hgyuna:
Yuna couldn’t help the concern that still presented itself in her features. She worried about Kesa, and in her defense, she had every right to.
Of course, her reasoning was purely based on assumptions, nothing that she could confirm or deny without actually bringing it up to Kesa, but her eyes had seen what they saw, and the thought was always in her mind when she saw the other.
As difficult as it was to let things go, she knew this was for the best. She didn’t want Kesa pushing her away, it hurt her more to think that he could, because he truly was like a little brother to her and she loved him the way a big sister loved her little brother.
“Ah…well, I’ll make sure they’re good before I do…so you don’t react to it again,” she smiled a little, ruffling his hair. “Do you want me to go? You seem a little tired Kesa, and you should enjoy what time you have off. If you need anything though, I can get it for you.”
it felt for a moment like he was holding his breath, just waiting to see if she’d drop it or if she was going to push further. if her concern would go deeper or leave it at that. it worried him really, not wanting her to burden herself with worrying about him anyway. but he sighed softly when she let it go.
sometimes it was just better not to know what was really going on in one’s life, and this was one of those times in kesa’s opinion.
“that sounds like a good plan, but well hopefully it was just a rare occurrence when every other one i’ve used has been okay.“ kesa shrugged slightly, still offer the soft smile at her. he shouldn’t be surprised his tiredness was noted either, he just had to hope she didn’t think anymore of it. “i am a little.. just been busy, after all. we can always meet up again in a few days, i’ll have some time off still then. i’m okay though, all filled up after all and you always do more than enough for me.“
ghosts of the past || taehwan & kesa
hgtaehwan:
“oh…” embarrassment sinks in when taehwan gets a proper glance at the stranger’s face and realizes he is not quite the man he thought he was. it was not just embarrassment, though, most of it was disappointment. he didn’t know just how much he had missed a familiar until the possibility had been snatched away from him. it’s not like taehwan was completely alone here, he had made a couple of friends after moving here. but it wasn’t quite the same. taehwan sometimes needed a reminder of who he was before the fame and success. and for a really long time, damien had been the one to ground him.
it shouldn’t have been this much of a surprise, really, this much of shock to stand eye to eye with damien’s brother instead. taehwan knew damien had a brother. but for some reason taehwan had assumed he would have disappeared as well when damien had. if anything, it leaves him with even more questions. anger even as he once again wonders why he had left without an explanation.
“yeah, we uh- we used to work together. a long time ago. but then he disappeared… i haven’t heard of him since.” taehwan’s fingernails dig into the palms of his hands, trying not to sound too resentful at the painful memory. tries not to sound too hopeful when the next question tumbles from his lip: “how is he? did he move here with you?”
kesa might not be the best at reading people, but he could still do it in his own way. this time, he could catch the way the words was formed, and the look on the others face. he could tell that in some way.. it seemed like disappointment, or maybe something of that sort.. it made him wonder why really, a curiosity bubbling up as he continued to stand and wait to hear what the male had to say.
he honestly didn’t know many people that knew damien after all either, but now hearing the other finally speak and tell him how they knew each other and the relation, it had kesa frown a little softly. he’d knew his brothers leaving had been abrupt, and he couldn’t really say he was too surprised that he just disappeared out of some lives, and from the looks of it the male in front of him was one of those. it made him sad, actually.
“oh.. uh-- ah, some things happened in his life. i’m more than sure he never meant to suddenly cut contact with you, i’m sorry.“ he told the other softly, trying in his own way to even reassure the other just a little that his brother wouldn’t have meant it. damien wasn’t the type to do that, after all, and the situation they’d all been forced into had just been too difficult to bare. he was sure his brother was stressed about it, or well, he knew he was. “he’s good. our contact is.. limited, but he’s doing really well. he’s in france now.. i’m sure if you managed to get back in contact with him he’d like to hear from you? or well.. i could tell him..“ the younger boy rambled off softly. “he did. my family moved here together, but there were complications that led to my father and brother having to move back home. i don’t see him much-- which oh.. i’m kesa, by the way. sorry.“

hgminho:
⤑ evening , 110 chungho street , @hgkesa
the streets of hwanggeum are already empty, minho notes, waiting for the gates ahead of him to open. it’s unsurprising, really. the community isn’t known for its night life. and the elderly folks definitely wouldn’t stand for it to grow any bigger than eclipse and solace. minho supposes he wouldn’t be particularly fond of the community being overrun by rowdy kids either.
