Kick Out The Jams!
Amazing review of our last four singles on Kick Out The Jams (Spain) by the esteemed Oscar Garcia.
For those non-native speakers, Google Translate butchers it like this:
Hidden Volume Records I can not hide my admiration for this label. The reasons are many starting reunion with an old friend like Scott, former bassist of the Hate Bombs (Florida), band during the 90's was responsible for keeping alive the garage sound, and which I bought each of their work in the different labels that were publishing their discrete discography. Mr Sugiuchi has not lost that spirit over the years and for a relatively short driving this small label that already has eleven references in their offices, some of them already out of catalog because of their small runs and secondly by the way focus each release, that remind me of my favorite label of all time and I fear Scott also loves and has as a reference, we could talk about other than Estrus Records, and the most important reason, leaving the first visual impact it is what lies between the grooves on each disc. Then realize the latest releases of Hidden Volume.
The last four references of this label just arrived in my garage and are already turning on my record player, starting Quitty and the Don'ts, band coming from NY and colleague of other favorite bands of this blog like Electric Mess and Above . This is her second single, the first was a super limited edition that I fear will never end in my hands, is part of the Factory Series collection where already left a single Kaics the Ar recommended. Side A begins with "Running out of time" where Matt Clarke (Above) hits you in the pit of my stomach doing the four strings of his bass vibrate, the sounds of the Kinks and the Hollies come together in a theme loaded bright guitars and tambourines nerve. The B side contains another issue to worship this band, if you love Nerve Optic or Nashville Rambles you'll go crazy for this group when you hear "(She's Gonna) Break your heart" pure 60s sound in the XXI century, just over four minutes of pop magic in all its glory.
The NY give way to The Unlikely to lash base from Pennsylvania fantastic beat. The trio starts with "Bad Vibrations" ... there is Dave finishing spray the spleen harmless little left between my guts attacked with low diabolical stuck in a role tailor-made guitars Kevin seconded creating melodies with magnificent choirs a subject full of echoes of the Beatles and the Who. And again a healthy envy rots me to discover new bands on the label, in the face b guitars shelled classic rock and roll with a nod to Johnny Kid and Link Wray at the "Giving you a key," another album that I fear pasture seekers will be seven inches and I can not resist returning to pinchármelo vein.
Fresh from the factory comes the single of The Whiskey Daredevils to cover that disturbs me, I put it on the plate and lechesssssssssss !! !!, guitars are burning without heating and voice begins to mumble "Do not talk to Connie "I look very familiar .... and the album credits! siiii! I meet another old friend of this fanzine when the paper was the only way to capture what a server was concerned musically and there we bumped into Greg Miller of my longed Cowslingers, accompanied by Leo inseparable who also kicked a few scenes with him and now being escorted by two other locos have been wound to these whiskey Daredevils: punk and country, beer and whiskey, cigars and women, snakeskin boots embroidered with pink shirts are fused to perfection in the two subjects of this single, issues off more heat than hell itself seething, with titles like "Please stop hittin Connie" that will infuriate the whole parish rocker strewn planet.
And to close this block I encounter with another band during the 90's adored, from New Jersey Wojciechowski brothers who delivered two new tracks where graze the sky with two pop songs with case is that the influences of the mod sounds still beating the veteran heart of this trio, the ability to make incredible songs remains intact and the feeling that transmit me is the same as stoked on me when I first poked her second single "time Tricks" for the first time over 20 years ago . Since then each of their albums has become part of my vinyl collection and even visit them in an edition of Purple Weekend nearly cost me in his day job, but other stories, The Insomniacs leave another great album for my friend Scott, just for "Today's the way" was worth waiting all these years to hear these three have left most of his legacy in Estrus again and that since his last album released for Screaming Apple in 2011 we had not heard from them. While "Mr Yesterday" sounds with guitars spitting buzzzzzzzz the speakers I start out his discography shelves and prepare myself eagerly to give me the pleasure of making a mental journey based memories. (O & MKOTJ-2015)
Two songs from this Philly-based bunch (on a fairly new label that’s releasing a ton of cool singles) and I, for one, hope to hear a full-length soon. The two songs in question have the three things you need: hooks, power and energy. “Bad Vibrations” kicks it into high gear from the get go...
Ok, I’ll admit it – I have a soft spot for Baltimore. Maybe it’s because I was born there, next to the glue factory, in the shadow of I-95. Or possibly it’s all of the raucous, drunken fun I’ve had down there over the years visiting friends and playing shows. It could just be my undying love...

