As an autistic person and having adhd I find this post extremely offensive. Before posting this I did attempt to direct message them but we don’t follow each other. Then I commented on the post trying to determine their motive. I don’t know if they know how offensive it is or understand why it is. But here I’m explaining why.

this is their post on why Itoshi Sae isn't autistic:

This post is offensive because:

1) it poses autistic people head-cannoning fictional characters as neurodivergent and/or specifically adhd or autistic as a genuine problem, which in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t fucking matter. But sharing blatant information about autism that misconstrues and/or leaves out context is a problem.

2) the post uses language that is offensive and further alienates neurodivergent individuals from society. In this post they say that Sae can’t have autism because he has a sense of humor. This indirectly says that autistic people don’t have a sense of humor.

3) stating that Sae can’t have autism because he has a complex relationship with his relative is so offensive. Knowing that autistic people struggle with forming and maintaining close relationships automatically make their relationship with the outside world and in interpersonal relationships complex; so that doesn’t even make any sense.

4) they use Google Gemini which is AI to create this post without using credible sources that are scientifically proven and based on evidence. This whole post seems to me that they hadn’t fully delved into the autism spectrum and how some individuals behavior can contradict some of the “core characteristics”. Which just using core characteristics to claim why a fictional character doesn’t have autism is not an accurate way to support your argument saying that Sae doesn’t have autism.

6) claiming that Sae can’t be autistic because of the stereotypical trait of rigid thinking, flexibility, and social cues is not okay?? Autism is a spectrum. When an individual thinks of an autistic person they’re most likely to think of the most extreme form of autism, someone who’s higher on the spectrum. However, as someone who’s on level 1 I can tell you right now that all of the “evidence” this person has presented negates the existence of the different levels and the spectrum.

EDIT: I incorrectly and ignorantly used the term Aspergers though it is now considered an outdated term. According to J B Barahona-Corrêa and  Carlos N Filipe the term Aspergers is not used anymore because of the fact that it is difficult to discern between ASD and Aspergers.

My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.

Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?

What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?

Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.

Which I think fits really nicely with this advice of making the actual action itself also feel in character

How to see mature content!!

Hello everyone, given what has been happening to me ( @kamitv ) and my fellow writers ( @tonycries & @madamechrissy ) on here lately, I've decided to come on here (my unflagged account, lol) and make a simple tutorial on how to see mature content on your account/dashboard, wtv.

If you are receiving the following message when looking for your favorite writer's blog, works, etc;

The following is what you'll need to do to fix that.

First you need to go to tumblr's website, I'm unsure why but the option simply does not appear anywhere on the app and you must go through the web for this. (This tutorial is given from the perspective of visiting tumblr.com via mobile device) From there on it's pretty simple.

Once here, you'll need to click on the little hamburger up in your top left corner;

Then the following drop down menu will appear and you need to go to your settings! Under settings, click account.

Once there, you’ll simply need to scroll down until you find “Content Labels”. If you’re facing this issue, it will likely have “Show mature content” as off. Turn it on and, along with “Blur mature content” and everything should return to normal for you on both the website and the app.

P.S. IF YOUR ACCOUNT IS REGISTERED UNDER THE AGE OF 18, THIS WILL (obviously) NOT WORK!!! & to my knowledge, tumblr doesn’t allow you to change your bday without reaching out to them, etc.

My understanding of Itoshi Sae <3

This Reddit post got me thinking about his character and why I just love him

Analysis:

