Upon returning to his abode, Tsukito should find that his apartment is fairly dark; the only source of light is from several batches of lit candles, their wicks softly glowing through the shadows of nightfall. There’s quiet music playing from the radio, and the smell of food permeates the air, mingling pleasantly with the scent of vanilla wax.
The dinner table is set for two, as one might expect. White rice with soy sauce, a few rolls of vegetable sushi, miso soup, and nikujaga — someone was hard at work today! Of course Apollon couldn’t have done this all himself (and the sea shells decorating the tablecloth are obvious clues as to who gave him a hand,) but it was doubtlessly a labor of love all the same. Our splendid co-chef is nowhere to be seen, but the food is still warm, so he can’t have gone far.
An anniversary dinner? Without a doubt. Welcome home, Tsukito!
Having Apollon over so often made the sight of returning to a darkened apartment mildly confusing at first. He was used to every blind in the room being open and the room blazing with light and even a fresh breeze when the weather was normal. That was why he hesitated to step inside when he first opened the door, but he soon found himself drawn in at the sight of the candles sitting around the room.
He approached one, curious about its origin, but the scent of familiar foods caught his attention and drew his eye toward the kitchen. He stared down at the setting once he'd walked to the table, brushing his fingertips against the seashells. His brother had been here, obviously. Was this something they had planned together?
Something in the back of his mind clicked as he stood there a moment more. This setting was definitely reminiscent of one he'd seen mentioned in one of the many magazines he'd perused in the past. A romantic dinner by candlelight was typically reserved for special occasions. Was that why he hadn't seen Apollon as often?
Silently, he scanned the room, but there was no sign of the Greek. He couldn't be far, though, he reasoned. He turned back to the food and let a small smile spread across his face at the sight. Though he wasn't sure he'd like it, the thought and care that had went into it would more than suffice.