someone buzzes him through and the automatic gates slide open. minho cheekily waves to the security camera before driving onto the property. he’s been over to kesa’s plenty of times before, and each and every time he’s had the horror pleasure of encountering amelia ryang. she wasn’t outright evil (read: to him), but minho wasn’t dumb enough to think it was anything other than his name and status keeping her from being just that. so as he parks in his usual spot and hops out, he makes sure to grab the bouquet his maid bought earlier from the backseat. over time, minho’s picked up a habit of sucking up to kesa’s mother whenever he has the chance. not because he needs the woman to like him, but rather being in her good graces gives him guaranteed access to his friend. and that’s something he has to ensure.
bouquet of lilies in hand, minho casually makes his way towards the front door. he’s about to press the doorbell when a woman screeches from inside, yelling about something that minho can’t quite decipher. his finger, centimeters from the bell, pauses. the yelling continues, and minho can already tell it’s amelia. his jaw clenches. of course it is. before he can stop himself, the bell’s being pressed and he’s stepping back from the door, plastering a smile on his face. minho can’t count the number of times being an actor has saved his ass when it comes to faking niceties, but this is definitely another one of those times.
it was normal in the ryang household by now. with most of the staff gone for their break and far from the house, it was normal to hear the shouts echoing from wall to wall. only one voice though screaming over and over, different insults he’d heard in many forms before, all hitting home each time. all hitting their target without a miss.
from a range of tamer words about his appearance and his eating habits, all the way up to how useless a son he was, or how horrible and unappealing he was to look at. how unsightly it was to have a boy like him. revolting. disgusting. appealing. repulsive-- what a godawful monster he was. the words hit, each and everyone of them, and well.. those were the tame ones. she said an awful lot more, degrading and judging him as she went about picking out all of his insecurities and problems with himself. pinching at his arms, his neck, his cheeks-- pointing out every fatal flaw that was wrong with him, and oh how he was eating too much. how could he expect to be pretty? how could anyone ever think he’s be as beautiful as her with a face like his?
kesa was in the middle of getting lost in his own head, trying to fade far from it as he fought against tears that were already sliding down his face-- when the bell went. the woman was in the middle of pinching his cheek again just a little too hard with her claws for nails, before she let go and eyed him. she waved him away as soon as she could though, and kesa would deny saying he ran to his room. but he did. running up and throwing himself on his bed to try and block out the voices screaming at him, be that her voice or his own screeching at him loud and clear. all the while downstairs his mother threw compliments at kesa’s best friend, inviting him in and offering all sorts of lovely assortments of tea and refreshments for him if he’d like. adoring the flowers that were brought and how kind and considerate the young man could be. the perfect picture of a mother and of course, loving and adored actress. she wore a mask well, just like everyone else.

lifeline.
hgjaesung:
handing the stranger his number was a long shot. it had been done quickly and in passing. and for all jae knew the little piece of paper had been trashed as soon as possible, together with the pair’s used napkins and leftover food. at the end of the day, jae was nothing more but a familiar set of features to the kid. and even that was wishful thinking. the community was gated, sure, restricted to the rich and powerful, but it was growing at a rapid speed. most of the residents, and jae more than anyone, liked to keep to themselves, faces easily getting lost in the crowd.
that didn’t stop jae from trying, though. there had been something about his initial interaction with the pair, and especially the mother, that had set off a certain sense of recognition inside of him. the woman, who jae assumed to be the kid’s mother, was controlling. didn’t give her son the chance to look at the menu before ordering for them both. it’s alarming< to be fair, and so jae spent the rest of the night patrolling the few feet that were between his table and the bathroom, a crumpled up piece of paper resting in the pocket of his pants ready to be handed out together with a hushed whisper.
still, jae wouldn’t blame the kid if he did just that, discard the hand he was trying to reach out. not able to confidently say he wouldn’t have done exactly that if someone had done, or had tried doing, the same for him years ago. jae wonders how different his own life could have looked, the stranger’s distressed facial features flashing through his mind as he wipes down the table they had sat at a couple of weeks ago. thoughts cut off by his phone ringing in his back pocket, an unknown number reading on the display.
