i decided to try to do a design challenge where i took the descriptions from this 'bad mlp oc diagnostic manual' and tried to make characters based on that general idea, except with them being designs that i really quite like and that fit within my repertoire. see larger images of the characters, a more detailed explanation, and the original meme below the cut! <3

SOOO...i saw the original meme on twitter and thought it would be a lot of fun to try and make my own version. essentially, i began with the princess (who has a name, but im not sharing quite yet!) and it sort of spiraled into a new 'generation' i suppose. i had the idea to try to make them sort of a rainbow, which was somewhat difficult, and led to some of these designs being NOT COMPLETELY what i had in mind...but what really got me hooked was an idea i had for the 'liek dis if u cry evry time' design, which was essentially spike & twilight, where a baby dragon is raised by a pony, except with the baby dragon being more like a pet/pokemon at first, and with more angst regarding the pony who finds the baby dragon REALLY not wanting a baby dragon. so the pony (probably delight or buttons?) gets help from a friend and more and more ponies are curious about the baby dragon. they travel together to the princess' castle, where the princess and melody are, and the princess agrees to help them find the baby dragon's real family. however, at that time, the baby dragon has begun to speak, and both she and the pony that found her have grown quite close. they decide, instead, to go meet clover's real family, and see if clover wants to go with them or stay with the pony, but at that point, it seems pretty obvious what will happen. ANYWAY, i dont think anyone else would do this design challenge, but i included the original image for reference if anyone does!

im completely obsessed with the day in the life photography series of books, i cant find any galleries of the photos online (YET) but they are these amazing projects organized by rick smolan in the 80s where 100~ photographers went all over japan, hawaii, the USSR, canada, and took photos over the course of 24 hours. they are gorgeous humanist snapshots of daily life and i really highly recommend looking them up at your local library!!
