that they are in no way obligated, required or even necessarily encouraged to engage in whatsoever. (Something that wouldn’t necessarily significantly impact the content they actually want anyway, even in terms of division of resources or anything kind of abstract like that, if it even were applicable broad scale, which it may never be)
And this second response right here: ‘If a game can be wholly experienced with a full-on tourist mode, then it really has no reason to be made as a video game at all.’ This is the thing that seriously troubles me.
Why? I mean there’s certainly a good line of questioning here. What is the value a video game has for different people? What value can be obtained from the mechanical game play, the combat (because the given context pretty much assumes a game with combat or at least enemies and a damage system) and the like and what value can be obtained from the game absent of that? How is the value of video games dependent on the player? I mean it’s not like people haaven’t been asking these questions before. It’s not like video games haven’t been exploring non combat methods of story telling for like ever in one way or another anyway.
But this statement, that a video game has no business being made if it can be wholly experienced with ‘a full on tourist mode’…. that’s troubling. And I also think it’s total and complete bullshit. And really, really, really damaging to video games as a whole. It shoves video games into this box where interaction needs to be fueled by specific, set things (implicitly combat mechanics) and ‘value’ (whatever it is) needs to be obtained from that. And that’s….. limiting in a really uncomfortable way. And I could expand on this but I don’t really have my thoughts all in order to do that and it’s just really disheartening anyway.
I will say I also really like the ‘tourist mode’ term. I find that really appealing.
The concept is also freaking amazing. For like a million different reasons the accessibility reason jumping to the top of my list.

Time to employ the old phrase “dog in a manger”, I think. What on Earth is wrong with having a tourist mode available in beautifully detailed games? No one’s going to hold a gun to the overly-righteous “hardcore” gamers’ heads and make them use it.
They used to have this in games as cheats. That and I remember in rayman there was level skips that I used to see the pretty later levels. Could never finish them but it was nice to see them.
This needs to be a thing again, what happened to this thing. The only time I see it now is on some pc games where you can get access to the console.

After Garak I think Kira might be my favorite from ds9. She’s just the most bad ass.
She is badass. I don’t like garack much
I like the tragedy of Garak and how he hides it behind sarcastic wit and a smile. He never does catch that break in the end.
Kira. She's gone through so much shit and managed to come out the other side a very kind and loving person. She's just not going to let anyone walk all over her.
Just like old times but different.