“hello?” jae’s voice sounds unsure, brows further crawling as the faint sounds of laughter and music echo through the phone. “who is this?”
it was an unexpected occurence that day to suddenly be handed a piece of paper with a simple number, and a message from the giver of the paper to call if he ever needed help. it was a simple act of kindness, and one that.. well kesa had never expected to receive. at that moment it had made the smaller male wonder if the other knew about him somehow, or had overhead them, or just simple understood him, maybe. still, he’d shoved the paper in his pocket and saved it for a rainy day instead.
that day was today, and today he didn’t expect to hear the voice on the other end letting him know that the call hadn’t simply just rung out, but instead been picked up.
“k-kesa..“ he mumbled softly, voice a little cracked and broken but hopefully loud enough to actually convey itself. “you.. y-you gave me your number. the cafe.“ he got softer, quieter, towards the end as if the fear of what he was doing would suddenly bring his mother barging in. she was drunk though, and from what he knew she wouldn’t even have noticed him skittering off anyway. no one would.

hgjisung:
keeping your body in top shape became a silent requirement when you’re an idol. prior to becoming an idol, he always visited the gym regardless, so it wasn’t any problem for him. today was one of those days when he needed a distraction though, and with the dance practice room back at his company being locked at this time, he headed for the gym. killing two birds with a single stone, one could say.
maybe he got himself a little too distracted, because when he hit the showers he forgot his clothes in his locker. he had no choice but to make a run for it in his boxers. the gym should be cleared out at this time, it was pretty late into the night and jisung heard no sound from the other showers. he seemed to be alone, at least.
but that wasn’t the case.
it was when he had already put on his pants and shut his locker that he realised he wasn’t alone, and that a pair of eyes had been on him the entire time. jisung took in a deep breath, trying to calm himself as he felt a state of panic settle in. he couldn’t hide the ugly scars and bruises that plagued his body now, the other had seen most of it - a secret he had told almost no one.
“…hey.” he started out as calmly as he could, although his voice wavered. “forget what you saw, this is nothing. just fell.” he picked up his shirt that he didn’t even realise he had dropped, hastily putting it on. a blatant lie that anyone could figure out, but jisung had ran out of options and he couldn’t exactly think straight at the moment. he could only hope this stranger took his words without a question.
jisung hoped the other didn’t recognise who he was either, because he didn’t need a scandal when he had finally reached his peak as an idol.
— @hgkesa !
kesa spent more time than you’d expect at the gym. more time than he ever thought he would himself, honestly. but everyone he’d spoken to in the industry had said that working out was a good way to lose weight, so why not do it if they believed it to? it was a lot of work, and kesa refused to go anytime during the day when there was a risk of others being around. but he still did it, even if his body got tired far too quickly and it usually led to the male feeling far too achy in his bones the next day too.
that being said, coming so late usually meant that when he getting changed and cleaning himself up there wasn’t going to be anyone around. or well, so he thought.
he couldn’t help the way his eyes drifted over to the other that was with him. the way gentle eyes took in the fight of the other and his expression turned from neautral into a softer, gentler, frown. confusion setting in. a part of his brain supplied that maybe he’d hurt himself working out, or maybe there had been an accident. but the look in the others eyes and the way the voice wavered as it spoke told him that was highly likely not the case.
“i..“ kesa couldn’t form words for a moment, fingers beginning to fiddle weakly with his shirt. the words that were a clear excuse on kesa’s ears reminded him far too much of his mothers cover up of his own injuries a few years ago now. “are you alright?“ he asked instead softly. “i’m not-- i-i’m not going to tell anyone anything.“ and he tried to convey the truth in that over too, because kesa definitely wasn’t one to go and blab to others.. but he did worry.

hgyuna:
Yuna examined his face, concern still washed all over her features. “A moisturizer?” she repeated the words, brows knitted together as she tried to recall something that caused a reaction like this.
