I can totally picture Derek as a UP student

He's 100% smart enough to get in. And I like to hc that he was raised by a single mom, so I can imagine that he would try to get into UP because he doesn't want his mom to worry about tuition

And I also feel like the competitive environment would contribute significantly to his gifted kid burnout. Like he goes from being the smartest kid at his school to being in a school full of smart kids---big fish, small pond and all that
