In the midst of this Kyoto Tower event, here are some canon BKDK things to warm us up for the final stretch:
Kacchan has voluntarily cried in front of Deku and only Deku on at least 3 separate occasions.
In fact, Deku is the only person Kacchan ever vents to and expresses his feelings to. He obviously isnât open about it, but he trusts Deku.
To go hand-in-hand with that, Kacchan was the first person Deku thought of to tell his secret to. Like, over his own mother. Kacchan always seems to be the first person he thinks about when it comes to the most important things.
Reminder: After Deku saved Kacchan from the sludge monster, Kacchan did not âbullyâ him ever again. (He even said âyou canât work with your friends?â when he was sitting next to Deku during the meetup of students that were about to take the first phase of the exams to get into UA. He referred to Deku as his friend, even though he was mad that he âcouldnât crush himâ in the competition lol.) So they were on civil terms until Kacchan discovered that Deku had a quirk. He was angry and offended that Deku never told him. Then he thought Deku was keeping it secret from him for foul reasons, like to make a fool out of him and stuff. False accusations out of anger aside, Kacchan just felt excluded from something so important to Dekuâs life.
Anyway, the first opening theme song features them in cherry blossoms that bloom as they grow older, which shows that their relationship will only improve over time đž It also included jagged lines between them to symbolize that they will smooth out their rough patches in the future and bloom into something beautiful. All great Hero Duos start somewhere, and some of them have rough beginnings.Â
Splitting hairs a bit here, but the second ending theme song has them together too! Even on the beach! Kacchan is running after Deku and itâs kinda cute.
The third opening theme song features characters self-reflecting, but Kacchan is only thinkinâ about Deku. ;)Â
The third ending theme song canonly features lyrics that reflect Dekuâs feelings toward Kacchan. Includes lines like âWhen I look into your eyes, I can run tooâ and âAfter all, youâre my heroâ and these lines are sung when Kacchan and Deku look at each other and work together. đ§Ąđ
The fourth opening theme song features Deku thinking about Bakugou and itâs snowing - which symbolizes great loss of someone you love and is precious to you because you couldnât save them, etc. Itâs a romantic symbolization too!Â
DEKU WOULD RATHER LOSE HIS ARMS THAN LET DANGER HARM KACCHAN??? That boy had broken bones and multiple injuries and he ran through a forest of top notch enemies SCREAMING and FIGHTING till the bitter end because he wanted to save Kacchan. He showed his protective side and CRIED IN ABSOLUTE AGONY when Kacchan was abducted.
Also hi he took a 3rd degree burn to the arm from Dabi in his attempts to save Kacchan. BOIâÂ
Deku also broke a giant chunk of rules to go rescue Kacchan from All For One. He was the one who thought of the plan that ultimately saved Kacchan too - and he succeeded because he knows Kacchan best.
The fourth ending theme song has Kacchan and Deku standing next to each other and stargazing while the song is literally screaming âI love youâ over and over again.
They understand each other without having to use any words. Deku has understood Bakugou when the other students would have no idea what heâs doing lol for example, when Mineta didnât know why Bakugou was being rude to the other class, Deku said âThis is Kacchan in his neutral modeâ and then proceeded to think âKacchan is backing himself into a cornerâ. No one else wouldâve known that. Then there was the time when Ochaco had to fight Bakugou in the tournament. Iida was like âHe might go on easy on a girl right?â and Deku instantly said âNope.â Sorry but Deku just knows Kacchan and everyone else is just guessing.Â
The other way around exists too. Kacchan understands Deku way more than people give him credit for. For example, when Deku was crying over All Might losing One For All, Kacchan was the ONLY ONE IN THAT ENTIRE CROWD OF CHEERING PEOPLE looking at Deku with such a SOFT, understanding, yet concerned expression. He knew something was very wrong just by looking at Deku cry. He knows Dekuâs cries.Â
Deku greatly admires Kacchan (ever since they were kids - even before his quirk manifested) and even though All Might helps motivate him, Kacchan is ultimately his reason to ACT. Deku jumped into action when it came to Kacchanâs safety more than once! He has also canonly told Kacchan âYou are even closer to me than All Mightâ. Also, if he hadnât risked his life to save Kacchan from the sludge monster, All Might probably wouldnât have seen Dekuâs potential and chosen him when he did!Â
No matter who talks trash about Kacchan, Deku always defends him. He even corrected Ochaco when she referred to Kacchan as his bully. Deku has always referred to Kacchan as his childhood friend, and so has Hori.Â
Deku has physically stared at Kacchan in admiration and awe multiple times.Â
Their compatibility won against All Might. Together, they make up for what the other half lacks. They complete each other and even All Might encourages their potential. They are two sides of the same coin. Win and Rescue.