“Who sent it to you?” she asked, concerned that maybe an anti-fan had sent him something with the intent to harm him. “Did you need a new moisturizer? I thought the one you used before worked well…but I guess I’m not in your skin to know for sure…” The redness didn’t look serious, perhaps from just flushed skin from being rubbed too hard, and the red eyes as a result of it getting in his eyes.
With a sigh, she let her hands drop. “I’ll bring you some samples to try for new moisturizer next time, hopefully it’ll react better…just be careful from now on, alright? We don’t want anything happening to you.”
kesa nodded in response to her, doing his best at conveying that yes, it was just a moisturiser, and no he hadn’t just thrown half his guts up into the toilet leaving him a teary stupid and ugly look mess. definitely not that. but for once he was glad h was as good a blood actor as his mother was. years of faking something he wasn’t led to that, after all. and especially so with yuna, he supposed.
“a company we’re on the pr list for, can’t remember which but we don’t take stuff we haven’t already pre-approved.“ he shrugged softly, and it wasn’t exactly a lie at least. not all of it, anyway. well actually, he was pretty sure his mother would go out her way to give him something he was allergic to, it wouldn’t be surprising to him. “ah, it did but i was running out and i figured giving a new one a fair shot was worth it, ya know?“
he sighed himself quietly when she eventually dropped it too, glad that he wasn’t being questioned further on it because god knows he didn’t need that right now. not when he still felt as if he was about to drop and his throat felt like it had been through a shredder. god, he shouldn’t have fucking did it-- “if you want to, i don’t mind. and i will, i just wasn’t thinking.”
回
回 = patching a wound.
kesa sighed softly as he let jisung wipe and patch up his knee from where he’d fallen and grazed it. wasn’t his most.. graceful moment. falling on a treadmill wasn’t really the most fun thing, and he wished he could blame it on something stupid rather than pure exhaustion. “thank you..” he whispered softly as the other finished putting plaster over where he’d been hurt, and he could see a few bruises forming around different areas too. “you didn’t have to do that.. i was just being stupid.”

hgyuna:
Yuna led herself up to his room, and although with anyone else this would have been awkward, it was different with Kesa. It was like her own room, her own home, her own brother.
She entered the room and sat on the bed, her fingers drumming against the bed sheets as she glanced around the room, noticing not much had changed since the last time she was here. It was almost as though he never actually was here, which made sense, given how busy he was as a model.
A part of Yuna wanted to snoop, curious to get a better look into Kesa’s mind but the more rational side of her knew that he was open with her about everything and besides, she only wanted to snoop because she was bored.
Eventually, Kesa made it to his room and the smile that was on her face turned into a frown when she noticed his red eyes and cheeks. “Kesa?” she said, surprised, because she could only imagine this face was a result of bad news.
She walked closer to him, cupping his cheeks and feeling them slightly warmer than usual. “What’s wrong? What happened? Why do you look like this?”
letting yuna into his room so easily wasn’t that difficult for him. there wasn’t exactly anything there to hide, honestly, and he trusted that she wasn’t actually going to try and look to hard as well on top of that. but his room was barely his room, not when he spent a lot longer out of it-- be that at another’s house when he really needed the escape - specifically minho for that one - or because he was out working instead ; he was just rarely there.
now coming back into that room though, he was very aware that there wouldn’t be any hiding of how bad his face looked and how telling it was. but the good part, or maybe the sad part in another’s eyes, was that kesa was far more prepared than you’d think to handle it.
“ah.. is it really that bad?“ he pouted gently, sighing and letting out what could pass as a whine from between his lips. he kept his voice a little softer though, trying to give it rest from how sore it was. he’d taken some water, but it wouldn’t just ease it straight away. “i used a new moisturiser i was sent because my face felt a little dry, but i don’t think it’s agreed with my skin. i washed it off but now i’m all puffy and swollen, right? it didn’t look that bad in the bathroom light.“
hgbomin:
upon seeing the stranger’s surprise — nay, shock — at his interruption, bomin felt his sensibilities shoot back into his system. he withheld the urge to facepalm, the tray he was balancing precariously on both hands taking priority. bomin set it down on the table he’d intended to occupy, and blurted out, “i’m so sorry! i didn’t mean to pry.” making an effort to look anywhere else but at the other man’s sketchbook, he managed a sheepish smile. he scratched the back of his head. “i know it’s not much of an excuse, but i’ve just been sleep-deprived and i guess i forgot my manners just then.”
