Here we go.
Now that I’m done frantically taking things out of my bags in an effort to lighten my load as much as possible, taking breaks to lie down and give in briefly to the crippling hangover from last night (I had a hair appointment at noon and may or may not have needed to be excused to puke in the bathroom at one point), standing in the different spots in my room with my hands on my hips looking into space and trying to remember if I forgot anything, and checking, double checking, and triple checking my multiple lists, I AM HERE.
Here meaning the airport. In Denver. (Little steps). Here’s what the itinerary is looking like:
Today Justin and I fly to Boston and crash in a hotel by the airport. Our flight to Reykjavik doesn’t take off until 6:30 pm the next day, so thankfully we’ll get to have a full day of bag rearranging and getting ready before we head to the airport. We land in Reykjavik on May 2 and get to spend a couple days together in the city, then we head out to the remote fishing village of Bíldudalur (population coming in hot at 166). This little cabin is where Justin is going to be spending the whole month, so after a week up there I’ll get a ride back to Reykjavik to take off on my solo adventure. From there, I only have one week of committed lodging, so after that I really have no idea where I’ll be. I was thinking of heading to Copenhagen or the Faroe Islands, but I don’t think I can make that call until I see what the area has to offer. Towards the end, my mom is going to come visit for a week (I’m saving all of the touristy stuff for that visit) and then J and I will link back up and finish the journey up together.
Phew. It’s really hard to believe that this is the step that kicks this whole adventure into motion. I can already tell that this whole blogging regularly thing is going to be something that I have to consciously remind myself to do, but I promise to do my best. I bet it will get easier when I have more stuff to write about.
But for now, the boarding line beckons and I must go.