Half of the fifth opening theme song is literally about Kacchan and Deku coming together with All Might as their stitching.Â
Kacchan VS Deku Part 2, nuff said. âYour sheer amazingness was so brilliant to me, it was blinding!â âThe only one that can receive Kacchanâs feelings IS ME!âÂ
They have a song from the official BNHA soundtrack titled âKatsuki and Izukuâ so thatâs like 2 entire canon songs specifically for the Wonder Duo.
Lots of official art and Hori sketches feature Kacchan and Deku together or together with All Might. â€ïž Yeah, theyâre the main characters, but the story is also about them growing together as a unit and becoming the ultimate team!
Deku has been studying Kacchan and his abilities ever since they were kids. He has memorized his movements, battle tactics, and behavior. Thatâs pretty damn good dedication to his bae.Â
On top of that, Deku uses Kacchan as reference for his own hero work. On more than one occasion, he has imitated Kacchan for the sake of his own self improvement and his moves and fighting style, etc. This method got him first place in the tournament race, not to mention it got Deku, Froppy, and Mineta out of the shipwreck situation during the time the League of Villains first attacked UA. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery!
Kacchan was only mad about that because he felt left behind by Deku again.
Deku calls him âKacchanâ for fuckâs sake and Kacchan allows it and not once has he ever fought against it or thought it was annoying in the canon storyline. Bonus: He literally doesnât let anyone else call him that because he hates when others do that. Itâs only exclusive to Deku.Â
Kacchan essentially gave Deku his hero name. Ochaco sorta helped Deku decide to pick it, but the overall name was chosen by and given to Deku from Kacchan. Thatâs kind of a big deal. (Kacchan will probably make his nickname into his hero name as well, because of his connection with Deku.)
Literally every character wants them to resolve their differences and just be together. Ochaco has encouraged Bakugou to be friends with Deku again, Kirishima has asked Bakugou if heâs friends with Deku and he didnât deny it, Aizawa said Kacchan and Dekuâs presence uplifts the spirits of the class, and All Might has called them âproper rivalsâ and so on. They all support it.
Kacchan wouldnât come to the pool until Kirishima told him that Deku was there.
Kacchan didnât have an interest to team up with anyone in the second tournament event until Kirishima mentioned going after Dekuâs headband.Â
Kacchan saved Deku from the Warp Dude âą without hesitation.
Kacchan protected Deku during their fight with All Might. He took a blow (multiple blows actually) from All Might without batting an eye. Thatâs more than taking a bullet for someone bro. (These two tend to take a lot of hits for each other.)
Speaking of that episode, can we take note of the fact that Deku was more insulted by the fact that his âIMAGE OF VICTORYâ (yes that is what he canonly calls Bakugou!!!!!!) was thinking about quitting over the fact that Kacchan tried to insult him and push him away during that battle???
Can we also talk about how Deku nearly had a broken back and his ass STILL went back to save Kacchan from All Might?? He held Bakugou in his armsâ Deku always hurls himself into action when it comes to being Kacchanâs hero!Â
Also, Kacchan pinned Deku to the wall. And, uh, pulled him in really fucking close - like almost lips to lips - before he threw him to the escape gate lmao
Okay, Iâm being silly now, but you get my point.
They are always concerned with each otherâs progress to the point where itâs second nature to them. They compare their successes and failures with one anotherâs. Deku and Kacchan are so fixated on each other that itâs impossible to ignore that elephant in the room (even with writing certain fanfiction! That is, if youâre sticking to canon of course.) Their lives deeply integrate with one anotherâs and no amount of antis can change that.