a beat of awkward silence. “ah, are you a foreigner?” bomin ventured into his enquiry with some hesitance, not wanting to further disturb the other man. his curiosity had been piqued by the stranger’s slip-of-the-tongue earlier, a clear indication that korean was not his first language.
later kesa would probably say he’d been overreacting in his panic, but in this moment his only thought was to hide what he’d been doing, and well eventually try and calm his mind because.. well he just wasn’t expecting the company or comment. he held onto the sketchpad a little tighter though, because shaking his head softly at the other. “i-it’s fine-- i’m sorry for reacting like that.” he mumbled softly, not wanting the other to feel bad honestly when he hadn’t really meant to react so quickly. “i understand. it’s really alright.” he understood the sleep deprivation anyway.
the model blinked a little at the question though, for a moment ready to shake his head a little before realising that would be an inaccurate response. “sort of? i.. i grew up in france and moved here almost ten years ago-- i’ve always known korean.. so yes, but not. i guess..” he frowned a little, rubbing at the back of his neck. the slip up into french was really just sudden panic driven. it happened a lot more than he meant.
hgsheila:
“nothing wrong with that.” she gave him a shrug, looked down at where she’d now shifted her belongings. she supposed she was a better worker when she could also focus on more than just one thing at a time. “distractions are good though, don’t you think? you can’t just work, work, work, your brain will fry itself up there.” someone had once told her, this was what made her such a good fit for being a social figure. sheila knew she was nothing more than just the projections of many people’s dreams and hopes to one day end up doing the things she shared with them, but putting up something she was for sale, well it paid for her eventual escape, “ah so you’re matching siblings, that is so cute. it must be fun to have that. i can’t quite do any matching with mines because they’re literally all boys.” well men now, but back to the screen of her laptop, “so, what were you doodling before i interrupted?”
kesa thought about it a little, but he did supposed she was right. distractions were nice sometimes. they were good for a lot of different things. “some people do like to do that though. maybe it just depends on the type of person.. but i see where you’re coming from, anyway.” he liked sheila’s thoughts on it though, and he supposed he wished he could adopt them too. kesa didn’t get breaks when he worked, it was just a constant with no off switch, but he supposed he’d enjoy distractions if he could have them. they’d be helpful instead of the constant stream of work. “it is. we don’t see each other much though,” if at all, “so we aren’t really matching anymore. ah, i’m sure you could find a way if you really wanted to though.” he laughed softly at the thought though. “huh? oh. nothing really. just helping my mother with some designs.”
fed [yuna&kesa]
hgyuna:
“Then it sounds like you and I need to go ice skating, huh?” Yuna smiled. Of course, it was easier said than done. Sure, Yuna had her projects she was working on, but no one was really waiting on her. Kesa, by far, was more busy than she was.
“Whenever you can make time. No rush, because there’s always a rink around for us to enjoy,” she said, showing that it wasn’t a big deal if they didn’t end up skating with a bright smile on her face. She wanted Kesa to always feel relaxed around her, comfortable. She wanted him to feel like he was home and safe, because that’s all Yuna wanted for him.
“Oh, I know we can’t, but I’m sure we want to too! Someone will always agree and someone will always disagree,” Yuna laughed a little, shaking her head.
Once the kitchen was all cleaned up, Yuna was about to speak but she noticed an odd look on his face, but before she could question it or ask if he was alright, he spoke, directing her to his room. “Oh, okay, yeah, let me know if you need my help,” she said, smiling a little and giving his arm a squeeze before heading towards the direction of his bedroom.
kesa agreed with her quickly, head nodding softly in response though his thoughts were definitely elsewhere. “we’ll find time-- i’ll let you know when my schedule clears up a little.” or more so, he’d check with his mother and knowing that it was yuna he was going with, she might give him even a little time.
he kept the smile on his face then though as he got ready to head out, “i shouldn’t take long.” he told her then, smile widening a little at the squeeze to his arm before he was heading off on his own way to one of the bigger bathrooms in the house that wasn’t close to his room. he couldn’t risk her overhearing for one, and it would just be more comfortable.. if that was even a possibility.
