The Oath of Love, known in my house as the Oafs of Love: a half-way review of sorts.
余生，请多指教 s is a long-awaited adaptation of the novel of the same title which details common-or-garden “boy meets girl” romance, in all its silliness and glory.
The trailer for it was shown as early as spring last year, when the leads won the King and Queen of Weibo night. A year later, the drama itself dropped without any fanfare on not one but two streaming services. Rakuten Viki shows original cut of forty-five to fifty minute episodes, and WeTV streams TV edition episodes about seven minutes shorter than that. While the content is largely the same (there might be micro differences in editing, but this is not the Untamed Special Edition situation), the cuts between episodes themselves differ. As usual, the VIP streaming is a few episodes ahead of the free release. If you want to shill out for just one of the platforms, WeTV, while being an inferior cut with no theme song, is slightly ahead of Viki; and also has an advantage of having insta-subs, while Viki takes a while with their community-sourced subtitles.
As an adaptation, it’s an interesting one, at least judging by what had been translated of the source material, which is the first 54 chapters of the novel. Seemingly, the producers decided to licence the book and then change everything about it. The novel is this sedate, glacial, cozy and almost cryptic in its narrative tale of fated love, written as a diary. The main characters meet, they like each other, the get together, the stay together. That's more or less it.
The drama, while keeping some dialogue from the novel (as in the gif above) is more of a Regency romance story wrapped in layers of contemporary rom-com tropes. There are a hundred misunderstandings per minute. There is an enemies to lovers relationship. There is a conniving romantic rival. There is a scheming BFF. There are no less than three sets of overbearing parents.
There is a child who ships the main couple. There is inherent romance of bandaging a head wound, followed by, in no particular order, by inherent romance of sharing a jacket, headphones and an umbrella. Basically, think of a single trope of the genre and I guarantee that it will be here.
Our heroes are Lin Zhixiao (Yang Zi), a music student who seems to do no course work but is hell bent on being the world’s greatest cellist. One day she bumps into Doctor Gu (Xiao Zhan), and then, due to her father’s illness, she keeps bumping into him again and again. The way he is introduced was best described by @supernovasimplicity as “Mr Darcy vibes”, which was right on the money.
In the B-plot we have Zhixiao’s best friend Sansan (Li Muchen): a foxy, fierce kind of a sidekick; and Gu Wei’s cousin Gu Xiao (Zhao Zilu), who is your typical rich oafish playboy with a heart of gold. The later have a very Stalking For Love kind of courtship, which would have been very yikes, if not for a sparkling chemistry between the actors and Zhao Zilu’s bountiful charisma.
The weirdest thing about this whole show is that, if you look at it on paper, it sounds kind of trashy. The main relationship is built entirely out of misunderstandings, and the secondary one entirely out of red flags. The world of the show, so to speak, has nothing to do with reality. This includes, but not limited to: really weird scheduling and lifestyle of the leads; all but cackling maniacally antagonist; hospital setting which has so little in common with the way hospitals actually operate that counting all the laws it breaks per episode makes a special kind of entertainment.
And yet, for all of that… this show is incredibly charming.
The characters are not always consistently written (love how out girl Zhixiao fluctuates between being a filial child that is a mistress of all housework to not knowing the first thing about basic chores), but they are a joy to watch. You end up rooting for all of those silly humans because they are just so gosh darn adorkable. All the cast members seem to have a lot of fun with the material and bounce off of each other beautifully. For all the overbearing parents tropes, the familial relationships are very well developed. A lot of the scenes have a wonderful detail in writing and directing that makes them feel real, operating largely on subtext. The show is decently shot and snappily paced. it’s saccharine, but not at all indulgent, and not afraid to poke fun at its own romantic notions. The comedic elements of the show are genuinely laugh-out-loud funny. It’s just plain fun to watch.
Is the Oath of Love the best drama known to mankind? Hell no. But it is, ultimately, a moreish, enjoyable, giggle-worthy romp. Sometimes, that’s more than enough.
A.k.a A Story to Read on the Day You’ve Fall in Love is a japanesse drama that make me fall in love again with dorama. It’s a square love story but with good character, no one is antagonist in here no one is tge bad guy/girl.. everyone is just a human! The story isn’t driven by the love story, the love story is just a side dish that very interisting like a small portion dessert which keep poking up.. and its really compliment the main plot! One of the lover candidate is her student but please dont get turn off coz again love story is not the main plot! And I’m as someone that not a fond of student-teacher realationship still think this drama is cute coz they handle the student-teacher relationship very delicately.
I found that Kyoko Fukada aged beautifully! And Ryusei Yokohama just perfect as Yuri Kyohei!! I wish that there would be second season that potray the next journey of Junko Harumi until her wedding day! Coz I could potray so many obstacle and I can’t wait to see how the Oblivious Junko will react! Please.. please.. second season!!
If you are in the mood for crying! Then, I do highly recommend this taiwanesse movie. It’s a remake of K-movies with same title (and I haven’t watch the original) but this remake basically is a success for me. It’s live up to the original premise (many reviewers said so).
Eventhough its sad drama but if they do it well (and they did it very well) then it’s a good movie! Storywise is cliche, but that acting and chemistry is top notch! Kind a predict it would be sad, but I didnt know that its slow burn sad.. the thing that make you cry willingly and when you realized cheeks are wet.
