We all know this current endless imperialistic war in the Middle East was started based on a lie by George Bush. This isn’t a conspiracy. Everybody knows this. This is public knowledge. And people are still signing up to join the military anyway with this knowledge. They’re going across the world to murder innocent people knowing that these wars started based on lies. So tell me again how I’m supposed to respect these people’s service. They aren’t fighting for you.

I really really don’t think a lot of you understand how horrible killing people is. Every person has their own universe of experiences and thoughts and feelings, just like you, it’s not just you.

I know a lot of people go in knowing the atrocities, but they also know they and their families need to eat, and military work pays enough to feed their families and pay some if not all their bills. It’s unfortunately become the only path many unskilled young persons see for themselves because it’s marketed so heavily on campuses. “Steady paying salary, free college, medical and dental for you and your immediate family” so the cost, that of lives lost past present and future, outweighs the gain, that of the survival of the family unit. And if you miss marks on your PT tests you can kiss all of it goodbye

Basically a system of incentivized murder via basic survival for the individual and their family.

If other avenues to survival or success were readily available to the public (like universal health and dental coverage, free education from childhood through public college, and a guaranteed survivable basic income for students, single parents, and the disabled or elderly) we would see a dramatic decrease in people enrolling into the military. It would also help if we switched from coal and fossil fuels to renewable energy like wind and solar. If we make our country self sustaining we won’t have ways to justify wars with other countries that bring about those innocent’s deaths.

the notion that most people who join the military come from impoverished minority populations & therefore don’t have other options for supporting their families is demonstrably false so everybody needs to stop trotting out this “oh those poor people have no other choice” bullshit. it’s based on assumption & not on fact. the majority of people who join the military are white & from middle- to upper-middle-class backgrounds.

I really want this bottle in my bathroom. I’d place it next to matching decorative soaps and towels as if it seems like it fits, but I’ll actually fill the thing up with ketchup. So when I have guests over and they decide to use the bathroom, they will see this bottle and have a moment of cognitive dissonance, “This [Soap Bottle] in the [Bathroom] is labelled [Ketchup], so surely it must dispense [Soap] instead of [Ketchup] despite the label saying [Ketchup] right?” and then let them have a moment of realization followed by abject horror as they pump viscous ketchup all over their hands instead of soap