hgseohee:
every place is better than home. every place where she does have to face her parents or think of her future. that’s why she’s in no rush to leave, that’s why she wishes to stay for as long as she can. perhaps seohee should actually go, there are things that need to be taken care of and materials to go over, but will any of her academic achievements matter in the end? is there a point in investing so much time and effort in something that shall not bring her any sweet delights? she’s doomed and destined to obey by the family rules, that’s why she’s the perfect kim child. that’s why she’s so beloved. but she’s never wished for it. the love nor the attention. so with a cup of freshly brewed and hot black coffee, she makes her way toward one of the empty tables, only to almost spill her drink on an innocent customer. thank god it’s only a few drops. her hand, however, isn’t so lucky, but she only bites her tongue and begins to smile. “oh my… i’m so sorry! i almost ruined your work. please forgive me. my shaky hands are to be blamed! it happens to me from time to time! please accept my deepest apologies.”
kesa barely notices the impending accident, not until it happens anyway and he’s looking up to see the female as she almost spills the drink everywhere. his attention isn’t on the apology though or the situation that could’ve just unfolded badly, but more so on her hands as he frowned a little with worry. he knew how hot freshly made coffee was after all. “are you alright?” he asked softly, “you hand, i mean. you should run it under some cold water--” he frowned a little more, shaking his head. “it’s alright, nothing happened so it’s okay, really. we all have clumsy moments anyway.”

hgyuna:
Yuna laughed and pulled Kesa close, wrapping him in a tight embrace.”Good, because I can’t imagine a life without this beautiful, smiling face in it,” she said, swaying a little side to side before finally letting him go.
“Ah…” Yuna frowned a little, agreeing with Kesa’s comment. “Honestly? I think I’m the same. But you know what? While it’s still…relatively cold, I’d like to go ice skating again. It’s been a few years, but I always enjoyed it. Maybe with a nice cup of hot chocolate following it, or a nice, warm cider. What do you think?”
“The sad part is you’re not wrong!” Yuna laughed. “And lets be honest, that goes for any job in any field, people are just trying to pay the bills and some go to some pretty extreme and odd lengths to get the bills paid, huh?”
“Oh, yeah, let me help with that,” Yuna said, packing up the food she had brought and putting them into the fridge. “I hope it tasted good and you filled yourself up…don’t go to bed hungry or you’ll be in big trouble, mister.” A joke, of course. She knew Kesa took care of himself and there had never been a cause for concern, except for the scar.
“You don’t believe me? Come on, I don’t even ask that often! But I really won’t bring it up again, I know it can be annoying.”
he smiled softly at the hug, wrapping his own arms around her and humming in return. his mind practically blanked the words though as he hugged her back just as tight. times like these really reminded him how different he an yuna were, but how grateful he was to have around. it was just always a confusing time for him he supposed, especially when despite some small part of his mind understanding that yuna was sincere in her compliments, the larger and somehow most rational part of his brain at this moment told him it was a lie. it always was.
“ice skating? the last time i went was a few years ago too,“ he nodded a little, allowing himself to be interested in that idea because well it would be fun. so long as he didn’t fall, that would just hurt. the other point of it though was that he’d have to find enough time off work and.. that wouldn’t be easy. “i think it’d be fun.“
kesa laughed with her then, unable to disagree when he supposed everyone in any field could be that way. “in this society can we blame them though?” he replied softly, thinking about it a little more.
when she started helping him, he smiled softly at her. but the joke had a little more of his forced laugh surfacing, grinning slightly to try and ease himself. it didn’t help too much though when he was starting to feel that.. ache in his stomach. the itch in his throat-- the feeling rising up and making him feel almost dizzy. feeling full but not in a good way. “you know me-- never going to bed hungry. always full-- it tasted really good though.” he nodded, finishing quickly with the good.
“it’s not annoying-- and ah.. i’m gonna run to the bathroom and call my mum to see if she needs me to do anything for her, okay? but i’ll meet you in my room?“ he got out quickly, offering his softer and gentle smile over even though he was quickly making his way out the room regardless of his answer. he just really couldn’t stomach this right now.
