A lot of House and Wilson’s relationship was the lack of (a blatantly physically romantic) one. They were friends and enemies, roommates and then strangers. The two of them had such extreme highs and lows that it would be difficult to classify their bond as anything concrete. They could not let each other go even if a lot of their connection was at times flawed and severely one-sided. I think this reflects most human, adult relationships. There are a lot of things we keep from our parents, siblings, and sometimes our dearest friends. So much in an adult friendship goes without saying, especially when you can't talk about it. Especially when "there is this thing that might live in the next person, but I'm not sure so I won't bring it up."

Everything works out in our imagination; there are no flaws, there is no distance and there is no time restraint. There is no sickness, there is no death and there is a cure. Romance has a wonderful way of blurring all of those lines until they become foggy and cloudy like tears that run down cheeks in the still of the night. There is no answer to romantic relationships, which is why I believe House and Wilson demonstrate such a beautiful one. They are two deeply flawed and successful individuals. They are constantly exhibiting the nature of duality where their actions contradict their thoughts and their thoughts contradict their actions. Reading a story or watching a show where everyone gets it right is unrealistic. Their time was up before they knew it, but they never knew it. They lived each day with this push-and-pull relationship until they could no longer. House grew up when Wilson fell ill. House traded in every trick he had to ensure Wilson would not have to do any part of (his situation) alone. Without saying “I love you,” House had it written on the walls, wound into every fiber of the couch, and floating in the cup his hands are wrapped around.
