“ it was one of the other noble kingdoms, so i'm not surprised you know of it. ” as a former lord before becoming a pirate, he had heard of the other kingdoms with kings and queens. this one had quite the legend behind it as well. lisandro remembered the tales of the wicked sea witch and the merfolk that found love on land. it wasn't until he visited the place himself and became quite acquainted with eric that he understood the allure. recalling that turned his gaze from the dock over to the castle, causing him to smirk a little.
the frustration coming from the prince was evident. he didn't have to have a good read on people to see that. so, when he was finally approached, he lifted his left hand and draped it over florian's shoulder. he gave it a gentle squeeze, wanting to reassure the sheriff somehow. everything would work out, they would just have to be a little more patient.
“ i didn't live here, but i came across it once or twice on water. ” he licked his lips as he fondly thought about the memories there. “ the prince at the time was named eric. he was a real big people person. highly involved some would say. ”
then, he let his hand drop from the other monarch he was speaking with. “ where we are is evident. in front of eric's castle, across the water from motunui. what happened to us? magic seems to be at paly. how to find a path back home? i think for now, you might as well sleep on that one. you don't need to have all of the answers. ”
prince eric ... tirulia ... a kingdom by the sea. though memories of his former life remained fragmented before him—some still incomplete puzzles with missing pieces—he was at least beginning to recognize the names. the exact faces of the prince and this kingdom were still a blur in his mind, but he did remember attending a wedding for a prince by that name, whose betrothed possessed a head of striking red hair. he knew he was still missing several crucial details, but he took comfort in knowing he was grounded in a realm he remembered as safe. he could finally breathe a little easier.
armed with this knowledge, florian turned his gaze toward the castle perched at the edge of the cliff. even from this distance, he could tell it was silent and abandoned—perhaps waiting for the eventual return of its royals and citizens. the thought immediately turned his mind back to his own people, or at least those from pellar's town. it couldn't possibly be just the two of them here, right? there had to be others scattered across the island. and if he was here, alive and whole... could his king be here, too? his heart. his snow white.
as if propelled by his longing heart, his feet began moving toward the fortress, tuning out the other man's words. " you think i can just rest in a place like this? i'm certain we aren't the only ones here. i need to find them ... and we need to figure out a way home, " he called back, stealing only a single glance over his shoulder. " i'm heading up to the castle. you're free to follow if you'd like. "
vincent tended to not take too many things seriously. his job, however, was not one of those things. when he promised next day delivery if they paid the fee? he delivered. it wasn't like amazon when the package still delivered a day or two later. vincent had woken up before the sun was even up to get most of that day's deliveries done. and now? he was on his last one. he knocked on the door, and grinned as he took in the rather beautiful sight in front of him.
“oh, it's no problem darling,” vincent assured as he carefully gave the other man the package, mentally pouting when the other man put the package in front of his boxers so vincent wasn't able to get that good of a view anymore. “when someone pays that cute little fee for next day delivery? i make sure to get it done.” he says with a grin. when the other offered him breakfast and coffee, vincent almost swooned right then and there. “hell yes. well-i mean, no. i haven't had either. and i wouldn't be opposed to getting some here if that's okay with you?” he said with a grin.
" and that's exactly why this town runs the way it does. imagine if you weren't here—we'd all be in chaos, " florian laughed, as the last vestiges of sleep finally left him: his eyes finally clearer and his voice not as hoarse as it was before ... which also meant that he was now much more aware of what was happening. still holding the package in that strategic place, he reached back to take a spare bathrobe from the coat hanger by his door. it didn't really help much, but at least if there were eyes watching them, the talk wouldn't be too much about the fact that people could see his dick this early in the morning.
nodding, he then walked back inside his apartment, motioning for vincent to follow. an offer he regretted the moment he saw the state of the place: perhaps he had gotten a little too overboard with his new obsession, as his apartment was now stacked with books and documents. it was as if he had taken the entire pellar's town library and put it in his house. he sighed. " come on. am i the last delivery you have today? i can at least fix you up a cup of coffee. " he made a beeline to the kitchen then, which was not safe from the chaos either. " just ... don't mind the mess. i'm doing a personal project. you want anything else with your coffee? "

📩 HONESTY SATURDAY ! reblog this if your inboxes are open to receiving honesty hour asks. feel free to ask anything to my muses and they'll be as honest as possible. * if it's more of an internal monologue and not open knowledge, please make this known somehow.
the scene in front of him had matai pleasantry surprised that the little college athlete with a heart of gold had still made his way to the island as well. “ uhh, joseph. were you always this strong? ” it surprised him immensely to see him like a dog with a bone dragging branches far larger than he was as though they were twigs.
