Word had spread to Konoha about power in a faraway land that possessed properties to the chakra used by shinobi. This power was known as Magic and came in a variety of different ways. This was intriguing to Jiraiya, who pondered whether it could be linked back to the history of chakra and if these properties were one and the same. The prospect of travelling to a faraway land was also enticing and his penchant for long journeys made him the perfect candidate to investigate.

It took him a few days to actually begin his mission. Once he had arrived in Magnolia, it was hard not to integrate himself into the culture of the town and its guild: Fairy Tail. He spent many days drinking there and eyeing up the beautiful women who belonged to the guild. Mirajane Strauss had caught his attention most of all. There was no time limit on this mission of his, which allowed this freedom. It allowed him to become a familiar face within the guild, a place bustling with laughter, camaraderie, and raucous energy nearly every day.. Eventually, the Sannin explained his mission to the master of the guild who himself was quite intrigued. It was suggested that Jiraiya work alongside one of the guild's strongest members. Unsurprisingly, he was quick to seek out the S-Class Mage who had already captured his attention.

"Looks like we'll be working together for a bit," Jiraiya said with a grin, handing the assignment from Master Makarov to Mirajane. "Seeing as you know more about this place than I do, I'll leave myself in your capable hands, Mirajane."
