what do you think will happen/want to happen with M&M's pregnancy and impling?

ooo thank you for asking, because i have a lot of thoughts on this!

i assume it will go much differently than i can guess, tbh, but here’s what i expect/think would be cool:

-Family is one of the major themes of the show (and this season specifically), so i’m excited to see how this plays into what we’ve seen so far: non-normative family that is built from the ground up. Millie, Moxxie, Blitz, Loona, and (as of Sinsmas) Stolas operate as a family unit in canon. they involve each other in every aspect of their lives and decisions. so i don’t see this as “M&M’s baby” so much as “IMP’s baby.” My ideal arc is one that focuses on Millie’s feelings and prioritizes her autonomy first, and then focuses on how ALL of them will move forward together. Communal child raising >>

-I think this will cause some strain on M&M’s relationship because they got married fast and never really asked each other Big Questions like this. If Millie is unsure what she wants, i think it will be hard to tell Moxxie because she doesn’t want to handle his anxiety while also trying to face her own feelings. Obviously he’ll be supportive of any choice she makes, but he also has Father Baggage and he tends to worry/overthink things in general, and Millie tends to avoid asking for emotional support from anyone. I feel like Unhappy Campers set up some foreshadowing for this.

-I’ve seen some theories that this will tie into her past relationship with Chaz, and that she may have had an abortion during that relationship. I’d love to see this—or more generally, i’d love to see the show explicitly discuss abortion as a completely normal thing to do, even if it’s just some offhand comments before Millie decides to keep the baby.

-Millie does nottt want to be shoved into a caretaker role, she works a dangerous profession that she loves and wouldn’t want to take a break from (she was already hit in the stomach multiple times during Sinsmas…), and she values her independence just as much as she values her social relationships. I think she’s having a ton of very justified fears about what this could change about her job and her relationship, so everyone is going to have to work together to find solutions that allow her to keep being herself freely. And they’ll be happy to, bc they love her, but she’s not used to having to *ask* for anything. She’s usually very go with the flow. Excited to see her have some hard conversations.

-Would love to see Millie talk more about her family, her history with parentification and the expectations put on her as the eldest daughter. I want to know more about her individual relationships with each of her parents. And i want to hear her talk about what she NEEDS and WANTS from Moxxie (and Blitz bc let’s be real he’s gonna be a part of every step of this) in order to keep child raising from becoming her default job in the way that often happens to women.

-It’s very possible that Moxxie will end up being a stay-at-home dad or something close to that, because it makes the most sense for them. (It’s ALSO possible that IMP changes course entirely and they go into an entirely different business, which would change a lot about the show.)

-Sallie May coming over to help out more!! i want to see her develop a relationship with all of IMP.

-BLITZ AND MOXXIE CONVO. possibly their duet?? I want to see them talk about father/son relationships, how their own shitty fathers have impacted their relationship with each other, and what they both want to do differently.

-Stolas and Millie having a talk about their anxieties about parenting, despite their very different circumstances, would be awesome. Even moreso if it could lead in Stolas and Millie talking about other things, like their own preconceptions about each other based on status/past Harvest Moon Festivals etc.

-Not sure how this would look but would also love to see Millie and Loona have a convo about parent child relationships, bc I just want to see them interact more. And once again, they come from such different life experiences that it would be interesting. I can see Loona being both like “only have this baby if you 100% want them” and also “don’t worry so much, as long as you keep showing up they’ll be okay.”

-Blitz should be obsessed with this baby. I want him decked out in Uncle gear with the baby gleefully hanging off of his horns.

-Honestly not sure how this is gonna change the general status quo of the show bc like… it’s a big deal! The dynamic so far has been very adult-centered, with the only non-adult character being 17, so to suddenly have a baby hanging around will really change that. I trust that there’s a plan in mind for the long-term, but it is a bit hard to visualize right now. However, i will say this: this better be the cutest damn baby ever. If you’re going to put a baby in here, i expect cute baby moments.

