Okay so i watched Lockwood and Co. maybe a month ago, read the books, and now i'm rewatching the show for funsies, just finished the second episode, and it got me thinking a bit. There Will be spoilers for the books so beware:
That one guy from the Jacobs agency that was a "conspiracy theorist" was a really nice touch and they do acknowledge from the start that the problem gets worse no matter the agencies efforts (mmh) great forshadowing for the latter seasons, if only they HADN'T CANCELLED IT
For some reason they switch Lockwood and Lucy's dialogue, since in the book he's the one that goes "adults just get in the way" (cheeky), and Lucy very politely explains their reasoning for not having a supervisor. They also skip Lucy reprimanding Lockwood and warning him not to imitate their clients (at least while they can hear him) "You know I have an excelent ear for accents. I copy people without thinking" Idk I really wish they would have kept that childish side to him. He Is a teenage boy after all and has been unsupervised for god knows how long.
I think it would've been smarter if they'd kept the order of the objects presented as in the books: George's toothbrush cup first. Clever way to get rid of the phonies real fast.
Love that they kept a lot of the dialogues (and scenes) the same. George and Lucy's couch exchange, Lucy and Lockwood talking in the library, the library scene with Kipps, although I wish they'd've kept George's lines. He really liked to get under people's skin since day one. Sad that the actor they chose for Kipps wasn't shorter than them because they could've kept so many more lines.
Something I don't think i ever quite understood is how the Problem (a Thing only on England as far as I'm aware) affected technology development. I know, alternate universe, whatever, but around the sixties TVs and phones were already a thing, and mobile phones were developed not long after. George could at least call them with more info about jobs they're about to get into But it wouldn't be much fun then, would it?
I would have Loved! If they had at least some scenes in complete darkness. I know everyone complains about shows being too dark nowadays but an emphasis on the fact that their Talents work better in complete darkness would've been nice instead of using flashlights all the time. Like just a little scene where they wait a bit until their eyes adjust to the dark, idk.
I also would like it if the actors didn't mumble so much 😭 could barely understand a thing without subtitles.
Lucy's shitty relationship with her mom and lack of sisters got me thinking how they would've gone about the whole Holly thing because i doubt she would've willingly gone back unless it had to do with her mom dying or something Norrie related (although i read somewhere that Norrie was going to be experimented on by Rotwell ? mmh)
Nothing more i can think of for now but i might update this as i keep watching it :P
