“THIS is how it should be done! Eggman should take notes from *insert villain here* from learning from their mistakes and then he’ll be a good villain!!!”
What do you think was happening in Forces when he acknowledged his past oversights and even said himself that he was learning from his mistakes?
Regardless of your opinion on the quality of the game and story, it offered what I find some very impressive moments from Eggman. During the events of the story he had successfully taken over 99% of the world and had Sonic locked up for six months. When classic Sonic finally entered the scene, Eggman was already equipped to pull out Egg Dragoon, something that was previously the last thing he had in store during Unleashed!
He was also responsible for Infinite being able to harness the power of the ruby, have the backup for it’s energy and also use the Null Space because Eggman was the one that analyzed and prepared for all of it. Eggman also made sure to have backups for each setback he faced as they came, things that the Resistance could never have expected. Even when they thought they’d won after defeating Infinite, Eggman revealed that the power source was just a decoy and he had incoperated the ruby into his Death Egg robot.
That was just me trying to put some of the key events in Forces into a summary. There were many great examples of his ability in the game, even if they could’ve been presented a little better in terms of writing. But are you really just going to look over that and deny that he can and has learned?
It seems that some people complain about things that are there as if they aren’t at all. It’s as if they’re so desperate to paint him as a bad villain or make another look better that they’ll even purposefully overlook him actually doing the things they say he lacks in.
I also don’t understand why some say that he’s been nothing but a joke for the past few games either. There have been many times where Eggman’s intelligence and evilness has been shown along with his goofy and comedic side has. The balance is a good thing that I enjoy a lot with Eggman in the main games, yet people often to see to only focus on one and ignore the other.
Even in games with the most lighthearted writing, like Colors’ for example, he was still capturing and enslaving an entire alien race to harvest their energy for his theme park and mind control cannon. And of course in Lost World, despite it’s colorful and rather simplistic theme, Eggman still had the plan to betray Sonic for his own gain all along and revealed to him that he didn’t care about the state of the world as long it was still there for him to conquer.
Along wth the way Eggman is often unfairly disliked and mocked just for being a refreshing villain with a comedic side and lack of grim dark edgy design, the overall theme of each game as a whole also seems to play a factor in why people often overlook what danger and impact lies within Eggman’s doing.
People can dislike them and their stories all they want, but Eggman has actually made great accomplishments and learned from his mistakes in the past few games. While I do believe that the good things could have been recognized and appreciated more with further developed writing and focus, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t there at all.