“ wait. ” a hand was raised as though to give them both of a moment to think and figure out what actually needed to be done. was pellar still even an option? matai doubted it but he didn't want to crush the boy's dreams so soon when he was feeling inspired to help. “ we can probably find some carving tools. ” looking back up towards the castle after already being down near the shore where they could've worked in peace. “ are you trying to get back to pellar? you're not interested in where you were before then? ” emphasis on the words to help the barefoot and shirtless youth that matai had always loved to meet and see throughout town but never seeing how attractive joseph had been. it was a welcomed distraction from a certain demigod, that was for sure.
“ we can figure it out, but like… what do you want, joe? ” matai would start there and hope joe knew what he wanted to do and if not, they could figure all that out together.
joseph could only shrug as a response to that, regarding the question without much of a thought. after all, what would be the point of it, truly? he had been replaying the same question in his head a million times now, and try as he might, his brain couldn't come up with an explanation. besides, he was helping! he wasn't being a burden to either of them while they were stuck there. did it really matter why he was this strong?
" i dunno. i just saw the tree and was like 'oooh, i can carry that.' and then i did! i wanted to carry another one, but my dad told me never to be greedy with resources. this should be enough if we wanna make like ... a raft or something, " he answered, which was then followed by a significant silence. fearing that what he said might not be enough, he then flexed his arm with a smile, his muscles rippling and sparkling where the seawater touched him. " i also work out? i think that also helps with that whole ... super-strong thing. "
at the next question, he couldn't help but tilt his head as he thought. honestly, at first, he thought the question was a little bit silly. pellar's town was his home! it was where he grew up and went to school. all his friends were there, and he didn't really know any other home besides that. why would he not want to go home? but he didn't say any of that, to prevent offending them. " i don't even know where i came from. pellar's town is the only home i know. "
distracting himself from the question, joseph then began working on the timber, removing the branches and roots that still clung to the log. " and if all the places 'at home' are like this island, then i don't think i wanna stay here. it looks lonely. don't you wanna come back? "
HENRY CAVILL as NAPOLEON SOLO THE MAN FROM UNCLE ‧ 2015
Finding Joseph felt like a rare gift from the universe. Sam was never one to believe in luck, but being stranded in an unknown realm with the fragments of memories and still finding his best creation? He'll give an offering to Lady Luck for that.
They've wandered this market, trying to find any useful debris. There hasn't been much so Sam's allowed himself this time to take in Joseph with fresh unclouded eyes.
The only thing that could distract him would be finding an abandoned fortune teller's stall. And there, some cards scattered or laid out. It's not his own deck (probably back in Pellar's), but he can tell this isn't complete deck anymore.
He looks up and sees Joseph brandishing a mallet. He smiles.
"That looks sturdy. I'm sure it'll be very useful in your hands."
He looks back down at the remains of the deck. He'll have to settle for reading bones he gathers for now.
"Nothing useful for me yet. I was never much for physical fights. What else is there?"
He walks over, placing a hand on Joseph's hips as he steps around. He's been finding any excuse to touch the young man he can. He made this body after all. It's his right.
joseph could only giggle at the compliment, as he continued to brandish the mallet around, acting out battle poses and fighting styles with very little regard for his safety. but hey, he might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, and sometimes he makes really bad decisions, but he was trained in handling hammers! he was quite good at it, if you would believe his dad. when he was done playing, he finally walked close to where the other man was, and his eyes lit up at the sight of the cards.
" ooooh! i know how that works. there was a girl in the market who showed me. let's try it! " he said. he put his hammer down on the table, and then remembered what the girl had told him: to take a deep breath, clear his mind, and then take three cards when he was ready. the deep breath part was always easy for him, though the mind-clearing did take a bit of effort with all the thoughts in his head. but after a moment, he opened his eyes ... and took three cards.
the seven of swords. the magician in reverse. the moon.
with a tilt of his head, he looked at the cards for a long moment. usually, this was the part where the girl would read him his cards, when the mystery deepened for joseph, keeping him hooked and clinging to every word she would say. this time, though? he only looked back at sam with a shrug, as if just remembering he didn't know how to read them. " what do they mean, do you think? can you read them? "
joseph didn't even react when the man touched his side, too distracted now with cards and mallets and weapons. " hmmm. i'm sure we can find something that will fit you. do you remember what you were back in pellar's town? "
“ no one that wasn't in pellar's town, it seems. ” there was still hope. he heard rumblings from matai earlier in the day that their own island was right across the waters. that meant that some people that were previously in their town were originally from this one. how odd did things work. lisandro, who was such a fan of water, didn't seem to be that lucky to have been born here. yet, he had visited it time and time again in his travels. yes, he knew tirulia well. still, he tucked his hook behind his back and held that wrist with his hand.
