Marathon (2026) has reawakened my juvenile love for multiplayer PvP games something that is haven’t felt since the days of Titanfall 3 and early R6.
All Classes (Shells) are unique and fit into the sandbox with a myriad of different ways that are highlighted by the excellent weapon balancing and overall synergy with the design of the maps.
Said maps are sprawling and complex making every run unique and risky as danger could be lurking around every corner. Underground tunnels, watchtowers, research outposts and various stations are a breeding for the various hostile patrolling them (other Runners included). However, while the maps are sprawling they are highly dense and populated as they are deliberately small(ish) in size allowing their colours and overall design of the game to shine through.
Goddamn the art style and visual design of the game is a masterclass. I want to put it into a bottle and drink it. Contrasting colours, Neon colour wave, multiple font styles decorating every part of the UX not only make the game extremely beautiful but also help the player digest information without having an overly busy interface plaguing our eyes every minute.
I always get the one more game itch that I haven’t felt for a game of this genre for a long time. I am really glad that this game has found its place in gaming and that it has nurtured a stable and loyal fan base. Glory to Arachne, skin all runners.
