Russiagate: The Big Lie that just wonāt die
Itās true that everybody has a right to his or her opinion, and itās also true that not all opinions have equal weight. Ā An informed opinion, based on a large volume of hard evidence, research and rational analysis is in a different category from an opinion founded on ignorance, lack of evidence and fallacious reasoning. Ā A person might voice the opinion that Norway is an enemy of the U.S. and is out to get us, or that Joseph McCarthy was noble and scrupulous when he conducted his Communist witch hunts, but that opinion wouldnāt be fact based or really worth anything. Ā
An opinion based on falsehood and irrational thought would be even worse than useless. Ā It would do harm by promoting lies that might deceive other people. Ā
An example of an unfounded, irrational opinion still making the rounds today is the untrue idea (one that has now been irrefutably debunked) that Russia is an enemy or the U.S. and that Russia āhackedā our 2016 election.Ā Some people are still using McCarthyism claiming anyone who knows Russiagate is a now-disproved hoax is somehow in cahoots with the Russians.Ā This is the silliest, most irrational, most dishonest phase Iāve seen this country go through in recent years.
Earlier I saw a post claiming Robert Mueller has an unstained reputation.Ā Where have people who believe this been over the past few years?Ā Among most of us on the left, Mueller is best known for lying us into war with Iraq by falsely testifying Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.Ā Ā
People so ill-informed as to believe that Russia is now an enemy state and that Mueller has a sterling reputation need to read and learn more before they speak, reveal their ignorance and, worse, mislead other people.
Today the only people who believe the Russiagate story are either (1) Politicians or corporate media flacks who stand to gain by lying to the pubic or (2) Average citizens, including rank and file Democrats, who have been successfully fooled by the politiciansā lies.Ā Those people who research extensively and donāt reflexively believe what theyāre told by establishment propagandists know what is true.Ā Hereās a link on Russiaās not being an enemy of the U.S. (x), and hereās another on that subject:Ā Ā (x)Ā Ā
