Was looking at a picture from a painting of Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor(then Grand Duke of Tuscany) with his wife and children, and I was looking at the painting when I realized Francis II/I(who was then an Archduke) looked very similar to a painting of his grandson, Napoleon II by Thomas Lawrence
These are the two paintings on top of each other. Itâs basically young Napoleon II but his head is smaller than Francisâ. Found this really weird and kind of cool.
I have been getting interested in Napoleon II and I have seen some conflicting opinions on how he was treated in Austria. I have seen in Aubryâs biography that he suffered abuse from his Austrian family and his tutor and that his grandfather(Franz II/I) hated him and let the abuse happen and thought that his death was the best thing to happen but then I see other sources like Chip Wager write that wasnât true and that his grandfather was upset and that he wasnât treated all that badly. I just need some outside perspective on this and maybe be directed to books or sites that talk about this.