2014 Wrap-a-Rama!
Well, this didn’t turn out exactly like I planned. Okay, that’s somewhat misleading. I didn’t actually plan anything. I just kind of did it. I think that’s how I put out 4 singles at basically the same time. I’m not sure what I was thinking. But hey, I think it worked out. And for that I'm incredibly thankful. Hidden Volume has given me the opportunity to let the world know about bands I love. I’ve met so many amazing people from all over the world and hearing how much they dig what we’re doing has been it’s own reward. Excuse me, I think I got something in my eye. FIRST: To everyone who bought records and supported the label, the biggest THANKS goes out to you. We literally couldn't have done it without you. SECOND: Thank you to the insanely cool bands who took a chance with us: The Ar-Kaics, The Delusionaires, The Improbables, The Stents, The Torments, The BellTowers, Sick Thoughts, Quitty & The Don'ts, The Whiskey Daredevils and The Insomniacs! You music continues to inspired me or at least make me jump around the room like an idiot. THIRD: We couldn't have done it without the artistic talents of Carl Nielson, X10, Greg Reinel, Brandon Pierce Peck, Jen D, Mary Garito, Drew Owen and Nolen Strals. Your thoroughly sick skills blow me away. FOURTH: The support team here, there and everywhere...Furnace MFG (Ali and Kelly!), Stoughton Printing (my main man Rob Maushund!), Dan Rapp, Cassie Fick, Busy Beaver Buttons, Stickermule, Steady Print Co., IndigoInk, Master Commando and Peabody Press. You all make me look GOOD. FIFTH: The incredibly important people and believers all over the world who carry our records. I'm sure I'm going to forget a few but here goes: Carrot Top Distribution, Get Hip, Dionysus Records, Screaming Apple, Sound Flat, Kool Kat Musik, Dead Beat Records, Groovie Records, Lost in Tyme, Goner, Florida's Dying, Park Avenue CDs, Rock and Roll Heaven, Atomic Books, The Continental/Double Crown Records, Varluch Records, Windian Records, NAT Records, 13 O'Clock Records and Kenrock Records. Keep the wax spinning! SIXTH: Radio, Blogs and people who just CARE. Andy Turner WMSE Zero Hour Radio, WFMU (Joe, Bill, Debbie, Mike Sin), Jake Noose Zorch Radio, Ronnie Dark, Radiolux Frankystein, What Wave Dave, Jenni Leopard Print Lounge/WORT, WMBR Late Risers Club, Burt Kohler/Sly Vinyl, Ink in Stereo, WRUR Whole Lotta Shakin' Radio Show, Kristin Garageland, WMFO/The Desperate Hour, Joe Xombiewoof, Travis at Some Weird Sin (COOG Radio), Jay Hinman/Dynamite Hemorrhage, Sound Stalker UK, Evan Minsker/Shake Appeal, Bananas Magazine, Oscar/Kick Out the Jams Blog, Lenny Helsing/Shindig Magazine, Rock Hardi Fanzine (France), Jeremy Zombie, Francisco/Rock Around The Blog, Timothy Gassen/The Knights of Fuzz and Jake Starr of Fandango Recs (& exceedingly tight pants) for the love. And big shout outs to Richard, Vikki and Glynis of Fringe Factory Radio for the guidance and support, Scott Rex of 53Third and Third for the amazing features, Anna & Tony of One Chord Progression, Tom at Dead Beat for the advice, Chris X of Reptilian for the inspiration, Jeremy Grites (the Idea Man!), Jsin Dismal Swami, my boys in The Stents for always being there and my amazing family for putting up with this hobby gone awry. FINALLY: BIG, BIG UPS to Ken Chiodini for putting in ridiculous hours mailing and tracking down packages from HiVo South, giving me GREAT advice, picking our own records in his Best of 2014 list (that's LOVE) and saying things like "Hell yes you should put out a record by The Ar-Kaics." This could never happen without you, good sir. Looking forward to the NOW SOUND of 2015. --Scott
AND NOW A FEW WORDS FROM KEN:
It's been a fascinating year. I became an official employee (April 2014) of the greatest record label on the planet thanks to my dear old friend Scott (the Gooch) Sugiuchi of Hidden Volume Records fame. I had many o' late nights and weekends stuffing, shipping and being used as a creative soundboard for this quality operation and am damn proud to be a part of it!
Hope your New Year is filled with music that makes you wanna shake and shout!

The Whiskey Daredevils "Don't Talk to Connie" OUT NOW!
Two country punk infused tunes from Cleveland's demented roots rockers, The Whiskey Daredevils. The raucous A-side sprung from an overheard conversation at a dive bar in central Ohio and the slow burning flip side has been called "the worst possible song title."—by the band itself. Features two ex-Cowslingers and a guy who sometimes plays in reformed proto-punks Rocket From The Tombs. Heavy on the reverb and twang, pal. First 250 are on GOLD wax and first 50 orders from hiddenvolume.com ship with exclusive Whiskey Daredevils "Don't Talk to Connie" frosty beverage koozie! But that's not all! If you order fromhiddenvolume.com you'll get an exclusive BONUS DOWNLOAD unreleased live cut of "Empty Out the Shake" recorded last year at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, OH. We're that nice. Printed on super heavy board with cover art by the one and only Carl Nielson (BellTowers, Stents "Limbs" covers). Edition of 500.
The Insomniacs "Today's The Way" OUT NOW!
The return of this legendary NJ mod power pop trio. Two sides of their sound are represented with "Today's The Way" bringing the sweet Big Star/Teenage Fanclub-esque pop while "Mr. Yesterday" hits with the garage rock (and tremolo) power they are known for. After tons of records on labels like Estrus and Screaming Apple, they aren't showing any signs of slowing down. First 250 on WHITE vinyl, black inner sleeve. ALSO: First 50 ordering from hiddenvolume.com come with exclusive Insomniacs 1.25" button! Sleeve printed full color on super heavy stock with art by X10. Edition of 500. PLAY LOUD.