Can we please talk for a moment about how Sana Bakkoush is the link in this show?
Let’s go back to season 1. Noora only joined the girl squad because of Sana, she didn’t want to be part of the bus thing but if Sana was joining, she was joining and that’s how the girl squad was born.
Then also in season 1, Sana was the reason why Eva and P-Chris started talking, she was the one that through Eva’s instragram account followed him and liked his pictures which led to Chris and Eva talking. And THIS led the girl squad to start hanging out with The Penetrators, which was the reason why Vilde and William started talking and then they hooked up.
Also in season 1, Sana was the one that saw P-Chris hooking up with Ingrid, which led Eva to talk to Ingrid and solve their friendship and this conversation led Eva to find out from Iben about Isak being the one who sent the tips about Eva and PChris hooking up, all because Sana saw P-Chris and Ingrid.
Now let’s go to season 2, like I’ve already said, Sana is the reason why the Penetrators and the girl squad started hanging out in the first place which led to Vilde hooking up with William, which led to Noora falling in love with William.
And not only that because let’s all remember that Sana was the once that convinced Noora to give William a chance and to talk to Vilde about it.
Also, thanks to Sana, Jamilla was introduced in season 2, without Sana there wouldn’t be a Jamilla.
Now let’s go to season 3. Isak and Even met at the first Kosegruppa meeting. Now, why was Isak there? Because Sana forced him to go. Even and Isak met thanks to Sana.
And not only that, when Isak needed reassurance about his relationship with Even, Sana came and gave him her epic “hate doesn’t come from religion it comes from fear” speech.
And now let’s go to her season, to season 4. It’s because of Sana that the pepsimaxi were back, she was the one that allowed them to join the girl squad bus (as much as we all hated that).
Then as we all know, Sana was the reason why Noorhelm got back together thanks to the email she sent from Noora’s account. But not only that because when William came back, so did P-Chris making Chriseva happen again.
I mean, she’s even the reason why Emma is back. Jonas invited Emma to Sana’s party on Saturday which led her to talk to the girls and to Eva finding out about Emma and Jonas which led us (through Chris Berg) to find out about Eva and Jonas hooking up.
And we got Jamilla back this season, again thanks to Sana.
And let’s not forget about the biggest reunion this season. The Balloon Squad + Even. The Balloon Squad got introduced because Elias is Sana’s brother which led us to find out that they were Even’s old friends. And you know who was the reason why the Balloon Squad and Even reconnected? Exactly, Sana. First Isak saw Mikael in Sana’s laptop which led him to ask Even about it. And the biggest move, the karaoke party. If Sana hadn’t invited the Balloon Squad to the karaoke party the fight would’ve never happened and that fight, as weird as it sounds, was the first step to Even and Balloon Squad reunion. Also we have to talk about Eva’s birthday. The Balloon Squad was there, why? Because Vilde asked them to come. Why? Because she was having trouble with Magnus. Why? Because the Pepsimaxi girls had made the Vilde instragram account. Why? Because Sana had made the Sara instagram account. And that party, Eva’s party was the moment where Even and the Balloon Squad reconnected and are friends again.
All because of Sana.
So basically?
There wouldn’t be a show without Sana.
She’s the reason this show exists and all I can do is be grateful for that.

I've been marathoning The Vampire Diaries series for this past week, from the pilot of season 1 to season 5 (still working on it though), and it was a really great show there.. Not just because of the OTP (which i have love and annoying with) but the whole vampirism thing is so fantastically describe and really well thought (heads down to the original novel writer L. J. Smith). The first season is a charm, the second is a thrill, the third is a whole new world, the fourth is amazing, and the fifth... Hmm.. Haven't finished that yet, but so far kind a little bit less of excitement there, but hopefully not. So I want to challenge my memory lane and doing some quiz to myself ^^ Talking about TVD is always related to supernatural being, and TVD world we have: 1. Vampire - The Original 2. Werewolf 3. Hybrid 4. Witches - Powerful witches - The traveller - Original Witches Did I miss something on the list of supernatural being in TVD?
Since I’m kindergarten I’ve already watched the elementary Nobita with friends.. with his zero grade all over his test papers, and how his over greed toward doraemon’s bizzare tools made the good tools became a disastrous tool of an event..
And when I was elementary, they still accompany my sunday morning.. even when I was already in high school.
Now, I’m already working for years and it quite strange to see my best tv buddies, Nobita and friends are still in elementary!!!! But the truth I still enjoying their movie.. it’s not that weird at all 😄😂 *and sadly it make me realize how old I am! 😣😢
The truth that I’m already growing up way more than Nobita.. I feel cheated watching the movie.. How come Nobita plays with faith.. while in the first time it was mentioned that Jaiko is his future wife.. and suddenly the movie turns to the quest on making Shizuka chan as his wife!! Shouldn’t the moment when his grand-grandson coming will be interupted also?
He wouldn’t be there offering Doraemon as help if Nobita isn’t married his grand-grandmother??
Ahahahaha.. Maybe, I’m over thinking in watching Doraemon!! Overall it’s a good movie.. I feel young again!!!