“ we called it tirulia in the past, i hope that still holds true. ” he turned from looking at the water to looking at their sheriff. a prince of sorts? he didn't get the story quite yet, but he did know him well from around the town. “ you would hazard well. i've come across these waters before and know the lands as well as any map could draw it. ” a step closer and a deep breathe in. captain hook inhaled the salty air and finally felt like he was at home again. “ are you looking for a guide around the waters or in the town? ” different things they were.
" tirulia ... it sounds so familiar but i ... can't remember much of it, " florian said, biting his lip as he looked down at his feet, thinking of anything that might help him remember this island. the memories were still fractured in his mind, but a few basic facts managed to surface. he knew it was an island kingdom, once governed by a humble royal bloodline and populated by an even humbler citizenry. yet, there was a massive, glaring blind spot in his recollection—something vital that kept slipping through: something about the royal family and the sea, or perhaps something that lived under it?
he shook his head, a quiet grunt of frustration escaping him. even though he knew now what the island was called, it only raised just as many questions as answers. he tried to look into another house, sighing when he saw nothing except a still mess ... a heartbreaking sight of little remnants that showed the house was at least lived in. there was life here before.
“ that's good. i suppose i should expect nothing less from a veteran fisherman. ” he said, finally approaching the other man. " did you use to live here? do you know of the royals that rule this land? "
he rubbed the back of his neck, his shoulders slumping under an invisible weight. " i just need to figure out where the hell we are, what happened to everyone, and how to find a path back home. honestly, this day's been a little too much already. "
"i feel like we should know a lot of things we don't." leopold's voice carried quietly across the room, answering florian from where he'd settled beneath the little shelter they'd pieced together from old nets and weathered sailcloth found in and around the boathouse. it wasn't much, but it'd do until they could make sense of where they'd ended up. the huntsman had gone to scout the surrounding area and, truth be told, leopold wouldn't have wanted anyone else doing it. he loved florian with every ounce of his being, but if there was one man he'd trust with both their lives, it was ulric. after all, nobody was quite as capable as the huntsman, especially when it came to surviving the unknown.
florian.
his prince.
even now, the thought alone felt almost impossible. all this time he'd been drawn to him without ever understanding why. pellar town's brave sheriff had felt familiar from the very beginning, as though some forgotten part of his heart had recognized him long before his mind ever could. now, at last, everything made sense. the way his heart had always threatened to beat right out of his chest whenever florian came near. the strange ache that settled within him whenever they had to part ways. the way a single smile had always been enough to chase away even his darkest thoughts. he found himself smiling now just thinking about it.
they may have called him the fairest in all the land, but to leopold, no sight had ever been fairer than florian.
"perhaps we should consider visiting the castle," he suggested after a quiet moment. "surely someone there can tell us where we are." once they had answers, they could work out a plan to get home. ...home. the word alone gave him pause. was home pellar town? was it kehl? somehow, neither answer felt wrong anymore. perhaps home wasn't a place at all, but the people beside him.
pushing himself to his feet, leopold crossed the room until he stood beside florian in the doorway. for a brief moment he simply looked at him, still trying to convince himself this was real, before his hand found the prince's side and slid around to rest against his back, drawing himself into a hug he'd needed far more than he'd realized. he lingered there without shame, his forehead resting lightly against florian's shoulder as he allowed himself a single, quiet breath. "...who would even do this to us?" the question came muffled against the fabric of the sheriff's shirt, more to himself than anyone else. after a moment, his fingers curled ever so slightly against the other's back. "...do you think grimhilde is back?"
saying that florian accepted the hug was an understatement; his body instantly melted into the embrace, recognizing the warmth as if it were the only sanctuary it had ever known. even though the memories of his other life and his life as the sheriff still fought each other, that single hug seemed to break through all of it like a beacon to him—to his heart and his soul—keeping him anchored.
with a sigh, his hands found where leo's were joined together and held him there. he could still remember the days when he would second-guess this action, when he was afraid to even look leo in the eyes when they saw each other through the glass of the animal shelter. now, not only could he savor the feeling of his body against his back, entirely comforted by the realization that this didn't just feel permitted; it felt written into the stars. it was a cosmic truth that not even a curse could warp.
it almost made him want to just stay here, as if they were not on an island neither of them know.