Itoshi Sae from a very young age was told that he was a prodigy, that he was great, and better than others. I’m sure that boosted his ego, made him feel validated in his skills and inherently himself; like come on he’s a kid. Kids are very vulnerable to validity. Sae very much wanted validation even if he didn’t say it. When Sae went to Spain, reality smacked him in the face so hard. I think in Spain Sae’s belief that he was a good football player was considerably starting to be proven wrong, that Japan had built up this false sense of “ego” in him. He learned that in the real world he isn’t good, that his skills lack, that this world is cutthroat and won’t wait for you to catch up. Which obviously in current time he has the ego the size of a fucking balloon but that’s because I feel he’s earned it. Starting high school is already difficult in of itself, being in a different country by yourself for high school? That’s really really difficult. And knowing how high schoolers suck he definitely faced racism because he was different. Which is why in Night Snow you hear Rin ask if he lost weight and let me just tell you, that said so much about Sae, that underneath that ego he also feels slightly incompetent. The look Sae has when Rin kicks the ball into the goal for the first time Sae gets this look that says, “oh. my. god.” It’s almost like Rin was built to have an ego for a striker but in Spain Sae realized he didn’t. Rin in the manga talks about wanting to destroy or beat someone no matter the cost even if it ends with him losing his life, and that risking it all or that feeling that we now know is a striker ego, was something Sae didn’t have. Sae may have built this really tough skin in order to protect himself but deep down he wants Rin to get better, hence why he’s a little bitch to Rin because he knows that Rin wants to surpass him, he wants Rin to be what Sae is looking for, because in the end they had made a promise even if it shifted slightly it still included them playing football together. He doesn’t want Rin to go through the faux prodigy confidence bullshit that Japan had ingrained in him only for it to break him down and destroy him like it did to Sae. That’s what really sucks about being a “child prodigy” mistakes are considered embarrassing and in Japanese culture you represent your family, hence why your last name goes first instead of your first. I really do think Sae holds the weight of the world and sometimes wants to stop, and rest, but can’t because he believes he’ll fall behind.

sae’s pride isn’t loud. it’s armor. a fortress of distance, superiority, and emotional detachment. in love, his pride keeps him from loving fully. he’ll crave you, ache for you, need you, but he’ll never say it first. he’ll never beg. because showing need feels like weakness and sae itoshi does not do weakness.

how pride shapes his love:

℘ he hides his emotions behind superiority. he doesn’t get jealous. he gets condescending. he doesn’t say “i miss you.” he says, “took you long enough.” vulnerability is unbearable. he’ll mock you before admitting he’s afraid to lose you. “you’re crying again? hah. you’re so pathetic.” (but he looks away, jaw clenched, heart racing.)

℘ he avoids love unless he’s guaranteed to win. sae doesn’t enter relationships casually. he doesn’t do messy. he doesn’t risk. if there’s even a chance you’ll break his heart? he’d rather keep you at arm’s length forever. “you think i don’t feel anything? i choose not to.”

℘ he struggles with being needed. he’s always been the one others depend on. the genius. the prodigy. so when you fall apart in his arms? it shakes him. he wants to help, but his pride whispers, “don’t get soft. don’t let them see how much you care.”

℘ he’s terrified of not being enough. underneath that icy pride is a quiet, choking fear: what if he gives you his heart and you still leave? what if being sae itoshi… isn’t enough?

when love breaks through his pride:

℘ he becomes possessively soft. not obvious, but subtle. hand on your lower back. texting ‘eat something’ without even saying hello. “don’t be stupid. you can’t function without food.” (it’s how he says i love you.)

℘ he says sorry once and it costs him. but when he does? it’s real. “i’m not good at this. but i don’t want anyone else.”

℘ silent possessiveness. he’ll never announce it, but if someone flirts with you, you’ll feel his hand on your thigh get tighter. his gaze cold, calculating. “leave with me. now.”

℘ he kisses like a man trying to memorize your mouth without ever admitting he’s scared to lose it.

spicy bits:

he worships you in bed, but pretends not to. slow, controlled touches. eye contact that says mine before his lips ever do.

praise kink buried under denial. you call him good. you tell him he feels amazing. he scoffs, rolls his eyes, but his hips buck harder and you know damn well he heard it.

he’ll only beg when he’s falling apart. one hand wrapped around your throat, the other clutching your wrist like it’s the only thing keeping him from drowning. “tell me you’re not going anywhere. lie if you have to.”

℘ bonus scenario: you try to leave after a quiet fight. he doesn’t stop you. just nods, arms crossed, lips tight. but when you come back hours later, he’s sitting on the floor with his back to the door, face in his hands. you say, “sae?” he doesn’t look up. just mutters, “don’t ever walk out like that again. i thought i was better than this. but… i’m not.”

so yes, sae is pride. the coldest sin. the most tragic. because it makes him act like he doesn’t need love. when the truth is, he’s starving for it.