Okay those are my thoughts!! What do you think is gonna happen?

mmmm this is good. so good. we have a lot of the same thoughts and honestly I don't think we're that far off even if we're not exactly right.

some of my own thoughts:

I really want to see more of Millie's family, and the parentification "Eldest Daughter Syndrome" thing Millie has going on is so obvious. I would like to see her and Moxxie come and stay with her folks for more than a couple hours, and I want it to be clear even to him when she immediately slots back into that role basically subconsciously when they're there. being a third parent and taking care of everyone. and then exhausted and all "this is why I left". even if she doesn't say it to her family she talks about it with Moxxie

Sallie May might come to work for them a while to take over for her, but even Millie will want to keep working jobs until she physically can't anymore. they will both be on jobs several times because Millie does not want to slow down and she's stubborn about it even though everyone is trying to get her to stop.

Moxxie is 100% not ready to be a father and even though Millie is scared of having a kid in general I have to imagine she is especially scared of having a kid with him because she knows this. Moxxie is gonna break tf down over this. it's gonna be ugly. I wouldn't be surprised if they even split for a while, (but that wouldn't last long). it would be very funny because they would also still be working together at IMP. attempting to Not Talk to each other. constantly catching themselves being sickeningly cute and stopping.

Stolas being the unexpected lifesaver is very important to me

I really don't see IMP changing their business model, though. that would break everyone's heart, especially for Millie. she loves what she does and honestly I think the worst thing they could do for her character is have her give that up for a kid. IMP might take a break for a while or slow down or they might also start doing other kinds of jobs, but I don't think they're leaving their Topside Murder business niche.

I also think it's possible that Moxxie might do a stay at home Dad thing for a while, but I don't necessarily think it's necessary. he'll take a longer break than Millie does when the kid is born but I would prefer if he also gets back to work. I think it'd be incredibly funny if they just have a baby in the office. even funnier if we're doing murders while babywearing, but I would understand if they don't go that route.

I keep going back and forth on whether I want the impling to be a boy or a girl. if it's a boy that'd obviously be hard on Moxxie but I also think a girl would be very hard on Millie. either way one of them is stressing about it. but when the kid is born I really think they'll be like "why did I worry this much it doesn't make a real difference to me"

Imps are extremely communal in their childrearing (which also makes this harder on Millie because her family is in Wrath) and this 100% will be IMP's baby. Stolas is incredibly good with babies. Loona pretends she wants nothing to do with the kid.

and I am so very excited for Uncle Blitzo. he will love this baby more than anything and he will be extremely intent on being their favorite person lmao. they have a babysitter who will drop everything to watch their kid on a dime.

I love absolutely all of this y'all and may I add a couple of thoughts?

-I actually think the true comedic route for handling Moxxie's daddy issues would be to have him have a meltdown that he proceeds to talk himself through rapid-fire over the course of about half a minute (think a Lydia Reira overcoming homophobia in 10 seconds sort of deal), takes a deep breath, and says he's good, he's got this... and Millie, who was really really hoping for a Crashout Buddy™ to be terrified with, is kind of disappointed that he's way too okay with this

-(STOLAS IS HER CRASHOUT BUDDY. THEY ARE CRASHING OUT OVER DIFFERENT THINGS BUT STOLAS IS HER CRASHOUT BUDDY.)

-Related to a lot of what y'all have said, I really look forward to whatever reckoning is coming between Millie and Lin specifically. It's easy to overlook because her relationship with her father seems relatively warm, but Millie and her mom have got a really complicated relationship, and I'm excited to get more context on that. It seems like Lin was the major contributing parent in Millie's parentification, and seeing how that evolves now that Millie is most likely becoming a mother herself. I imagine this is going to dredge up a LOT of issues between them and how they reckon with that is going to be delicious.

-Glad we all agree that Uncle Blitz is going to be #1 Supportive Uncle and he's likely to be more baby crazy about it than the rest of them combined because that is so on brand for him. Relatedly...

-have we considered: IMP. TWINS.
