☾. isminthyians: a general history.
— "that which diminishes, brings misery"
it was one thousand and five hundred years ago, during an event known as the conjunction of spheres in which isminthyians, along with many other "unnatural" creatures, were pulled from their home realm and into another. a realm originally belonging to beings such as elves, dwarves, gnomes, and other like beings.
very quickly did the the isminthyians learn of their near invincibility upon this plane and thus between the three ancient tribes that arrived; the tdet, who migrated east, the ammurun who went west, and lastly, the gharasham who remained. a pact was formed, forbidding the slaying of their own kind.
though this land was wholly unfamiliar in nearly all aspects, the isminthyians, who were masters of their home world, set to work immediately to make their newfound home to their liking. they sprouted fortresses such as; tesham mutna, where they would conduct research on humans, as well as cage them like animals to be used as a food source.
their ways were extremely cruel as they cared very little for any existence aside from their own. their research and experiments, in order to understand better how humans tick, would almost always lead to the death of their test subjects. they believed mortality to be an great inconvenience, yet accept no fault as "they did not create the species of human, and thus are not responsible for their excessive frailty".
during their research, isminthyians came to discover that uncaged humans were far happier and produced a better tasting blood than those caged, thus they constructed villages in which they would allow their humans to roam free. the inhabitants of these villages were not unaware of the isminthyians and many of them, provided protection and a better environment, were happy to be useful to their masters. alongside the human flocks were set a number of overseers, humans specially chosen who were both chemically altered and gifted with ceremonial armors, acting on behalf of the isminthyians. they watched over the villages and reported all activity ( such as births, illnesses, etc ) to their masters.
the free range method of humans became the popular option among the isminthyians to the point where nearly all capture methods ceased. trouble would come, however, when one vampire; khagmar, began feeding as he liked. wiping out not only their constructed villages but those belonging entirely to the humans as well. this would lead to humans hiring witchers and sorcerers in order to hunt isminthyians. it is during this time that the isminthyians first heard the word "vampire".
isminthyians can not die by swords or spells, or any other means this new realm possesses. however, humans, proving relentless in their hunt for them, became enough of a nuisance to cause a great majority of isminthyians to abandon all they have created thus far and go further into hiding. khagmar, having been the source of their ruin, was subjected to severe punishment. locked away for hundreds of years inside tesham mutna, where all that remained was the means for his torture. those that believed they could revive the experiments, though they abandoned tesham mutna, did not stray far.
those that departed from tesham mutna set to work researching "vampires", and before long they began to wipe the species out, assuming their place. as vampires were found most often to be solitary creatures, the gharasham then began to spread themselves thinly across the land. this proved to be less of a risk should another situation similar to khagmar arise.
this all, however, took place very long ago...
