Friendly reminder that Mohinder tested on/tortured unwilling human subjects, kidnapped his friends and cocooned them to a wall. Then nobody brought it up after some time had passed as if it was no big deal.

Mohinder sure did some fucked up things… He has a hard seeing past Science and honestly it disgusts me thinking about those experiments.

IN FAIRNESS TO MOHINDER, because he’s my mother’s favourite, the caccooning stuff and his actions after injecting himself might not totally be his fault? In the way that Peter getting Sylar’s power and immediately murdering his brother shows that the serial killing seems to be an impulse from the power itself. It is canon that sometimes the powers come with some nasty side effects.

His story is particularly heartbreaking <3 It almost feels like it doesn’t belong in Heroes because it’s so dark compared to the way the show usually tackles its issues.

Naw, Heroes had a track record of truly horrific, shitshow stuff that they just panned the camera over and continued on as though it hadn’t happened.

Adam Monroe being trapped in a coffin with a corpse, buried alive for months, played for laughs

Claire Bennet’s repeat suicide attempts and constant self-harm being treated as normal exploration of her ability

Peter Petrelli being trapped in a shipping container wearing only pants, handcuffed to the wall in a stress position where he couldn’t lie down or sit comfortably, for a 10-12 day journey on the North Sea during winter, no food, water, light, or human interaction, right after his memory had been wiped to the point that he didn’t even know his own name

Hiro time-traveling to arrange a marriage between his sister and his best friend without consulting either of them about it

Trapping people in their worst nightmare FOREVER (or until they died of natural causes) - prolonged, ongoing, lethal mental torture portrayed as something you got over the moment you woke up

I mean, it’s weird. The show made a huge deal of certain plot points - Claire growing up not knowing her true parents, Sylar … well, all of that, Peter being lied to by his family (as though the lies were the important part - not the being shot, interred, blown up, or the North Sea thing), Noah having Sandra’s mind wiped until she had brain problems and fixated on their dog as the only constant in her life, etc. These were front-and-center plot elements. But then other elements that were WORSE are just glossed over.

It was so engrossing for fanfic! Because there are all these deep, riveting emotional reactions I wanted to write the characters having.

Yeah you’re right! Which is exactly why Jeremy’s story felt different to me.

His was one issue that they didn’t pan over or try to portray as not as horrific as it was. Considering the record of other traumas that were quickly dismissed over the seasons, I was surprised that they really let Jeremy’s story play out and showed how awful people can be and how heartbreaking it was </3
