kind of a dumb question, but who do you imagine achilles and patroklos to look like?
Not a dumb question. I was excited to answer this one. Keep in mind these are my personal interpretations so they’re of course 100% correct.
Ancient source-wise, I go by the descriptions in the Iliad and Philostratus’ description in On Heroes because they match my interpretations.
Achilles’ hair is thick, lovelier than gold, and becoming no matter where and how either the wind or he himself may move it. His nose is not quite aquiline, but almost so; his brow is crescent-shaped. The spirit in his eyes, which are bluish-gray, casts off a certain eagerness even when he is still; when he is rushing on, they spring out along with his purpose, and then he seems more lovely than ever to those who cherish him. (On Heroes, 48.2)
Patroklos had an olive complexion, black eyes, and sufficiently fine eyebrows, and he commended moderately long hair. His head stood upon his neck as the wrestling schools cultivate. His nose was straight, and he flared his nostrils as eager horses do. (On Heroes, 49.3)
“…there stood Patroklos tall at the threshold, vivid as a god…” (Iliad, 11.761-2)
Oh yeah we’re getting some ancient sources up in this bitch because I can’t and won’t change my nature.
I also made some simple character design sheets for them because I’m extra and like to draw. Here we go.
Blond. This is a given. #blond(e)ambition
Needs to be feminine enough for the whole Skyros episode.
Twunk vibes (pretty but ripped)
Pointy, “almost aquiline” nose.
Wavy, thick hair. Dramatically windblown at Troy and according to Philostratus he never had a bad hair day so more power to him. What a legend
Real talk: When I draw Achilles I reference a bit/a lot from my own face and a few random actors because a. I’m a narcissist and b. in the graphic novel series Age of Bronze Achilles literally has my face + bigass black eyebrows so I think I’m allowed to at this point (also read those graphic novels- they’re well drawn and good)
Has the look that only one man is standing between him and going balls-to-the-walls crazy dragging a corpse around and performing human sacrifice
The man the myth the legend (Patroklos):
Patroklos has facial hair. This is not debatable.
Long. Haired. Achaeans. I’m sick of short-haired Patroklos (yes, classical vases I’m looking at you too). They all were rocking long hair in the Iliad. I will settle for nothing less. This was legit the only thing that shit Troy movie with Brad Pitt got right
Mr. “Sufficiently Fine” Eyebrows looking fine
I didn’t draw whole body sheets, but he and Achilles are the same height for very obvious plot-necessary reasons. Going by the Iliad, neither of them were manlets, sorry Alexander my condolences
Under-eye circles because he’s been at Troy for 10 years and is sick of this shit
@Peleus: “Your daughter son calls me daddy too”
We love a kind-hearted Bi-icon
