The next time you want to call a sequence “Well animated” do yourself a favour and rewatch it with the sound muted. Often times ir’s only after you remove sound from something that you can truly see if the animation underneath is actually good or not, or if the music/acting is manipulating you.

….but on that same note, “Well animated” does not mean “Fluidly animated”. Because something can be VERY well animated and have few frames if those frames are in the right place, or have a shit ton for frames and be badly animated because it’s over-animated and moves way too much.

Why is it all anime?

Because anime tends to have a level of style consistency to a certain degree (unless you look at shows with very distinct and removed styles of their own) regardless of its actual quality of movement which makes the difference in movement much more apparent when removed from how the characters look. American animation tend to have really stylised art direction on work meant for television which is where most limited but good animation is versus work meant for full feature films which tend to lean more towards natural semi-realistic movement which generally requires fluider animation. On top of this American animation is split in half with 2D animation regulated to TV and Netflix and full feature animation being exclusively CG for some ungodly reason, and the only CG television animation being too low budget to fully showcase the movement in comparison due to budgetary restraints. On top of this trying to compare 2D television animation to CG theatrical animation is like trying to compare the difference in skill level between an actor’s acrobatics in Circe de Soleil to a Soprano’s range who specializes in traditional Wagner opera. Just because they both take place in a thatr does not mean the craft is close enough to provide an accurate measure of quality by comparing one to the other.

But fine. You want a purely western example here ya go I guess. I’ll even make them all 2D to make it easier
