Hey so I’m on page 394 of Great, Big, Beautiful Life by Emily Henry…..
Would’ve just LOVED a warning for the last 100 pages I just read.
Me: *deletes 95% of social media off my phone over a month ago*
Also me: *managed to devour 3 books in one month*
This is the first time I’ve ever been able to do this and write reviews for fun for each of them.
Take back your attention span. Now.
Read 3 sad gal books back-to-back this month (DJATS, The Women, Malibu Rising) and that is my sign to read another Emily Henry novel.
gutted that they cut the hotel scene with Camila and Daisy where she tells Daisy what she needs to hear and about how her favorite song by the band was the one Daisy wrote because it reminded her of her first love and how it hurt because she couldn't have it but that's why she loved it so much and how it was that push from Camila that inspired Daisy to leave the band and finally get sober and therapy like that was my favorite scene in the book
okay i actually love the conflict between billy and eddie and the way it's written.
billy is always like "yeah i remember saying something to eddie. probably something isn't nice. i shouldn't have said it i think"
and eddie is like "yeah it was june 17th 1974 at 11:49 pm he said to me and i quote i have it written right here he said "fuck you"
just finished funny story i have no words miles nowak healed me
Miles is so Nick Miller coded.
Might be controversial, but I think the friendship and lavender marriage between Evelyn Hugo and Harry Cameron is more beautiful, heartbreaking and heartwarming than the relationship between Evelyn and Celia.
LETS TALK ABOUT IIIIIIT
I don't know how long ago I read this book but from time to time I still think about this scene, so have a Celia pov.
This book was such a fun ride so naturally here’s my bodice ripper cover of it
Tomi Adeyemi really said "you cannot be a good leader of a system that is oppressive and exploitative by design. even those with the purest intentions will be corrupted by trying to change such an institution from within" and I personally think that's metal as fuck
It's bothering me so bad that there's not enough people being furious about Amandla Stenberg being cast as Amari when anyone who read the damn book knows that her having a dark complexion compared to the rest of her family is the first thing we learn about her character.
When I saw the casting I went “uuuuuuuum hm?” from that

Appreciation/concern for morphine Malcolm
He retains his wit, his philosophical streak, that soft side, and his usual disregard for the gender binary, lol.
Eve Babitz would’ve loved Brat summer
How a Reading Journal Came to my Book-ish Rescue
Bibliophile honesty: I finished my first book in months. Practically half a year. Utter disappointment within myself has been hanging above my head. That little voice saying “Seriously, you finally have time after graduating college and this is what you did?”
Usually people will tell you that you have to find that one book that will pull you out of such a reading slump. I rejected that. My mindset was “how can I make this fun again?” I became one of those people who let Goodreads and BookTok somewhat ruin my relationship to reading. Goodreads became like a calorie tracking app to me; I became focused on the numbers and not the journey.
I wiped out most of my reading list and only kept books that I physically owned in my home on that list to keep me focused on reading those first. That was my first call to action. There needed to be something more that could let me really “brain dump” that didn’t involve a smartphone or a computer.
Behold: a free navy blue moleskin journal I received from my job that brought me where I am today.
Brain dumping in my personal journal is therapeutic for me as is. Now imagine that but right after reading 30-40 pages of a book you’re deep into. It has made me look forward to reading again. So much so that I’m actively going to libraries in the middle of the day again on my days off from work to enjoy my leisure time.
The most crucial part of this experience is that it is getting me off my f*cking phone.
My screen-time has been too high for my liking. Social media has become a menace in my life, fanfiction is not what it used to be to thoroughly enjoy, and I have only so many YouTubers to enjoy with their niche content. I don’t even want to watch a new television show because I feel guilty that I’m not doing something better for myself. Solution: a journal where I can rant and express myself freely about a book I’m currently reading.
To all: take back your attention spans in ways you know will work adequately for how your brain works. That alone is a work in progress, but at least the ball will start rolling and that’s a start.
