I'm getting on the pinned post wagon for the third or fourth time.

I'm Clayton but some people call me Clay. Either is fine.

I'm 34 and married with a gaggle of kids.

I'm a high school educator. I love it.

I have a PhD in American literature with a focus on Southern studies.

Don't let the education fool you I promise you I'm a regular dumbass like everyone else.

My favorite books are: Gone With the Wind, Anna Karenina, the brothers Karamazov, War and Peace, and Crime and Punishment.

I speak English, Russian, French, Hungarian, Mandarin Chinese, Modern Standard Arabic, Italian, Ukrainian, Polish, and Serbian. I can read a few other languages.

Also I can play trumpet lol.

A thing people will do to you when you're schizophrenic and stable is, they will mention embarrassing shit you did when you were in psychosis as if you're going to look back on it and laugh with them

and y'know OK yes sometimes looking back on a delusion or whatever is actually kind of funny and cathartic for some people

but when the nondisabled friend initiates this, it feels like, "hey do you remember that time you were more terrified and hopeless than you've ever been before or since in your whole life? haha pretty crazy!"

It’s actually really insulting to say schizo-spec people are just “able to see a higher plane” or are “just spiritually gifted” when they’re suffering from a well documented disorder and we know why the brain does what it does.

In the brain of a schizophrenic person, the part of the brain that sorts important and not important is not functioning the way it should. That’s literally it. They see everything as a sign of importance. That’s the disorder at its root (there’s other symptoms but it all relates to the way the brain processes all of reality)

There’s a reason autism used to be called little schizo.

Stop white supremacy manic pixie dream girling every disorder you see (autistic = star seed bs I’m /staring/ at you)

[note this doesn’t mean people with these disorders can’t also be spiritual or gifted in some way. I’m talking about making the generalization that schizophrenia = psychic powers instead of a disorder]

Just got out of the psych ward.

Again.

This time was exceptionally fun because I was FLORIDLY psychotic and I was talking nonstop to everyone on the floor including the nurses and the occupational therapist and chaplain that I was I was related to the Romanovs that made it out of Russia before all the shit hit the fan. I was literally talking about Alexi Romanov nonstop. Yet the doctor said I was stable enough to go out back into the world. What a move.
