“What are you doing out here all by yourself? It’s dark, don’t you know there’s a killer on the loose?”
"I'm sure I'll be able to hold my own. Besides, I only came outside for a smoke."
"Yeah, yeah." She dug into her coat pocket and pulled out a lighter, tossing it to the boy. She furrowed her brow, rocking forward on her heels to stare at him. "Dude… Y-You got somethin’ poking out of your ear." She slowly outstretched her hand, fingers swiping at his lobe. Her hand quickly retracted to reveal a red business card that she handed to him. On it was labeled: Kat Mars Magic and Co.: Magician Extraordinaire. She rose her brow. “Pretty nifty, huh?”
Tattle watched as she appeared to pull a business card from his ear, laughing once again. "You're good, I'll give you that." He stored the business card in his jacket pocket before quickly lighting up a smoke. "So, should I ask how you became a magician extraordinaire?" Tattle passed the stranger her lighter back and took a drag from his cigarette.
Hannah shurgged, finding it stupid as well.
”Dunno, people pay it for the or somethin’?”
Though her attention was brought to the door opening and the doctor entering. He was someone she had seen before, someone Hannah trusted.
”Hiya, there. Can I have my lil’ cup thingy now?”
Tattle's eyes searched around the room, looking for something interesting. There were posters about birth control, how to have a healthy pregnancy, and HIV tests. The girl sighed, finding all of the topics utterly boring.
She turned her attention to the doctor and Hannah, watching as they talked.
"Why, yes I do!" The girl trotted forward. She lent out her hand, snapping her fingers together. A small flame sprouted from her fingertip only to be blown out by the wind. She was just practicing one of her magic tricks again. She was sincerely thankful that it had worked this time. "Well, I had a light.”
"Well.. shit." Tattle looked at the girl in front of him with a bewildered look on his face before laughing. "Shit. D'you happen t'have an actual lighter, Firestarter?"
”Uh…” Hannah paused, “Yeah, I’m pretty sure it does cost money.”
She shrugged, then took her seat.
”Why do ya’ ask?”
Tattle left the plastic skeleton alone, and returned to the seat.
"What if someone gets really sick, but can't pay? It just doesn't seem very smart.." Her words trailed off.
"Eh, not everything American seems to make sense."
"Well I always thought siblings were cool…. my boyfriend is a twin, and his sister is his and my best friend…."
"Yeah.. okay, she is kind of cool. But she's smarter than me, and she knows it. Which is why she can be such a pain."
--
Tattle shoved on his coat and exited the building, looking around for someone.
"Hey! Y'got a lighter?"
"IT MIGHT NOT WORK THE WAY YOU THINK IT WILL. YOU NEED LUNGS FOR THAT. AND HANDS."
"But...", her words trailed off. Tattle's mind was fogging over, waves of uncertainty rolled over her. "I do have lungs, and hands, and everything else."
”No, no, it ain’t odd. It jus’…I’ve been ta’ the hospital tons a’ times in my life, usually fa’ check-ups and such like that. Some people don’t go ta’ the hospital at all!”
She laughed a bit, looking out the windows at the cars and the buildings.
”Feel free ta’ look at the stuff they get in here, since it’s yer first time afta’ all.”
Tattle shifted around in her seat, trying to get comfortable.
"Doesn't it cost money to go to the hospital?"
She never did understand why it cost money to make sure you got better, but it was probably just because of the money aspect. Tattle stood up and began to look around the small room, picking at things, making a small skeleton dance.
Dilan struggled to keep up with Tattle, flashing her a smile whenever she turned to look at her. “I mean I guess, yea,” Dilan sighed, her legs sore. “I could’ve ended up in fucking Australia or something.” She joked, though she still felt uneasy by the fact that she’s in fucking Arizona by simply walking into her apartment. “This may be an odd question, but what day is it?”
Tattle kept walking as she listened to Dilan talk, slowing down to an easier pace for the injured girl. Luckily, Tattle could see the house already. "Nah, there aren't any odd questions. It's, uh... I think it's Monday." Tattle looked down at her watch, and paused walking. "Well, I know it's 8:24, and it's probably Monday." She laughed to herself, and apologized for not knowing the exact date. Tattle started to walk again, this time making sure Dilan was okay behind her.

“I’ve heard that before.”
The two girls followed the nurse to the scales, measuring Hannahs’ wieght and hieght. As well as wasking her questions along the way, questions such as ‘when was your last period’ and ‘how have you been feeling?’ She answered them as fully as she could. Once in the room, and told the dcotor would be right in, the nurse left the girls to sit.
“So, is this seriously yer’ first time in a hospital?”
Tattle watched silently as Hannah and the nurse talked, sitting down in the chair near the corner of the room.
"I believe so, yeah. My brother was in the emergency room once or twice, but I've never been. Why, is that odd?"
If it was odd, Tattle had no idea. So far in life, she just never had a reason to visit the hospital. No sick relatives, no injuries she couldn't fix herself. The idea of a check-up seemed odd, since she knew herself that all was well with her body.
