“I don’t know for sure, yet- I’m still… searching, I guess.”
"Searching for what exactly? If you have something that you really enjoy-- then shouldn't that be your thing?"
“Many things aren’t exactly… my thing. Sports are very much included into that.”
"Well then-- what exactly is your thing?"
GREAT HALL || JAN 4 1977
The absolute best part about quidditch victories for someone who didn’t give a damn about the game itself — were the after parties. But once those in the common room shifted their conversations back to mechanics of the game and James took it upon himself to break out into a long-winded bragging session, she knew it was time to leave. There was no point in her spoiling their fun with her general disinterest in quidditch. They all had the right to enjoy their victory.
Within minutes, Mary found herself in the Great Hall, which, of course, was still buzzing with talk of the recent game. She was content with the idea of sitting on her own with her book, but then she spotted Hestia a table away. Smiling slightly, she approached the girl, overhearing her muttering. “Incredibly tempted now to brew one myself and slip it into Jame’s drink at some point. I could do with an hour or two of him succumbing to a deep sleep.”
"If you want that sort of effect, then you need to be sure to put in extra amounts of..." She paused before squinting at the page in front of her. Her brown eyes studied the ingredients that were carefully spelled out on the page. "Powdered moonstone, porcupine quills, and unicorn horn.. apparently too much can cause the drinker to go into a deep sleep," She commented. That actually might be a blessing to the castle when it came to James Potter-- especially with his current win. There was no doubt in her mind that the boy would be gloating for quite some time after his victory and quite a few students could do without the headache. She pushed the thoughts of actually using it to the back of her mind before snapping the book in front of her shut, figuring that she could use a break from studying for Potions. "I suppose that I should say Congratulations on your team's win," She said, glancing over at Mary with a small smile. She picked up the goblet of Pumpkin Juice that she'd set on the table and took a small drink before speaking again. "Though-- I'm not the biggest fan of Quidditch," Hestia admitted. She never exactly knew why-- though she supposed that her lack of skill on a broom had something to do with it. But, she supposed that she always found sports activities just a bit mindless. It had more to do with physical strength rather than strength of the mind. In other words, Hestia often had a bit of an unfair disadvantage being born to only be just a little over five foot.
“I’ll never understand the actual appeal at it, honestly.”
"I guess that it has the same appeal as any other sporting event-- there's just something about coming together to rally for your team. Not that I would know that feeling. I've never been much into any kind of sports."
“Not upset that he didn’t catch it, necessarily— just… upset because now I have to listen to my friends complain about not winning.”
"Such a pointless thing to be upset about, don't you think? Quidditch. But-- I suppose that the game did help some to get their minds off of things at the very least."
“Why am I not surprised?”
"Are you also upset about poor Regulus's inability to catch the snitch? Or are you referring to something else?"
"I have doubts he can hide from me and yet practice for the next match so he wouldn’t commit such amateurish mistakes. And he shouldn’t even try that because it is only going to make things worse."
"It was just one loss, Emma. I'm sure your team will make up for it in due time. No need to take it out on poor Regulus."
If you see Regulus Arcturus Black can you be nice enough to let him know I’m going to murder him? Painfully.
"Well-- I doubt that I will see him. If he's wise, he's hiding far far away from you."
Black Lake ↛ December 31, 1976.
