Summary: Lan Zhan thankfully cuts him off right there, his ears flushing a deeper shade of red. “No balloons. I have a work function I must attend and I need a plus one. My brother will be attending and I would like to make it very clear to him that I am not interested in being set-up with my female coworkers.” “So you’re looking for someone to make it really obvious that you’re gay? Scare them off with how super-queer they are?” Wei Ying’s tone is light, but he can’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment., He’d gotten his hopes up too quickly — what did he think? That a guy like this would want a relationship with him? He mentally runs through his Grindr pics and cringes internally. He was picked because of his weird gay undercut and crop top and embarrasing tattoos. You don’t go looking for relationships on Grindr, Wei Ying reminds himself irritably. My comments: Wei Ying getting recruited as Lan Zhan's plus one to a work function on Grindr. Absolutely delightful with a sprinkle of angst - loved it. Excerpt: “Are you going to break up with Mianmian when she gets the job?” Lan Zhan blinks slowly, not totally understanding what Jin Zixuan is saying. Zixuan is drunk, so this is not unexpected, although the subject matter is. Jin Zixuan clearly seems to be looking for an answer, though, so Lan Zhan will respond. “Break up?” Lan Zhan asks. Jin Zixuan makes a vague, all-encompassing gesture. “Yeah, you guys are like. Y’know.” He says, waving his hands. Lan Zhan does not know. His face must make this very obvious because Jin Zixuan continues to stare at him, eyes widening. “Dating?” he finishes, hopefully. Lan Zhan feels vaguely like he has just been dunked in a pool of cold water, which is not an unfamiliar feeling. “I am not dating Mianmian.” Lan Zhan says slowly, enunciating clearly. Jin Zixuan still looks somewhat concerned. “Uh, maybe you should check with her about that? Because I’m pretty sure everyone thinks you’re dating,” he responds. Lan Zhan feels the tips of his ears flush. He is not dating Mianmian, of that he is certain.
