An iPad is a very valuable parenting tool. It turns kids off. They just stop. I have seen it being abused by exhausted parents. I’ve also seen it be used resourcefully. A long car trip, and you don’t want your child to fall asleep from boredom and ruin their schedule? Tablet. Need to take you child to your doctor and have them be quiet? Tablet. Really any place that they HAVE to be and you don’t have the ability to control their behavior any other way. Tablets really do turn child off. They stop moving, speaking, etc. It’s like a drug. Something that I see parents abuse.

They give their child a tablet to watch videos for four hours because they need a nap. They give their child videos to keep them quiet during house work. They give their child videos because they do not want to interact with their child. In those situations redirecting children to activities is the best solution.

Every use you just listed a tablet for, it would be better to put a picture book or coloring book in a child's hands. Something that doesn't negatively harm their attention span and create dopamine dependencies.