"Yes, magic can fix anything, but that doesn’t mean they should act like pigs. Guess my expectations are too high again." And they were in most of times, yet he never saw a group of Slytherins throwing up in a broom closet. Maybe all of them were just better at hiding their tracks. Even Evan himself had few uncomfortable moments when under the influence of alcohol — and some very pleasant ones, but he won’t think about that now. Still, liquor never made him act foul and he couldn’t help but look at all those other beast with hidden disgust. Or maybe not so hidden one. Magic, though. Muggles had their religions and saints, and wizards had magic. The only thing worth praising, worth believing in, worth fighting for.
He listened to the unknown girl with something close to interest. It always amused him how other students complained Snakes were prejudiced when in reality all of them were. For Merlin’s sake, they were sorted. They were different, so different that an Eagle could never understand Badger’s naivety or Lion Snake’s determination. “Good, I’m not either. Things would go much easier if everyone at Hogwarts shared our opinion.” Much easier for him, that is. But only true challenges interested him — to relish upon all the little lambs he lured into his web of deceits. All of them ended up trapped eventually, and he enjoyed breaking them piece by piece, word by word. “I’ve gotten used to them by now, but that doesn’t mean I won’t use the chance to escape the whole thing, obviously. I even daresay I’m more comfortable with staying up here with you, even though I don’t actually know anything about you, miss Jones.” And, at the moment, that was somewhat truthful. Raising a brow at her words, he smiled and flicked his wand. Soon a glass appeared and he poured the liquor in it, handing it over to her once he did. And with another spell he made the empty cigarette pack beside him burn with the lightest of flames, bringing warmth to the two of them. “You surprise me, Hestia Jones. C’mon, tell me a bit about yourself and maybe both of us can look foward to having one friend more.”
"Can you exactly blame them for acting like pigs?" She questioned, raising a brow. Turning towards him, the small brunette tilted her head at him curiously and studied him for a few minutes with her dark eyes. "After all-- most of them are pretty ah-- heavily influenced at the moment." Though-- it wasn't like she would know just how the alcohol that her fellow peers had consumed was currently effecting them. But, being quite observant, she did notice that the majority of them were acting quite different than they usually would. She also assumed that most of them wouldn't want to drink a substance that would keep them relatively sane-- especially given the current circumstances.
Things would go much easier if everyone at Hogwarts shared our opinion.
There was a part of her that was certain that he wasn't meaning himself and Hestia. Yet-- she didn't quite comment on the fact that she believed he only meant that for himself. Instead, she simply shrugged her shoulders and chose only to make a vague yet truthful comment. "I 'spose that it would but the world would be far less interesting if everyone went along like an obedient dog." There was nobody that could deny that. It would certainly be a dull, lifeless world to live in to have everyone marching to the beat of the same drummer. Though-- she supposed that that would be ideal for some of those that lived in the Wizarding world. After all, that was what they clung to, wasn't it? Tradition, purity, s a m e n e s s.
She couldn't help but start to feel skeptical at the boy's words. After all-- she was never someone that people felt comfortable with nor surprised by. She supposed that the later could be true. Often, the truthfulness that spilled from her mouth was enough to shock even her proud housemates. But, she never had found someone that felt comfortable in her presence. She took a small sip of the Firewhiskey almost immediately scrunching her nose when she felt it start to burn the back of her throat. It was a strange feeling. She didn't quite know how to describe it. Pleasant, but strange at the same time. Taking another small, cautious sip of the Firewhiskey, she then turned her attention back to the male beside her. "How do I surprise you exactly?" She questioned curiously.

