they were both pretty well aware of mira's origins, or at least what she said to the public. rome went on a whole tirade of research for a bit, and abby tried to help by pressing jinu. both of them ended up at their own short ends, but it gave them enough to work on. still, they were always more interested in learning more about her from her. knew far too well that fabrication and sugarcoating was the norm in the idol business. before demons, they were idols too, after all. ironically, now they were idols again.

"oh, what a coincidence, we love pink too!" abby was quick to add, smiling knowingly. even if they'd begun to dye their hair different colours, there was a reason why both of them ended up with pink during their initial resurrection. aside from wanting to match, of course. didn't intrude on more of her stories, though, listened as she mentioned celine.

"so celine recruited you specifically?" rome asked, genuinely interested. "what were you doing before that?"

abby grinned despite the way he shrugged. "aw, i could just buy you a new one! c'mon." leaned in a little closer, enough that he could take a whiff of her, was definitely a bit bolder than his boyfriend, so dared to breach a little more.

rome perked up. "shopping's perfect actually! then we all can wear the same thing."

"won't have to worry about stretching your hoodies too," abby teased.

rome looked down at his phone and grinned, an idea coming up in his head. knew they'd be pretty free in the upcoming weeks as jinu figured out the logistics of SAJA, leaving the rest to do what he called 'readjustment'.

"actually we're packed tomorrow. got some recordings to attend," rome interrupted abby, shooting him a glance, "so i think we can only spare today, mira."

"yeah! yeah, sorry 'bout that doll. we, uh- super busy working on a comeback."

logically, she knew she wasn't exactly being interrogated and that they were just interested in her, but mira couldn't help the grumble that rumbled in her throat. jaw clenched slightly at the questions that kept coming. "i was a trainee and before that i was a dancer and before that i was in school." her tone slightly exasperated. "what about you two? what did you do before... all of this?"

she swallowed thickly and frowned slightly at abby as he leaned in, a little too close for comfort. it gave her a brief second to catch the cologne or body wash that wafted off of him, and mira reluctantly found it pleasant.

her eyes narrowed at them. mira couldn't help but keep her guard up around these two. not that they were dangerous but she still wasn't entirely trusting of them yet. wasn't entirely sold on this plan to lean into their "ship" either but that was already a moot point.

"i can't believe i have to give up couch time for this," she growled softly. she let out a small huff and rolled her eyes. "fine. today then. let's go so we can get this done with."

"i'm open to whatever you come up with." lou grinned, their run petering down to a walk, still carrying her in their arms, just wandering up the hill now. could hear hummingbird thrum of her heart against their body, almost as if it was their own. the warmth of her against them and the sun felt magical — almost like they were alive again. "i'll always find you. like you found me." the incline was easy for them their usual route, but it took on a new light, literally, as they took it this time. she beamed at them, a rosy sheen blooming across her cheeks as sylvia stared up at her paramour. couldn't believe at times how they had come to be together. "we found each other," she corrected, voice chirpy with a light giggle threading through her words. her eyes narrowed at them as she leaned in close until their noses nearly brushed against one another. "i'll give you a challenge." carefully, she shifted until her feet were squarely back on the ground. "but you have to wait a little longer before you start running! it's just not fair to me!"

Stella let out a delighted laugh as she settled back into the passenger seat, the slushie already turning her tongue an alarming shade of blue. "A beach? That's dangerously close to sounding like a real plan," she teased, tilting her head to look at Dara, her grin softening just a little around the edges. "Next thing I know, you'll be suggesting we build a sandcastle together and talk about our feelings." She took another sip of her slushie, letting the artificial sugar and cold sting settle against the back of her throat before she glanced over at Dara again. "But yeah, we can go to the beach. A sunset with you sounds like a pretty damn good way to spend the rest of the day." The car rumbled to life, the hum of the engine weaving into the easy silence between them. Stella nudged the snack bag with her foot and pulled it open, grabbing a bag of chips and tossing it into the other's lap. She let her head fall back against the headrest, hoodie sleeves tucked into her palms, watching the sky outside shift into deeper shades of gold and rose. "I still can't believe you’re doing this with me," she murmured softly, mostly to herself. "I don't think I've ever felt this much like myself before. Not since... I don't even know when." A moment of silence passed before she looked over again with a teasing smile, trying not to linger too long in the serious. "Anyway, you better hope that beach is real and not just some weird mirage, because if it's not, I'm going to make you freestyle a song about it over ukulele chords and ocean sound effects." She reached over and turned up the volume on the playlist they'd been shuffling through. "Alright, captain. Let's chase that sunset."

dara felt the corner of her lips quirk before offering stella a halfhearted shrug. "merely a suggestion." plans weren't part of the agenda for this trip; the goal had been to simply get in the car and drive and drive until they forgot about the lives they left behind. at least for a few days before stella's managers and team began tracking them down. "i would never dare suggest something so serious as talking about our feelings." the grin as playful as the nudge against the singer's arm. "save all that for your next album."

once they were all situated, dara let the car roar back to life and drove out of the gas station. they got back onto the road and she drove with the intent of reaching the shores, chasing the sun before it dipped below the horizon. "you called. how could i not pick up?" dara briefly glanced over, this smile sincere and void of any teasing. even if their relationship had never been this serious, never got into the nitty gritty of exclusivity or labels, dara felt a strong connection to stella. felt protective of her. "that sounds like torture for the both of us. the last time you tried to make me sing, i swore you winced at how badly i sounded." | @sugartclking

"could do without the next three hours of small talk and forced laughter," he added. he’d trade them for a cigarette and a warm car. "but i’ll live. not only do you shield me from boredom, but you keep the vultures from circling. you’re like… an exotic bird of prey," he shared, meant as a compliment, steering toward the narrow flagstone steps down to the lower lawn. halfway down, he slowed, watching his footing in the dark. cold and dew slicked the old stones. he kept his arm locked and steady, making sure juliet didn’t slip as they reached the bottom. he squeezed her hand, more relief than chivalry, that neither one of them twisted an ankle in the process. "victorious," he said, smiling at her, "survived another perilous descent."

she grinned, feeling satisfied in seeing the immediate difference in her husband's composure. noticed the way his shoulders relaxed and the tension in his body melt away. the echoes of the party a backdrop to their private moment alone. "shall i pretend to faint?" juliet teased. "fake an emergency so that you simply must leave this exhausting party and take care of your beloved wife?" it was a last resort, but she liked to see xavier return to himself after putting up a front with all of those people. "whatever would i do without my knight in shining armor?" she remarked as she took the final step, her hold tight on his arm. they followed the path throughout the garden, towards a fountain just before the sunset. "however, if we must return back to the throes of fake smiles and small talk, at least let us fully enjoy the garden before duty inevitably calls."