he looked up at the castle on the cliff, nodding at the suggestion to visit it. " yeah, maybe we should. maybe it could stir up some memories, " he said, but he didn't move from his spot. if anything, his grip on leo’s hands tightened. he shifted his weight, pulling and guiding leo around until his lover was tucked against his side. then florian slid his arm across leo's back, pulling him flush against his hip so he could press a lingering kiss into his hair. when he spoke again, a tiny mischievous grin formed on his lips. " or you know ... we can stay here. make it a little vacation. "
he was silent for a moment again at the question, as a slight tingle of fear ran through him. a grim reality check. if they were here and together, with their huntsman also around, there was a possibility that the evil king was around as well. “ i don't know, my love. but if he is here and alive like us, i promise i will keep us safe. i will make sure he won't separate us ever again, okay? ”
LOCATION : THE TREMAINE HOUSEHOLD.
" you're spoiling me, " joseph said, feigning resistance, but the smile on his face and the way he was scarfing down the food betrayed his words, not caring much about the woodchips and sweat still clinging to his skin. his old man would usually lecture him that he shouldn't accept rewards before the job was done ... but he's not around to scold him today. besides, when a man as striking as ashton offered you a warm, flaky, fruit filled croissant alongside a steaming mug of hot chocolate, who was he to refuse a generous offer? you just accept.
" i don't know how you can make these things at the crack of dawn ... or, you know, be functional this early in the morning, " he said with a mouthful of pastry and jam, his brows furrowing a little as he recalled his own morning routine. if left to his own devices, and without his father literally pulling him off his shoulders, he would still be asleep well into the afternoon. his journey to being a functional and self sustaining adult is definitely a work in progress.
taking a very self indulgent gulp of the hot chocolate, and he couldn't help but moan at the warmth. " this is good fuckin' chocolate. almost making me forget i'm here for a job. "

LOCATION : FLORIAN'S APARTMENT.
there was still evidence of sleep in the corners of florian's eyes when he opened the door. he opened it a little too fast, to be honest, because the streak of the morning sun made him groan. it was totally not like him, who was usually a morning person. but in the last few days, he had been drowning himself in both work and things to keep himself busy. last time, it was to research the history of their town more through what few pieces of literature they had surviving. for what reason? he didn't really know. part of him simply woke up with the deep need to know, to doubt what he knew about the town that he lived in, to question which aspect of its history was true. this wasn't usually something he would partake in, but he knew his brain would not shut up unless he got to the bottom of this.
when his eyes finally adjusted to the light, florian finally managed to get a closer look at the man at his door, who was currently holding quite a hefty parcel for him. he could only sigh when realization finally set in. " vincent. i didn't mean to disturb you with ... this, " he said, as he gingerly took the package into his hands. it was just perfect to hide behind, as it also dawned on him that he had greeted him wearing nothing but his boxers. he hoped the sun was also bright enough to hide the blush on his cheeks. " thanks. i wasn't expecting it to come here this early. and i wasn't expecting you to be working this early. have you already had breakfast? or coffee? "

LOCATION : PELLAR'S TOWN BOOKSTORE.
" did i already say that i hate termites? " joseph said, for the fifth time since he had gotten there thirty minutes ago, as he carried the rotting and eaten-out bookshelf to the backlot behind the bookstore, which now stood as a graveyard for the other shelves that came before. it was the third shelf-- and hopefully the last-- because he really couldn't take another sight of a good piece of furniture being thrown out like this. he might not be the smartest and sharpest tool in the box, but it didn't take a genius to see the worth of good craftsmanship. these shelves had been in this bookstore since the day it opened! and the design on each groove and trim of them was obviously made with much care and love. it was sad to see them all fall for something as stupid as wood-eating bugs.
there were some books that got ruined too, which were all piled and boxed far away from the ones that survived the termite attack. but he didn't even dare try pricing those. that wasn't really his expertise, to be honest; he was never much of a reader, unless the book had less words and more colorful pictures. he would rather delegate that to the person helping him out. “ really should have done more to prevent this. ” he says, as he watched the shelf almost disintegrate the moment he dropped it on the pile. it took him a moment and glance at them to realize what he said, which made him raise his hands quickly. " not saying that it's your fault! i'm just, you know ... saying. talking words, " he said, letting that last word falter and disappear into the noise of the morning.
then he offered his best smile, as he pulled out a drafting pencil and a worn measuring tape from his utility belt. " well, we can't promise it will be the same, but we will do our best to build new ones. make sure to make 'em a lot tougher this time. have you heard anything back from the mayor about the funding for this? "