"The potion known as the Draught of Peace is used for the relief of anxiety and agitation... side effects of can include a deep sleep if the user overdoes the ingredients....the ingredients includes.." Hestia muttered to herself as her eyes scanned over the book in front of her. Nervously, she chewed on the bottom of the quill in her mouth as she read tuning out her surroundings completely as she tried to ready herself for the upcoming exam.

Marlene was already sitting at the table, holding her head between her hands. She looked up when Hestia sat down, “Ugh, I know.” She sighed, “And they’re all out of hangover potions. Horrible management.”
Of course. It would be her bloody luck that the first time she ever decided to have a little fun that they'd run out of hang over potion. She groaned as she buried her face in her hands almost mirroring the pose that Marlene had from before. If her head wasn't pounding so badly, then she maybe could've tried to figure out how to concoct the potion herself. But-- then, she wouldn't really need it in the first place. She sighed before lifting her head back up to look at Marlene. "This-- this is why I've never gotten drunk before," She announced, before taking a small sip of coffee.

♧: MY CHARACTERS REACTION IF YOURS EVER EXPRESSED ROMANTIC INTEREST IN MINE
I suddenly have deja vu back to the first date nervousness thing when Mary was giving her her Christmas present. Hah. Anyways~~~ I'm pretty sure that Hestia would be shocked and nervous just like she would be if anyone admitted she liked her. She's not really good with people, so she hasn't exactly been out on too many dates. Plus, it would be insane to her that someone like Mary liked her when she was well her.
⊗: FOR MY OOC THOUGHTS ON YOUR CHARACTER
Oh my gosh! Maryyyy! I love Mary so much! But, really? Who don't I love here at BYS? Everyone just writes such flawless and amazing characters that it makes it hard not to love them. Anywho-- I really like how Mary is this girl that tries to put up this tough outer exterior. She's this girl that tries to live in the moment and not let the things that are falling apart around her bother her. Even though--- she's a Muggle. She's the one that should be bothered the most. But-- she tries to live her life carefree and not let the world get to her. She bottles up her emotions to the point of destruction-- even around those that she feels comfortable letting her emotions go around. I just--- ugh. I can't even put my Mary MacDonald feels into words, okay?

❖: MY CHARACTERS PERSONAL THOUGHTS ON YOURS
So— I believed that we discussed that they do have some sort of friendship going on. With that being said, I see Hestia honestly enjoying Remus’s company even though I can see that often time being shared in mutual silence. I think that she would, however, not really appreciate it if he ever let James or Sirius slip on any of the rules as she is quite the stickler for them. She also wouldn’t be too afraid to tell him that he shouldn’t be giving special privileges to his friends. Sorry, she can be a bit of a stick in the mud. Overall though, I think that she would hold respect for Remus. She would definitely appreciate that she can hold intelligent conversations with him. Though-- she would be a little inquisitive about where he disappeared too from time to time.. however I highly doubt that she would ask.

"What’s unfortunate is that there’s always going to be the extremes who ruin it for the rest of us. Including the possibility of mourning. The fiends. I can’t stand them all sometimes." She huffed in frustration and put down her quill so that she might begin to braid her hair. Close to the scalp, pulling strands forward, weaving it together into a tight curtain to rest upon her shoulder. "Everyone has to ruin something." And here she was, wearing a Muggle jumper still because she was protesting out against the Death Eaters and their shenanigans and this was how she could do it for the time being. Because she had been presented with two options: either hide away behind robes and pretend as though her heritage didn’t exist, or profess it openly, have nothing to remain secret. She chose the latter. Lily Evans was not embarrassed of where she came from.
"But we continue on, as we should." It dismissed the topic of conversation. She didn’t want to dwell upon what happened or allow herself to be overwrought with the images of the bloodied, disfigured, faceless girl with the red hair who could’ve been her. It was providing her with a high enough amount of nightmares without it being present in her waking hours as well. "I think the day Professor Binns decides to make something exciting is the day that the world truly ends." She turned her voice as dramatic as possible, making wiggly fingers in the air as though casting a spell. "I don’t think that voice could change intonation even if it wanted to." Pausing, she thought to herself for a moment. Then, thought it aloud. "What’s baffling is that we could be talked about in that class. As a part of history for newer generations."
Instead of drawing out the conversation, Hestia simply kept quiet on it for the few moments that Lily needed to voice her frustrations. If she was being honest, she didn't really want to dwell on the topic of the body that had appeared next to her Christmas meal. It was certainly an unsettling topic to dwell on. It was already bad enough that she seemed to see the girl every single time that her eyes fluttered shut except she'd be replaced in turn with one of her Muggle relatives. Thankfully, she didn't seem to want to much dwell on the topic either-- though she doubted that many Muggleborn or Half-Blood much wanted to talk about it. They, at least, had that as a mutual sort of understanding between them.
"Oh-- definitely!" She said, nodding enthusiastically. She let out a small giggle before speaking up again, "We would have to alert the Daily Prophet of our impending doom." At her final thought, her lips made a thin line in response. She honestly hadn't ever thought about it in that way. She had made all these plans for the future, but she had never actually thought of the possibility of them coming true. The truth was that when it all boiled down to it; Hestia Jones just didn't have that much confidence in herself. "I-- I never thought of it like that," She admitted, feeling a light blush start to flush her cheeks, "I just-- never thought I would actually end up in a History book."
